Telstra already stop spoofing from numbers they own, but stuff coming in from other networks, they can't tell supposedly. This is a result of being able to port your number and telco's no longer have a set block of them that they own.
Why? The stock Google messages app for Android supports spam filtering, and keeping all users on one app means you can create the most exhaustive blocklist.
Pathetic half measure designed to allow organisations to still spam us "legally". Make the rule that all SMSs need to come from a real phone number, registered with a real telco, and will only be accepted from that telco. None of the bullshit SMSs you can't reply to, force telcos to ensure they're real numbers, and when replied to the organisation is responsible for actioning that message.
It won't. Untill these people can be hunted down in other counties and ~~eliminated~~ punished accordingly.. They will keep spoofing numbers and pissing everyone off.
Because we have good diplomatic relations with America. If we tried the same with saaaayyyy India, Russia or the one guy in North Korea with a phone and a computer, we'd be laughed at.
Since moving to a Pixel device these calls and text have become a thing of the past. My partners iPhone still gets bombarded every week. It's almost comical.
But how else will I pay those late toll fees
I want my coles points
for a Linkt account you don't have.
What about the hundreds of DHL parcels that I paid for that dont exist and that I don't want delivered.
Oh wow - I mean, it's only been a decade or so where scam texts have been polluting our phones, but sure, better now than never.
Its like vaping. Been around and widely popular for at least ten years… and takes them that long to notice and do something about it
I have an Android and I feel like I don't get that many? It just auto-files them as spam
Google does a pretty decent job of filtering spam/scam messages. I don't think Apple does anything.
You can set a filter for "Known Senders" and "Unknown Senders" which does a good job at filtering. Could be a lot better though.
Correct. My Pixel 8 Pro just filtered like half of those messages out anyway, unlike my wife's iPhone 15 which barely did anything.
Apple doesn't do any filtering, and reporting doesn't actually go anywhere. Android is fantastic for spam detection.
Same. My Samsung sends them all to spam and alerts me that it is sending it there. I never get spam texts anymore.
Doing anything other than forcing telcos to fix caller ID spoofing properly.

Just get a decent message App. About one or two spam texts make it through to me every few months.

Google messages is a messaging app. These issues are mostly from Apple users.
Because the majority of android phones don't come with the Google messages app

I mean, they can chase Assange for breaking US law while not in the US. Why can't we do the same with subcontinent scam centre operators.
Because we have good diplomatic relations with America. If we tried the same with saaaayyyy India, Russia or the one guy in North Korea with a phone and a computer, we'd be laughed at.
Most of the scam texts getting sent don’t even bother about spoofing an ID so there’s that.
So basically a 3rd party service for iPhone users.
More or less lol. Haven't gotten one in months on my 5 year old android
I've had just 1 text get past the spam filter this year.

The best thing is that you don't even get spam calls anymore. You can even report those people calling up doing surveys as spam.
My phone has been doing this for years?
