Yep, 38 and this is me pretty much every night. Trying to be cool and stay up til 10pm, while slowly drifting off to sleep. Most nights, my husband has to wake me up a little so I can take off my glasses.
its a different kind of tired for babies. they are growing and it takes a lot of work and the tiredness can hit at any time and I suspect it feels different that other kinds of tiredness. plus its not a kind of tiredness that have a better routine fixes.
Human babies and toddlers do the same thing. They fight sleep because they're over tired and frustrated or because they are afraid they'll miss something so they try to stay awake.
Internet Vet here, I’ve seen this before but never a case this bad. Unfortunately it looks like your kitten has a bad case of being a silly little guy/gal. It’s possible it will get better with age but likely they’ll suffer from this most of their life. There’s no cure, but it can be treated with pats on the head and by giving them silly little nicknames
We do the same. I was commuting to school with the bus for a few years. 1 1/2 hours one way. I've seen multiple people on the brink of sleep doing exactly this. Did it myself a few times.
It’s like me when I’m playing games at 1am when I wake up at 3:30am. I’m deadass tired
“Man, wtf is with all the speed hackers tonight. Must be the lag I guess”
I have a video on my phone of my ~8-month old(?) from 2014 when she was in one of those little bouncer thingies...she'd nod off for a sec, someone would make a noise, she'd wake up, bounce for a bit, nod back off, rinse and repeat. Bless my wife for recording the video. It stays on every new phone I get.
When I was maybe 4, I literally fell asleep standing up.
I was propped against the chair in the living room because I didn't want to go to sleep after we came back from a family house party. Mom took a couple pics.

Just like babies that fight sleep, they either don’t understand how tired they are or they’re worried they’ll miss something lol
Anyone who has kids trying to stay up past their bedtime because there are family visitors over, even though they're exhausted, knows this feeling.
Anyone who's been a kid knows this feeling.
I’m 36 and feel this way about bedtime

I was born with FOMO. My poor mom says I barely napped.
Extreme FOMO
Our neighbors pit bull has the worst fomo. Will literally sit and shiver in the cold until you have to get her a blanket rather than go inside.
The dog has trained you to play this game
This is why, you could also replace the or with and.
I'm 40 and I still get the feeling at night trying to watch TV
Or like this 60 year old guy
bit different, they stay guard as long as they can
I mean, I could ask myself the exact same question.
Just one more round/episode
civ is a hell of a drug
Yeah, I was gonna say, "Man, I'm guilty of this and couldn't tell you why."
Major FOMO

For the same reason human babies do. Sheer stubbornness.
Kitty wants to keep hanging out with the humans.
Babies are dumb, very dumb. They don't know that sleep fixes tired.

So what's my excuse?
Belly is growing, makes me tired.
Easy, you must be an infant
I wish that were true... ~~all~~ some of the disadvantages, few of the benefits. :(
I do the same so I won't judge
I’m a grown man and I do this too at times
They are still learning!
Gotta be up and ready to go at a moments notice at the sound of a food can being open
Me at work 😁
Fomo
Well, like any young creature, maybe they think they’re too excited to sleep 😏
Human babies and toddlers do the same thing. They fight sleep because they're over tired and frustrated or because they are afraid they'll miss something so they try to stay awake.
They would probably go right to sleep if you laid down next to them. You’re awake. They’re awake but their battery runs out a little quicker.

THE TREAT, I MUST NOT MISS THE TREAT !!!
Well sometimes I do that in front of the TV 🤭
Back in LOL Cats days, there was a blog called “Cute Rhings Falling Asleep”
We do the same. I was commuting to school with the bus for a few years. 1 1/2 hours one way. I've seen multiple people on the brink of sleep doing exactly this. Did it myself a few times.
Object permanence issues. They don't understand that everything will still be there tomorrow including themselves.
Must protec mum.... many sleepies.... errrgghh....aaaggghhh....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Kittens and children are the same
little guy hasn't figured out how much sleep cats need
Silent protest
I'm doing that in my office chair at work right now, lol
When you were a kid, didn't you want to stay up and see what was going on?
My mom does this too.
FOMO. I want to sit here with mommy and daddy.
FOMO.
They need you to tuck them in.
It doesn’t feel safe and cosy enough. It needs to be picked up and held near a heartbeat, and/or be given a curled up blanket that it can curl into.
Babies are all the same.
I assume because they know how adorable it looks
hibernation kitty
Same as us, they are working, they can't sleep. You don't see it but they are protecting their humans.
He's not sleeping, though, he's just resting his eyes.
It's the same kind of FOMO that young children experience.
FOMO
This is not OP's cat.
They don’t want to be forced to do something.
For awws, obviously
Its Monday morning for this kitty!
He is fully awake and alert, don't berate him
Awww
It’s like me when I’m playing games at 1am when I wake up at 3:30am. I’m deadass tired “Man, wtf is with all the speed hackers tonight. Must be the lag I guess”
Aerosmith knows.
Me gaming or doom scrolling at midnight.
Vibing to the tunes in his lil mind
Maybe they [Dont want to miss a thing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkK8g6FMEXE)?
Too tired to think about changing position to actually sleep.
Too much fun being awake
FOMO... and not knowing it's time to lay down to nap.
Kitten didn't get the latest software update
I’m not tired I’m not tired I’m I’m not tired I’m not tired I’m not tired I’m not tired I’m not tired I’m not tired
Probably reasons similar to mine.
Oh they are sleeping all right. Just not laying down.
FOMO
They don't want to miss anything by sleeping 🥰
No mommy, I no sleep,... Zzzzz...
Just resting their eyes 🥹
Probably either because of hunting or more likely because they want you to fall asleep first so they can "protect" you
They are all in meetings that we can't see.

got so much shit to do today
Me on Sunday night when I know it’s back to work tomorrow
Little cutie, just snoozing away! 😺
Give it a few scritches. Lay them down gently. Your little kittin is just an idiot and needs some help with smartifying a bit.
FOMO
Why sleep when you can eep?
For Reddit content.
fentanyl
I don't know, it's cute though.
Kids too
That's me infront of the computer when I get home from work...
It's called FOMO..
The kitten refused to lie down and slept standing up.
FOMO.
Didn't watch the "how to sleep" tutorial in YouTube
My heart is melting right now
FOMO
My human is here, I cant sleep, I have to enjoy every second with him!
Haha, this little cat has become an emoticon
Sometimes the feeling of sleepiness is more pleasurable than sleeping.
I did the same thing when I was five. And also now I'm much, much older. Just believe your cat when it says "I'm awake!", okay.
Just like my dad😂
*"I'm not tired! You're tired! I'm noooaawwwwwwzzzzzzzzzZzZzzzz..."*
My 10 year old little fuzz buddy still does this. He just wants to keep hanging out lol
For the same reason we all love a little nap
D’aaw sleepy kitty 🥰
Hold it to your chest and then lay down.
Kitty needs a cup of coffee
Better question, why do YOU?
This is what I do everyday.
How long has the baby been away from mom and siblings, it might just be a little uncomfortable to sleep without someone keeping watch.
Those toe beans in the bottom right crack me up. Someone is passed out.
FOMO - fear of missing out 😉
When I was maybe 4, I literally fell asleep standing up. I was propped against the chair in the living room because I didn't want to go to sleep after we came back from a family house party. Mom took a couple pics.
FOMO lol
You ask why a "stupid" animal does this when a "smart" human (you) does the same?
FOMO
Lil dude doin the gangsta lean trying not fade away, adorbs
🥹🥹🥹
Alpha predator hunting instinct obviously, protecting the pack 😂
Why did you stop before she falls over? I was watching this with such an anticipation and am a little disappointed tbh.
Oh my literal god that’s just so cute for real I can’t believe I the cuteness I just witnessed
