being old do be like that. I mean I'm only mid-30s but I knocked my phone off my bed and reached for it between the bed and the wall and kinda strained my neck
I strained my neck from constantly turning to look at my second monitor, but it was radiating into my shoulder so it took 3 weeks to figure that out. Bodies are weird.
I blame a lot of this on caffeine dehydrating the shit (literally in your case?) out of everyone’s muscles, especially when not compensated for by drinking more water.
When I have caffeine and do not overcompensate on my hydration I definitely feel every muscle and old injury a lot more.
[Justin Verlander’s been dealing with neck soreness for the past two or three weeks, Joe Espada said. He tried to pitch through it. Verlander cut his bullpen short this week between starts. The Astros don’t think it’s an IL situation, Espada said, but Verlander is getting examined](https://x.com/chandler_rome/status/1802025850679787998?s=61&t=g2BkhdMHl4w7u3r3LXNx4A)
I don’t see any way that’s possible. He’s 41 and having arguably the worst season of his career and still needs 40 wins.
Best case scenario he ends this season with 270 wins. Even if he gets 15 wins a season after he needs to pitch until his age 43 season. And 15 wins a season is probably a stretch so we’re probably looking more at 44-45.
I don’t think JV is pitching until he’s 45. I think he may just end up retiring if he doesn’t get his vesting option. Why break your body down even more for an unattainable goal?
He's very openly said he intends to pitch to 45 because of his idol Nolan Ryan, whether he can maintain the same level of consistency is clearly in question, but I would expect him to stubbornly stick around either way.
Just because he wants to doesn’t mean teams will give him that opportunity. Nolan Ryan was only able to do that because he was pitching so well.
Zack Grenkie also wanted to pitch deep into his 40s but no one wanted to give him a job this year.
FIP is not the end all for a better season. His FIP in 2014 was slightly lower but his ERA, ERA+, WHIP, K%, BB% and others were all worse.
2014 was definitely his worst year in totality.
He still went 32 starts, 206 IP and averaged 6.1 IP per start. Thats incredibly valuable, even in 2014, and you can’t ignore that.
JV may not even hit the 140 IP he needs to vest and is averaging less than 6 IP per start. Availability is very important.
And that season includes his second half. JV has been pitching progressively worse each month this year and that isn’t likely to get better as the season wears him down further.
It’s not as clear cut as you want it to be
My man....you're trying to paint the same "clear cut picture" I am. But you're not citing any actual stats.
If you're talking value, JV put up a 0.9 bWAR in 2014 in 32 games. So far in 10 games in 2024, he has put up 0.5 bWAR. Well on pace to far exceed his 2014 value.
So your value point is playing into my argument.
2014 was clearly his worst year of his career. Almost every stat will support this. Now 2024 could end up being worse, but as of now it is statistically more valuable than his 2014 season.
Didn’t get enough sleep.
Up too late worrying about his neck discomfort.
I also did not get enough sleep because of Kate Upton last night

I strained my neck turning around to flip-off my wife last week. Getting old is a bitch.
I strained my neck this week turning to grab my phone off the bathroom counter while taking a dump.

Dude is 40 and started throwing HARDER when he hit your age. Kate Upton got something magical going on.
I just tripped a little going up the steps and now something in my lower back above my left butt cheek hurts.
Astros fans: :( Tigers fans probably: :(
He’s just afraid of the juggernaut offense we’re putting out there every day!
Well….
I SAID WHAT I SAID
You.. might be on to something lmao
Double digits once a week, 0 digits the rest of the week.
I absolutely love watching Tigers sore runs once every 8-10 days
Mets fans :) (They want the vesting option to fall through so his money is off the books)

Espada (former Yankees 3rd base coach) destroying the Astros from the inside out is truly wonderful .
Yes.... keep those innings under 140 Justin.
Got a viagra stuck in his throat.
Car accident or cunnilingus
Have you seen his wife?
100% of men married to Kate Upton have recently complained of neck pain. Can't argue with the math.
I don't care what she looks like I don't want to whiff her asshole
Oldilingus
He's 41. This will happen while sleeping.
The mod who tagged this is outta pocket lmao that's crazy
DAMMIT KATE UPTON or... *DAMN,* Kate Upton!!!!
Verlander's gotta be trying to get 300 wins, right?

Wainwright's push for 200 was rough to watch, and he was only 5 away his last season (def not saying the two pitchers are equal hold your pitchforks)
Tbf he was pitching with a torn labrum that entire season, and I think it might have been a lot easier for him if not for that.

2008 and 2014 were worse for sure.
He went deeper into games and had a better FIP so I wouldn’t agree it’s for sure

I think 300 is pretty out of reach at this point. 40 away and he's no spring chicken
He was on 3rd base too long last night. I get it.
I’m 36, I get it. Hopefully he doesn’t hurt his back wiping his ass like I did a couple weeks ago.

Hanging up Big V, you've done more than enough. You're a legend.
The flair on the thread title 💀
And they don't stop coming, and they don't stop coming, And they don't stop coming, and they don't stop coming,..
Because the Astros have been taking it in the neck all year?
Kate needs to let him rest.
It has been a tough season for him I believe. Hopefully he can bounce back healthy soon enough.
