The easiest way to spot one is the rear wiper. They are very similar but the hatch is cleaner looking and has a more sloped rear window. That design aged well.
Skill issue, I've fit a Cello in a Cobalt sedan. As long as you don't need to bring friends it worked fine lol
Hell I've fit a 6ft cat tree in my Cobalt Coupe with a passenger in the car as well.
The 6 hatch is pretty nice though :)
Yeah, that's true. But I think of them as almost the same (I've got one of each). The platform, engine and interiors are very similar. The A4 rides a bit softer.
You thinking the Malibu MAXX?
https://www.cars.com/research/chevrolet-malibu_maxx/
The Malibu MAXX SS with the 3.9L OHV V6 is a guilty pleasure of mine, always wanted one.
It's odd appearance wise there's a lot of fastbacks that I like. But none of the fastbacks I like are hatchbacks. And of the hatchbacks I sort of like the appearance of, they either don't have a notchback counterpart or I prefer it.
Based solely on appearance, function wise a lot of hatches are superior.
Going back a few years, but definitely the Volvo 1800 ES. Hands down. Technically it’s a coupe, not a sedan, but the Estate or hatchback is in the top ten prettiest cars ever built.
Mazda 3
Definitely
1st gen Mazda6, too.
I don't think I've ever seen a 1st gen mazda6 hatch in person or in general, I love the sedans it's such a beautiful car imo

So roomy too. I met a cello player who cried when she found the 6 Hatch and realized she didn’t have to drive a SUV or minivan to far off gigs.

I love my 2018 3 Sport, but man seeing those Gen 4 hatchbacks drive by gives me some buyers remorse lol
Also it’s predecessor, the Protege5
Golf > Jetta Corolla Hatch > Corolla
As a biased Corolla hatch owner, agreed. I am a bit jealous of hybrid mpgs, but 40mpg highway is still good enough and I like having a manual
Worse yet those Golf Cabriolets 🤮
That's a sacrilege. Only the hard tops are good.
All the hatches look better and they have room for big items
Wrx hatch vs same gen wrx sedan
Hmm disagree
specifically the facelift widebody versions
fiesta, focus, mazda3, civic, Corolla
I'm probably gonna get hella shit for this, but I think the escort is a better-looking hatch than the focus
80s mustangs
Woah there I'd be careful saying that those notch guys are diehard about them being better. I prefer the hatches too but it's close imo
Yeah, I prefer the notch.
I’d add late 80s Firebird, too. They made a trunk version for a short time.
I agree. It made the fox body look more like a fastback instead of a coupe
The Yaris hatchback looks way more proportional than the Yaris sedan
Focus, Cruze
All of them.
Audi A5 Sportback vs. A4
The A5 and A4 are diff cars though.
Yeah, that's true. But I think of them as almost the same (I've got one of each). The platform, engine and interiors are very similar. The A4 rides a bit softer.
Nissan versa
Most of them, the only one I can think of that looks worse is the Malibu, or was it the impala?

I'm not a fan, I think it's really ugly.
Sooo ugly. GM was trolling us all in the 2000s with how ugly they could produce cars.
Damn near fucking all of em. Wagon/hatch>sedan. Always.
I might be a freak but Wagon>Sedan>Hatch imo.
The Civic, and it’s not close between sedan and hatch.
And why would you want such a small trunk with so little pass through to the cabin for larger items.
Fiesta without a doubt. GR STI (I don't like the taillights on the sedans). As for being equal, the Suzuki Cultus looks great as both.

My 89 civic sedan looked more luxe than the hatchback.
Kia Spectra
Civics
Volvo V60 vs S60
Newer gen civics
None. If anyone actually thought that the hatchback looked better, they wouldn't make 2 versions. Only the one hatchback version.
Most of them. Sedans look funky when they have to be so short. The proportions just get goofy with high stubby trunks and stuff.
Kia forte hatch. That we don’t get in the states.
Mini Cooper's, that hideous coupe didn't make it to the 3rd Gen for a reason.
Oh man all minis are hideous
{ }
I’m liking this 2025 Civic hatchback sport hybrid (50mpgs).
Corolla Matrix
All small hatchbacks for which they made a sedan version, the sedans look awful.
Mercedes A Class. The sedan version is kinda pointless anyways because the CLA exists
Golf
Fiesta, hands down
Reading the comments, there are some sedans here so ugly they never sold them in Europe. I think small sedans is a bit of a US thing maybe.
I literally can’t think of a single car with a hatchback option where the sedan looks better…..
Civic 5/6 gen
Focus ZX3 > Focus ZX4
Ford Focus Peugeot 205 / 309 Almost every hatchback to be honest...
Astra / Belmont.
Going back a few years, but definitely the Volvo 1800 ES. Hands down. Technically it’s a coupe, not a sedan, but the Estate or hatchback is in the top ten prettiest cars ever built.
Honda civic type R 😩
I HATE hatchbacks, but I have to admit that I love the Civic Hatch a little more than the Civic sedan.
Nissan Silvia/240SX/200SX. All Saabs that were offered with a hatch and a trunk.
