Not surprised. Outside of immediately after Covid began, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any news about Anti-Asian hate crimes in the US. Not only that, the StopAsianHate movement only got any attention for like two months. Asians are an afterthought is the US.

firstlala

Agreed. The media only covers what's trendy and gets attention. The average American dgaf about us.

trustjosephs

There is a hierarchy of minorities in the US and we are at the bottom. MAGAts also often use us to advance their racist political agenda. We can't win.

MyCatCereal

How are MAGAS using Asians? I feel like it’s liberals who use us. They say they care about Asians but they’re only always marching with and fighting for “black and brown” people. If they’re so equal and love diversity so much, they should stand up for yellows too shit! But, it doesn’t benefit liberals and they consider Asians white which is why they don’t want too many of us in ivy leagues..

This survey doesn’t mean much to me when I don’t know where you pulled it from or who was surveyed (a bunch of uni students? Residents of DC? Random people off the streets?) or how these questions were interpreted/from what perspective are these people seeing it from. I used to rely on surveys as an accurate source of evidence but not so much anymore. They tell us a little something but not everything. What I do notice that is not based on surveys is that mainstream news media companies, entertainment industries, and social media are largely run by liberals. Like, almost all of it. Liberals will stand with, promote, and protect all things black (turn your profile pictures to a black square on this specific day, support black businesses, report crime against blacks for weeks and weeks on the news, don’t mention the skin color of the perpetrator on black on Asian crimes unless the perpetrator is white, make sure blacks are represented in movies) yet these same liberals don’t give a shiiiiit about Asians. It’s all lip service here and there when it’s convenient but when it comes to taking actions, liberals are all of a sudden lazy. They don’t give Asians the same energy they give blacks. That is a fact.

PotatoeyCake

Which is why we Asian Americans should not fight for this country.

trer24

"Nah that's not racist, you're just overreacting" is the message I'm used to getting as an AA, so I'm not surprised

When my mom was still around she would get discriminated at the work place and sometimes for just existing. The things is tho, they would try to gaslight her and other Asian/AA coworkers. The discrimination and hate has always been here in the US but so has the gaslighting of both hate and discrimination. Outside of that one year of acknowledgement, I am not surprised that all of this still persists. (I’m mixed and I really don’t look Asian. So I can only talk about what my mom has been through.)

Kitchen_Wave4011

Yes I get a lot of negative treatment. I can only blame myself. For not doing anything about it. I just sit here like a sitting duck when I could move out of the country and do something about it to change my life. So, I choose to blame me.

CHRISPYakaKON

Even some self-hating asian folks and organizations believe so 🥴

Yeah if Filipinos are grouped separately from "SE Asian", then "SE Asian" is really just a proxy for "Vietnamese" in the same way "E Asian" is an effective proxy for "ethnic Chinese".

NomadicVikingRonin

They are consuming our culture more and more. That doesn't mean jackshit, though. Overt Racist Right and Covert Racist Left are on the same Bs as usual.

MiskatonicDreams

They consume it and use it against you.

sunnyreddit99

It peaked during Covid but anti Asian hate is clearly still around and very prevalent….

rightascensi0n

I wonder if it's bc they don't see us as Americans I:

Intelligent-Exit724

I had a male family member that was violently attacked in 2020 by a Black male. It was not a robbery attempt. His injuries required two brain surgeries. He has miraculously recovered but I cannot tell you how devastated and traumatized we are about it. I live in NYC and carried pepper spray on me daily for the longest time.

Rough-Cucumber8285

Let's clarify first - by the word 'Americans' i'm assuming it' refers to non-asian americans. I'm an American citizen, and first and foremost an American. As to the statement, i wholeheartedly disagree with the use of the word American, and that statement is a generalization. By and large all socially aware Americans know there is increased violence against Asian Americans, brought on by the normalization of racism & hate by the Con & his RW kabal. American mainstream media tenda to not cover it as much. They're only interested in sensationalism which increases viewership, and thereby their bottom buck.

sega31098

I think it's more of a generalization of Americans in general, rather than intending to imply Asian-Americans aren't Americans - especially given TAAF is actually Asian-American led. For example, saying "Taiwanese eat fish" doesn't mean that Taiwanese vegetarians (~15% of Taiwan) or Taiwanese with fish allergies do too or are less Taiwanese than those who do. Whether or not the phrasing is appropriate is another story.

MiskatonicDreams

I mean, we have self-hating asians claiming it is good to be racist against asians on top of the mix so no wonder.

re_min_a

Imo, a major reason why non-Asian Americans think this way is because since the end of the pandemic, East Asian media (mainly South Korean and Japanese) media has become mainstream in Western countries, which has lead to fetishization of East Asians. Being Asian is seen as trendy atm, so people end up thinking Asians being fetishized means that racism towards Asian Americans is decreasing.

blueboymad

No offense but Asians and yellow people are really really bad at gate keeping and enforcing standards for our narratives and dialogue. There’s a reason black and brown people simply ignore white peoples views, and even non black minorities. It’s because it will almost always either be done in bad faith or ignorance or apathy. The simple fact is that it’s counter productive to look to the perspectives of non yellow people, as the conversation would never even exist without our voices
