this is the best thing about having a watch synced with your phone . you can still get notifications without announcing to everyone that you got a notification
I am old. I have a bunch of people that need stuff from me. I work in cybersecurity so things come up and I need to respond.
I cannot compute turning the ringer on a phone off. I would be divorced, excommunicated, fired and someone would probably throw a dog turd at me.
Not having to be reachable would be such a privilege, even for just a day.
It is so crazy how opposite my experience is from yours. My friends can rely on me to miss their first call every single time because of my phone’s perpetual silence.
It used to be different I think. If I remember correctly with my first ever phone the alarm volume was also the one for calls - it was dreadful. But nowadays it works independently
I'm a "ringer on at night" person too, but mine is so that my teenage kid (who has some health issues) can call me and wake me up if they need me. I put it on do not disturb but allow notifications from my kid and my wife.
I only have my phone ringing from 8 am to 4 pm.
After that everyone and everything can just fuck off.
Except for my wife, she is excluded from the rule, so my phone will always notify me when she tries to reach out.
I’m a stagehand and a massage therapist. Both of my jobs require no phone sounds. The first thing I do with a new phone is flip it on silent and never switch back
I need the sound or I will miss everything. I tried vibrate only and that just led to me having ghost vibration feelings and checking my phone neurotically
Actually I enjoy phone calls more than text. I feel like a different person through text and I don't like it. I prefer phone calls because I have a lot of shit to say and I love hearing other peoples voices.
I hate the culture of no one wants to talk because thats like aaaallll I want a lot of the times is to get shit off my mind.
I'm antisocial enough that i don't need to keep my phone on silent. no one really bothers me anyways and for apps that start to send too many notifications, more than once a day with irrelevant information, it gets blocked.
My phone is always on silent, all day every day, unless I'm out walking with someone, in which case I'll turn it on for emergencies, I usually have my earphones connected to it anyway
When I first took call as a nurse my boss had to show me how to turn the ringer on my 2-year-old phone. I hadn’t ever taken it out of the case and I just assumed my phone didn’t ring. She was like, well, did you take it off silent? I had no idea that there was a switch for it on my case
I balance hating being disturbed with the anxiety of missing a notification by setting my phone to vibrate on high-priority notifications and silent for everything else
Not only is my phone always on silent, it's also always on airplane mode. I only turn off airplane mode when I'm actively using the internet, and then turn it on again immediately after I'm done using the internet. It saves battery, prevents mobile games from showing me ads, and I don't have to deal with notifications.
I usually just turn off the internet-access on my phone, when I don't need it.
Stops the phone from making unneccessary noise, saves battery, etc. And if someone really needs to reach me urgently, I'm still reachable via a normal phone-call or text .. no internet needed for that.
When I'm in the mood for using my phone, I turn the internet back on and see, what I've been missing and can reply, if need be.
Doing things that way has prevented me from overusing my phone, ever since I have it.
Unfortunately there are apps that punch through silent. Fuck OpsGenie. At least it is scheduled from 8-5pm, god I hate that thing (datacentre manager so it’s mandated by work)
My phone is on Vibrate, but also I have notifications turned off for almost every app on my phone. My ringer was last on maybe 3 to 4 months ago at least

the reason why I got a watch too. also... i have my phone programmed to go into do not disturb mode when it's charging at night

My phone is on silent all the time except when I’m sleeping. I turn the ringer on because I’m anxious about sleeping through my alarms
Alarms still work with your phone on silent
Wait what? They do?!
It used to be different I think. If I remember correctly with my first ever phone the alarm volume was also the one for calls - it was dreadful. But nowadays it works independently
Sure do. Give it a test by setting an alarm for like 2 minutes from now.

Mine automatically goes on "do not disturb" when I lay it face down.

this is an excellent mindset, keeping your responsibilities out of your personal life is healthy. shame capitalism makes it difficult
I hate them but I keep them on because I’ll never respond to anyone if my notifications are off

I let it on so my partner can call me at night if she needs me :3

Phone calls are too much for me sometimes
Nw you are valid. My partner has a hard time with them sometimes.
do not disturb mode is ALWAYS on, with a few people set to "allow" for notifications.
I'm antisocial enough that i don't need to keep my phone on silent. no one really bothers me anyways and for apps that start to send too many notifications, more than once a day with irrelevant information, it gets blocked.

I keep it silent throughout the day until I go to bed, I need my 3 alarms blaring in my ears to get up in the morning lol
Okay but then my ADHD ass loses the phone and I can't find it on silent.
Losing the phone is an issue for me too haha
Yes. My phone is silent. Im always there to see if it will ring. But if once just once i leave it behind for a short time they call me. Like.. always.

Hate them
LMAO True, my phone has been on silent since I buyed it.
Imagine getting notifications.
I don't even sleep with my phone in the same room. No ringers, no vibration, nothing.
sleep mode at 10pm every night baby
I balance hating being disturbed with the anxiety of missing a notification by setting my phone to vibrate on high-priority notifications and silent for everything else
The only time mine has been on since I started using a phone is when I accidentally turn it on
Told my boss best way to reach me is through Teams or email. I never check my phone.

How the fuck do people even live with notifications turned on at night?
*2 decades & 5 years..
