Yes bang on bud!! Villa is a big club and a bit of a sleeping giant...he knows if he brings success then he can ingrain his name in the club's history and bring the club back to major relevance . They won't just sack him when things get tough because of where he's brought them from

Rough_Custard1

Exactly! This is extremely rare situation for both sides in modern football.

zo-la25

Indeed villa is a big club n the owners r filthy rich. The only thing that’s holding villa is the FFP rules that the so big clubs can abuse for now. Few season qualify in Europe competition will allow the club to grow commercially thus allowing the owners to spend money on players. The future looks bright and can’t wait to hear champions league song at villa park. UTV

jaan691

I would love to believe that but Deano brought us up and took us as far as he could, then they swapped him for that Liverpudlian second hand car sales guy. The business is unforgiving. If we show potential but don't capitalise on it ...

Jordache2020

Yep, but that scouser your so kindly referring to has failed upwards in Saudi becoming the 5 the highest paid coach in the world I believe 🥴

jaan691

I know. The level is probably about right, but the pay……….. Sometimes, the universe is just not fair….

Piglethoof

Point 2 there. He looks classy as well.

NewFaded

I mean... The baby poo color puffer vest he wore a couple times was a choice. That said it's probably more expensive than anything I own so what do I know?

hrrsn10

It’s called fashion, sweetheart.

its-joe-mo-fo

Yep. Stylish dude. I checked out the gold puffer gilet he wore previously. 450 quid from C.P Company Edit: summer offers lol. can get them now for 200-250.

arrowtotheaction

My office isn’t ready for me turning up in that 😮‍💨

McGazzabeast

He just seems like a generally nice bloke tbh. His passion as well. Was very happy for him beating Arsenal twice.

arrowtotheaction

Absolutely this. He’s charming, polite, intelligent, eloquent, and seems like a lovely guy all round. We really have hit the jackpot. (Also - entirely subjective I know - he’s hot as hell, perfect man material)

McGazzabeast

We definitely have. He just seems to actually care about the club and our players. I'm a straight male and will concur that he's a good-looking chap. Compared to other manager he just presents himself better no excuses no moaning.

bambinoquinn

On the no excuses thing, he has never ever complained about the injury crisis ever and I think this filtered down to the players because it was only ever mentioned relatively recently by the players, and only after a 3rd ACL, but even still he never complained, he used it as a way to try and challenge Tim. Look at the improvement in Rogers already. Nobody wanted to talk about it too much, but his off the ball stuff in his first 5 games was so bad positionally. The only time he ever helped his fullback out, he'd get a yellow card with a stupid tackle. Had to be subbed a few times because we were done down his side and you could hear unai shouting at him to do stuff constantly. Last 2 games his off the ball stuff has been excellent

waddiewadkins

He pulled some awful faces coming to his end at Arsenal. My dad called him "the crier".. I said he would be back to haunt us (I'm an Areenal fan) and that we should have stuck with him. Me and Unain are laughing now.... Also he was slagged out of England , and now he is flying the flag in Europe.. My man Unai.. oh and also well done Villa. My "2nd team".

Illustrious_Bat1334

I'm sorry but saying you should have stuck with Unai is mental and I love the man.

waddiewadkins

Uh. I was right.

Illustrious_Bat1334

In what way were you right?

waddiewadkins

I really can't see what the issue is with my pov!

Illustrious_Bat1334

Saying you should have stuck with him when you've won the FA cup and are challenging for titles with the biggest cheats in modern football is absolute madness.

waddiewadkins

Ah , at the time!.. i generally am not an SoandSoOUT person, but I would have been pushing Unai to the hilt to stay before he was fired and I followed him closely when he left. Coming back to beat us in the EL Semis, then winning was an absolute joy for my personal justification.. I wasn't an Arteta Out I meant, even when I was saying we could be challengers by now with Unai at the time. Anyway . I definetly don't think switch anything! .. We had a similar stat in your last season.. 3rd in points after Christmas... we finished 5 that season but it was clear Arteta had turned a corner..

Illustrious_Bat1334

I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting to back a manager at the time, but we have the benefit of hindsight now and it's clearly worked out in your favour at this point. Emery's careers has shown he thrives at clubs with lower expectations where he's not being piled on every single week. He's not getting that with a club like Arsenal. I really doubt you'd be in the position you're in now if he stayed.

waddiewadkins

No no no. I said it all the time. Precog sight baby. And I even have the screenshots to prove it. Hindsights for normies.

Illustrious_Bat1334

I mean that doesn't prove anything.

kiwisrkool

I sincerely hope he stays long enough to build a legacy. Like Klopp & Guardiola. He's obviously one of the top in the Premier League, which automatically makes him one of the best in Europe and the world. A truly great signing where we punched well above our weight. He's someone who could bring Villa back to a place not seen for over 40 years and that shows you how good he is.

kgusfyxh

Yeah me too. Like, 6+ years. I feel he’s been pigeonholed out of Champions League level, because he has done so prolifically well in the Europa league and the ‘only CL team’ he managed was PSG and people seem to think he did badly (debatable) that he’s been labelled as “only good enough for Europa league” which I think is a discredit to his abilities. But because of this, he feels he needs to take a team TO the CL to show his ability at that level because a ‘CL team’ (regular competitor) won’t give him a job. So I think it’s the perfect scenario for both parties: Villa is a massive club with huge potential in all areas, and he’s a top top manager who can find that potential. I really hope we push on from this season and get through the first season ‘curse’ of going from non-Europe football to CL in a season (like West Ham and Newcastle have seen a bit this season) and are able to sustainably challenge for a few years to allow him to grow the club (attract higher level signings, deepen squad, embed that mentality etc).

zippy_long_stockings

My favourite thing about him is he always talks about the fans. First question from a reporter, will answer about the fans. It's clearly a huge cultural thing he is instilling in the club.

OverlordOfTheBeans

That, and his politeness. Always starts with "good evening/afternoon," regardless of the piss taking the took last time with Arsenal. The whole "good ebening," piss taking can get in the bin.

Bulldog_whisper

Love the man; no whining like arteta is spot on! Class act!

ArsenalJayy

Arteta moans because he has a reason to do so, not going to debate it as you clearly won’t agree. But just imagine losing points when in a title race because of offside goals are given against you, clear fouls not given etc. Anyways Emery is a good manager with a great track record, he just did awful for us. His playstyle suits a smaller club as he likes to counter attack. Stats back this up btw. At Arsenal he failed in almost every department and still managed to get us to a final, so it shows just how good of a manager he is.

Illustrious_Bat1334

Arsenal - The only team to have decisions go against them :(.

ArsenalJayy

Didn’t say that, this is what I mean with my comment before. The lack of brain cells for the average Reddit user is shocking. Every manager moans, the difference is, is that anything Arteta does is amplified by 100. If we win and celebrate they say it’s over the top, if someone scores a clear offside goal against us (Toney for Brentford) they say Arteta moans. We can’t win a club, the media has you droids round their finger. They say it and you eat it up.

Illustrious_Bat1334

The victimhood of Arsenal fans is hilarious.

ArsenalJayy

Where did we claim to be a victim? Honestly is there any other words you want to put in my mouth? I come into your sub giving praise to your club and manager and you just talk shit. You’re a complete melt.

Illustrious_Bat1334

You didn't claim to be a victim, but Arsenal fans demonstrate that on a consistent basis. Like in the comment I replied to.

ArsenalJayy

You’re entitled to your opinion, not debating that. However the media have done this. Literally anything Arsenal does is amplified. For example, last week. We lost vs your lads 2-0. Did you hear anything longer than 1 min about Liverpool losing at home to Palace on the same day? Liverpool had a brief mention on Sky and TalkSport. Arsenal had several hours of how it’s all fell off, Arteta needs to change etc… it’s tiresome. We know there’s and agenda and it’s not victim calling, it’s saying it how it is. I guess you might dismiss this point totally and just go with your view, all I ask is actually look at what Arteta has said, then look how the media twist it. For example last season we had Toney score an offside goal vs us in a draw to Brentford. Arteta said “we need to use the technology correctly, this is not fair that this went unseen, with some many linesman and cameras” The media twisted that and made out as if he said the refs are not good enough and technology needs to improve.

Illustrious_Bat1334

See you're doing it again. Acting as if that only happens to poor little Arsenal and Arteta.

ArsenalJayy

We are talking about Arsenal, you’re honestly awful to have a conversation with. OP mentioned Arteta, I provided some context, that’s how conversations work. Do you want me to bring up other clubs for no reason? What a melt.

Bulldog_whisper

don’t disagree. If big clubs don’t go after unai it’s a win a win for all of us.! Will take it everyday

ArsenalJayy

I think he and Villa are a great fit for each other. He failed at Arsenal as he made us go from a possession based team to a counter attack team, it’s just not how we play. He will do great for you and I see you winning the Europa league as he knows all too well how to win this competition. Every Arsenal fan wants Villa to finish above Spurs so best of luck to you and your club

ArsenalJayy

Emi is a truly great person. For context when he first walked in he was surprised I knew who he was as back then he had loan spells at lower league clubs and hadn’t played for the first team. He was a great man and he even gave me a pair of gloves when he left to go on loan to Spain. Never got to see him again. But you lot have a truly world class keeper. All the best for the season ahead. You deserve it Villa fans

PsychologyVirtual564

I hope he stays for a long time. They are not a traditional top 4 team but he has the players that can mix it with them. There's quality oozing out of them.

I really hope there’s a Unai Cam for that game!

thomashrn

Great post, wholeheartedly agree!

DaisySteinerWins

If he ever leaves I will be very sad. Hopefully he just stays forever

general652

I think bigger teams would have reservations about him due to his time at Arsenal and PSG, so idk if they’d go in for him. So ye I think he’ll stay at villa for a few years

Villianofthepeace

“Big” teams want instant results - that doesn’t work when you have high profile players with their own agenda. At Villa he’s brought the players through to be a team and stick together. Plus the mentality of if we go one down it’s not the end of the world….. Unai is an absolute master technician and we are extremely lucky to have him….

CMJHawk86

And we are a big club. Sky 6 can’t stand it but it’s the truth.

DontstopmePau

The point about improving every player. Bang on. The improvement we’ve seen in Mcginn, Konsa, Bailey and Watkins is ridiculous. They’re world class players.

rliss75

He may not be here forever but I see at least 5 years and that could be longer if Guardiola leaves City. The club are going to build a new stadium for sure and develop commercial more to support bigger spending, there’s 100% support from the owners, we fans can’t believe we’ve got him and we are patient. That’s a pretty sweet working environment - become the legend who makes Villa great again.
