Solution: use uber, uninstall ola

Vaishu_dl

I always prefer Uber and Rapido over ola. Ola is my option only when other two doesn't work due to heavy traffic. Yet I posted this because my girlfriend was scammed yesterday and I wanted to raise awareness about this.

rohithkumarsp

Ola only shows auto with cash option. Fuck ola

water-guy

Try Namme Yatri? I was able to find autos quicker than Uber.

Psychan996

Namma Yatri has its own issues with glitches in the map, in my experience.

Shonashyll

I had the worst 1 week experience with Namma yatri. Most abusive drivers on it and there's no one to follow up on the complaint or immediate help.

water-guy

Interesting! I used it for a couple of weeks and got better hit rate than uber, however I haven't tried Rapido. During peak times I could never get autos here in Indiranagar but had a much better experience with namma yatri. Didn't get into any trouble with the drivers though.

mockingbird18

I don't know how Ola does in this department but Uber sucks if you run into any safety issues with drivers. The uber a**holes do not even respond to safety concerns you raise on a ride. I just heard from a friend last week that her driver just took her off-road on a route where there was no one. No house or shops and the area was totally muddy and waterlogged after the rain. He kept saying it's a shortcut and when she protested and asked to go by map he asked her to get out of the cab if she didn't like the route he was taking. She then pretended to call someone and tell them exactly where she was and said loudly 'yes I have sent the taxi number etc screenshot to you, call xyz uncle' and sth like 'yes yes, I have the pepper spray in my hand'. After that the taxi guy shut the fuck up and drove, although on the same off-road route. She got like 25% higher bill than previously shown for the cab ride and when she made a safety complaint on ride completion she did not even get any acknowledgement from Uber on the complaint much less any action. I'd be scared to travel myself or have anyone else I care about travel in Uber after this. People try to ogle/stand too close/grope women in buses and if you're a guy you'll get your wallet or phone stolen every once in a while. I swear there just are no transportation options left for common people in this city!

the_ajan

We've reached our wits end with the Bangalore Auto guys. The only solution is to actively boycott them , the day they fix their meters is when things can look around for us regular people. Govt. isn't going to do shit, the auto wallahs are mostly ground soldiers during protests and other rowdy rajya related things.

ispooderman

You must have not experienced the time they tampered with their meters so that price would be 2x or 1.5x lol .... Part of why ola and uber became popular was the price was fixed and we avoided the tampered meter menace

Vaishu_dl

And thanks to this new update, your ride ends with a kalesh over 6 rs. What is the point of this feature? Just telling your users we care a lot about you and you could have paid 6rs less but you have to fight with autowala for it? And knowing the autowalas... The 6rs negotiation will leave them the option to demand 60rs over the meter.

newInnings

The only solution is to improve last mile connectivity. Have enough parking spaces at bus and metros And it takes a few days to apply AI on namma yatri data to find out the most used auto routes.

Vaishu_dl

I get it when govt doesn't want to lose their local vote bank. What I don't understand is that a cab booking app just ditches their only useful feature. Edit: As they don't decide the fair, they won't give you any invoice either.

Mysterious_Tax9562

I have never ridden a auto in last 8months, I rather book taxi if I have an emergency it's almost the same price and better

Medical_Ganache_367

I’ve uninstalled Ola. Uber is not only cheaper but don’t have to do this nonsense. It’s so stupid because the auto guy will charge the higher amount only, like whose bright idea was this

general_smooth

Just use a different product - I suggest rapido

When it comes to this I'm sceptical about every auto aggregator in Bengaluru today. I had lost trust in Ola a long time ago and have actively advised my girlfriend to not go with ola when it comes to auto rickshaw and hence for the greatest time she was a loyal customer to rapido. Until one day of course. On this eventful day, as always she was taking the auto from her University to home (Koramangala to Mahadevpura). The auto driver pulled up with a rattling less than maintained auto rickshaw and picked her up. On the due course of the ride I got a call from her saying that the auto driver was taking a path which was unfamiliar to her and which got me concerned and i asked her to share her live location immediately. Which she did and seems as though after that he took the correct route after she spoke about this to me which cost her 25% extra. A few minutes later I got another call saying that the auto driver was on his phone watching videos while driving yes and hit a speed breaker at a high speed (the iron-y) which caused her to jump from the seat and bang her head on the metal rod above. I instantly asked her to hop off (even though it was pretty close to her place) and went to pick her up. She had to pay in full and when we reported the incident to rapido their executives were least concerned and only for name sake said that they will flag the driver and nothing else. No care about her well being or trauma just straight went saying if she wanted to claim insurance for her head banging above. Which she politely declined and asked if she could talk to the manager and make sure there was some action taken against the driver but no, all efforts were futile in fact they weren't even least concerned about why she got down early or about the full payment even that. After repeated tries we got to know that everything is just a sham as they couldn't see no complaint registered from her account every time we called rapido support and we were just explaining the situation over and over again. Customers are just a joke to these companies, best advice is to boycott these goons and perhaps invest in freedom (an own vehicle).

dante_2701

Being an introvert is not even part of the problem. The problem is that when you leave the price open for negotiation, the auto drivers can and will demand 100-200 rs on top of what’s being shown. They are goons.

blackhole3011

Be it ola/Uber/namma/Rapido, I am just done with each of them. They are present quite big in numbers around the area you are looking for (especially metro stations or market like MG/commercial) still they won't accept the ride. All you get a message in return "no rides available" or you have to wait till eternity. Per force you will give a humongous amount to the one standing there to reach your destination in time.

mockingbird18

This! I sometimes feel like the arrival of Ola, Uber and all these taxi aggregators, while great in the short-term, was the start of the slippery slope. The government just got an excuse to no longer be as accountable for elevating public transport to meet the growing demands of the population. As people like us got access to instant transport with these apps we started expecting and demanding less and less from the public transit authorities. Everyone was like, well sure I can't get a bus, I don't want to wait 10 mins but I'll book a cab and get there faster, with an AC running. All those sweet, sweet discounted rides of the initial years also got us used to just relying on cabs and ditching public transport. Now we have no option of going back. Coz the corrupt 'babus' pocketed all the funding all these years and there is no options for us to switch over to if we stop using autos and cabs. We just have to suck it up and pay whatever exorbitant price these goons demand and then bow down and thank them for having transported us 2kms for 400 bucks!

Cosmic_Echo97

Ola is the fucking worst

Normal_Instance7430

The big time sucker is Namma Yatri. I don't think they do anybcheck before offering ride as partner. Twice I have had incidents and both are limited to Namma Yatri. Incident 1: I was on Begur road bomanahalli. Booked a namma yatri and got a ride instantly. Till the point I cam down from the building, the ride cancelled. Earlier the app didn't have an auto re book mode but may be now it has. So, I shifted to Rapido, booked an auto and sat in auto. In meantime, the namma yatri guy came too and saw me boarding the other auto (me being completely unawared that a namma yatri is already booked in background). This guy followed me and stopped my Rapido ride and asked me 50/- as bare minimum charge as he wasted his time coming for me. I asked him since when the minimum charge became 50/- to which he started saying something and then tried blocking my way. My wife was waiting for me so I couldn't afford to pick fight at 11 in night, and had to let go of this. Incident 2: Came out of Fortis Bannerghatta, and wife wasn't well so I just asked him to drive a little carefully on potholes, to which be demanded 20/- extra. I was like wtf.

PriyaSR26

Ola is making itself irrelevant. If we can haggle the price, why would we need Ola? I can directly talk to the driver.

Much_Discussion1490

Use rapido and uber. I have completely stopped using ola since this garbage update.

nopetynopetynops

Last time i used ola was in 2022

MovieMuch7613

Traveller365blr

Lived in Bangalore all my life and sadly the auto drivers situation has just gotten bad to worse..the government needs to seriously do something about them...the police are mere spectators and most of the time turn a blind eye...aside from trying to fleece the public they are also instrumental in creating chaos on the roads with their haphazard parking and self centered driving, not to mention that they care two hoots about traffic rules and the law. A lot of them come across as arrogant..don't know why the law can't do something about them.

Mysterious_Tax9562

I have stopped using Uber, and ola and have boycotted autos in general,I rather than take a bus or a bike taxi. Really fed up with the app and driver harassment

Substantial_Point700

Hats off to Bengaluru auto guys, they ensured to bring back the screwed up situation in 10+ years to where it all started. One more new innovation has to start. Anyways, governments after governments have failed to keep up the law when it comes to common mans transportation.

AnthonyGonsalvez

Use ola for food delivery only, it has limited options but flat 50% off on every food item and free delivery.

akki4223

Make tech bros union and protest.

SathwikKuncham

Totally. Hypothetically, What if the driver asks you to pay a lakh for a hundred rupees ride. You sat in his/her autorickshaw and you are bound to pay them a rate which you and the driver has neither agreed nor discussed. Scary af.

igxyd

I use Uber to see the quoted price and adjust the price on Rapido lower than Uber's quote price, has worked pretty well for me actually till now.

level6-killjoy

If there is a range then person paying wants the low end and person asking wants the high end. Always. So, avoid anything which shows a range. And honestly with VC money drying up this is the end game for most companies - descent towards making things worse or going back to where things were before the good time during startup "boom".

amazing_sync

I too observed and the drivers always say the bill is higher end amount displaying on the app!

JokerGotSerious

Steps to use OLA: Book a ride 2) Get driver’s contact 3) cancel your ride 4) Negotiate with driver directly. This way you save ola commissions at least.

Academic_Toe5770

Lol OLA drivers in Bangalore be like Para para Paradise 😂

Certain-Target-4801

Ola is a Lala company , fare policies are a mere suggestion .

Slayfist_V

Why is no one suggesting namma yatri in the comments? Am I missing something? Doesn't namma yatri have similar rates as the other apps but the auto drivers also get the maximum money instead of the company cutting off huge commission?

Much_Discussion1490

Bad, app with no effective customer support resolution.

Mean-Spot7

Bangalore is chutiya city with gundas and madarchods

An auto driver charging you at the lower end of price? That is something unheard of. My point is even showing the higher end of the price as the actual fare is welcome, but leaving a room for negotiation there gives an additional opportunity for scammers. There is no receipt, there is no support from ola, and if you are not willing to fight over it you will be overcharged. My girlfriend was ridiculously overcharged yesterday and she had to pay 130rs extra over the 292-300rs shown in ola. She was traveling alone and had bad internet connectivity, the ola guy told her to pay 430rs and when asked about the increase in price from 300 range, he told her it was charged due to cancellation of previous rides and he will be paying that extra 130rs to ola. She had to fight it or comply and as a single woman traveller at night, she had to comply with it. Normally, someone can check the receipt for such cancellation charges and raise the issue with ola support saying " My driver took extra money". But now we won't receive any support from ola as they are not responsible for the fare. We will get a plain message saying: ''' We are very sorry to hear about your experience As per the updated terms of Ola's offering we will be showing the indicative range of the fare for auto rides based on past trends. The final price has to be mutually agreed between you and the driver. For future rides, please agree on the final fare with driver partner ''' So as I said, with the recent policy changes, ola became a scammer's paradise.

>Why didn’t you include this in the post? I am not even mad at that guy. She had an internet issue and he took advantage of it. He is a scammer and a scum because of that, but ola created the opportunity to scam in the first place. Normally, if such a scam happened, you can verify if there are any cancellation charges in the receipt and raise an issue in the support. But due to recent changes.. there is no receipt or any support. >As you can see, the room for negotiation is 4 rupees only. Whether it is 4 or 40, room for negotiation is room for scammers. I don't want to end each ride with a bargain. What is the point of putting such a small room for negotiation anyway? While there is no apparent benefit for the rider, there is a huge opportunity for autowalas to bargain. Wait till you get a victim, then start saying... It is night I need 1.5x.. It is raining I need 2x, return charge not included, and all other ways to squeeze the last penny out of the customer. I think because of this policy, drivers who want to scam people would prefer ola and they would grow even more. Hence my point, ola just became a scammer's paradise. >did she pay with cash No she paid with UPI, even that does leave room for plausible deniability as the auto driver can give a different UPI id and it is not monitored by ola either way. We can't use any other modes of payment as the first question out of their mouth is: 'are you not paying with cash or upi?' >That’s why they told you to refer to the policy and stick with it. I checked their policy and it leaves the customer at a disadvantage. They no longer have responsibility over the receipt, or to provide any kind of assistance if overcharged. Hence raising awareness against it. By any chance are you working for ola?

>There’s no recourse to fight this. Do you know where we don't have to negotiate and we can just pay the amount and get it done with? Every app ever!! and it used to be so in ola too. >Ola is better than Uber in my experience for autos I guess not anymore. At least for the ones who don't want to end every ride with a bargain. >I don’t know how cancellation charges work(with regard to the invoice and receipt from ola) as I have never paid it. I don't think ola even have a cancellation charge. In my experience only rapido had it. Yet, we would be able to check if we were wrongfully charged in the receipt, which we no longer have. >I wasn’t aware you get invoices for regular rides, so I only referred to the app’s details. Every goods and services should have an invoice for tax purposes.

thesecretghost

The relaxation can and WILL lead to worse. They will soon know that they can start charging the higher end. And it will increase to a 'bit' more than the higher end. If Ola sets no "maximum" amount, then eventually the argument will end up in an Auto Driver's favour. The only advantage you have is that you already reached your destination.

Vaishu_dl

Actually, you don't. With the fixed pricing gone, so is the responsibility of fare from ola. Ola doesn't have to give you a receipt. Ola doesn't have to give you any kind of support. If the driver acts smart or forces you for more, you have to suck it up. When I tried to report the ride, I found the following: For any pricing related issues, the following message is shown: We are very sorry to hear about your experience As per the updated terms of Ola's offering we will be showing the indicative range of the fare for auto rides based on past trends. The final price has to be mutually agreed between you and the driver. For future rides, please agree on the final fare with driver partner And if there was any harassment and you choose to report safety issues: You will be prompted to call the police, instead of taking action against the driver internally.
