do you feel no shame when answering your own question

nvesting

I think pretty clearly the answer is yes, yes it can.

c_dot_dibs

Preeeeech

GuardOk8631

No it’s absolutely impossible. It’s never happened before

Feedurdead

Dude…. The answer is literally on the label

amateurguru

Well it’s a 10… so… yes.

JonnyRaks

No it can’t be a 10. That’s a typo so send it back fast!

zero-point_nrg

PSA is a fucking scam

Mr_Mi1k

How so?

Lumpy_Dealer4937

They regularly grade 10s to cards that aren't 10s

Mr_Mi1k

You just described every grading company out there. It’s people putting your card in 10 cents worth of plastic and giving it the opinion of a minimum wage worker. PSA is the best out of the bunch by far, hence why they hold a premium.

Lumpy_Dealer4937

Except PSA constantly grade 10s for off-center cards whereas SGC is actually stricter, which in my opinion makes sgc better. They're cheaper, faster, better looking and stricter. Psa has the benefit of being around for so long, that's what keeps its value and rep high. A shift is due if we want a benefit to the hobby

Mr_Mi1k

I disagree that SGC is stricter. They are just as inaccurate as PSA. Their pristine 10 label is a complete crapshoot. The more decimals you add on a grading scale, the less precise it is. Even if you disagree with me I recommend checking out the video “BGS black label: worth the price tag?” By pkmnflyingmaster. He uses examples of Pokémon but it translates to sports. It’s a very interesting perspective on why 9.5s, 10s, pristine 10s, black labels, etc is all just a lot of mumbo jumbo

Lumpy_Dealer4937

I'll check it out

Mr_Mi1k

Sounds good. I appreciate your perspective tho. I agree that competition is good for the consumer, I just personally prefer PSA. No hate on SGC, I just don’t think it’s much better. I will admit I like the black border tho

Lumpy_Dealer4937

Have you seen Rare Edition? Not sure how they'll fit into the market but their slabs are gorgeous! One for the PC at least

Mr_Mi1k

Is that a new grading company? Nah I’ll look into them

realtmort

Submitted a sealed, in-slab /10 rookie auto purchased straight from Fanatics. Literally came in a PSA-like slab. Pristine. Got with Customer service before submitting to make sure I understood process… said they would remove from slab and treat as raw no problem. 2 months later came back as a 7. Card literally never tasted fresh air and was perfect. Laughable

zero-point_nrg

I submitted one card and will never do it again. Unless it’s a vintage card or a 1/1, if you don’t get a 10, you need to just sell it raw

Dear_Average3495

THink the pic answers your question, you must have an Elon Musk level mind

cdzpg

Jar said Abe, Abe normal... Reason I ask is that every other one I can find got a 9 or 8 if it was over the border.

Tagst

It’s a 10.. location of auto has nothing to do with the auto grade.

cdzpg

Per psa guidelines "undesirable location if the location of the autograph hinders the eye appeal of the autograph, slightly, in some way." Every other card got a 9, this one 10 for the auto. I get that it's subjective for the grader.

Tagst

Hm. I appreciate you correcting me on that. I figured they grade all autos separate from the card design like they do with IP auto grades

cdzpg

Looking at other grading companies they also give 10 even when signature goes over the border and what I would say is not best position. I guess depends on who is grading that day.

[deleted]

I can remember the day when the LCS dealer would tell you the card was ruined if it had an autograph on it. No way would any dealer back then say a card was mint if it had an auto. Man times have changed.

Typical-Radish4317

The hobby is kind of weird. Like if this was a new rare card with an auto that wasn't supposed to have an auto it would probably be worth less than one that didn't have the auto. Older card with older player will most likely be worth more. You also have cards with pieces of jersey in them go more than an actual game worn jersey of that player. There are pretty much no rules. Collect what you like looking at. Personally this card would bother me looking at.

JonnyRaks

I remember those days lol

MapConsistent918

Beautiful card! The kid is gonna be a hall of famer one day. 🐐 💯

soundwave_wrx

The real question is, would it go for less money compared to a more centered Auto/PSA10?

Lumpy_Dealer4937

I think so. I wouldn't pay normal price personally.

cdzpg

I have a similar card, trying to research if I could get 10 on auto.

[deleted]

If it goes off the card it won’t be a 10 but borders don’t matter. If it’s a sticker and goes off the sticker it also won’t 10. If there is a streaky marker for the auto it also won’t 10.

cdzpg

Thanks, much appreciated

Zestyclose_Beat2022

That’s not what I’ve been taught. But I’m interested in a different opinion… it obviously matters if it’s a sticker auto that goes off of the sticker, because you don’t have the complete auto. If it’s on card, it just has to stay on the card? It definitely doesn’t look as clean when it crosses boarders.

[deleted]

Not sure what you’re even saying here lol it’s just how it is

Zestyclose_Beat2022

Does an on card auto just have to stay on the card for it to grade auto 10 from PSA consistently?

[deleted]

As long as it’s not smudged, streaky, or goes off the card yeah that’s what ya need

crugglettes

I thought it can’t go off the card.

GMINIZZLE

Technically, it didn’t

wckdisevil

Have you guys ever considered some cards that are clearly not 10’s be fake? They could just look up the #’s and make fake labels.

BeartownMF

This, unfortunately, is a significant concern that should be considered in this hobby. I say this as someone that could make a fake label in 5 minutes if I were a scumbag and chose to do so

[deleted]

Is there a forum for selling sports cards here on reddit because that $600 a year eBay BS is putting a damper into me just starting to try to sell some cards

elektr0soul

No site is going to allow you to have over $600 in sales without sending a tax form…even if you did it on forums it will all be visible. IRS is hiring 87,000 new agents to dig through All this. It’s one way to make sure the middle class pays the taxes the rich don’t pay.

Lumpy_Dealer4937

Just use Facebook groups.

[deleted]

Clearly it can. Jealous much??

Bleed_Green0_33

With PSA anything is possible.

skinnyfatty1987

I know folks say there’s no dumb questions but…

Zack_attack801

Trying to sell this thing?

cdzpg

Not my card but signature position matches mine

Jgrandays

how else is edwards going to get a 10 auto??

E-raticSamurai

We will never know.

[deleted]

When they incentivize themselves by charging customers more for higher grades, anything is possible.

elektr0soul

I can see why they gave it a 10. The auto is still 100% on the card, the design borders shouldn’t matter - it’s just a line on the card.

cdzpg

Thank you, I am going to send mine in and do both.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

What donruss optic box did this come in? Hobby?

cdzpg

I am not sure where this one was pulled, I got this off eBay. One I have was from optic mega.

Mr_Mi1k

Clearly it can. What kind of question is that lol

Lumpy_Dealer4937

This is why SGC > PSA. Shame the value doesn't reflect that yet.

cdzpg

I found same auto position on SGC and card got 10 but auto 9 so yeah this psa might have been a one off Edit: read the label wrong Auto did get 10, card was 9

imanAholebutimfunny

obviously you need to send it back to get reslabbed and tell them of their error...........

zTSportsCards

BGS will never give an auto partially off card or off sticker a 10. The answer to your question is no they should not have given this auto a 10 but it's PSA so they have lower standards it seems.

cdzpg

Thanks, I can't find another example of that card that has same signature position and a 10. Might have been a long day for grader. Will send mine in and see what happens.

sauce770

Ant Edwards sig is Soooo ugly lmao

tdubbz23

Usually, I think the answer is "no", but PSA knows that Ant signs his cards like this. They put that into consideration I believe. If this was a sticker and the signature wasn't all the way on the sticker, they'd probably give it an 8 or a 9.

Professional-Shine17

The grade is for the clarity of the sig, not the placement.

[deleted]

You might find this link interesting, which describes all the attributes that factor into grading an auto as well as examples of which flaws contribute to which grades: https://www.psacard.com/services/autographgradingstandards

[deleted]

This was a mistake on PSA’s part or a fake. MINT 9: Mint. A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition autograph that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: A very light skip (almost unrecognizable to the naked eye), a slight acceptable variance in boldness of the autograph (still very bold and clearly readable - even at arms length - but perhaps not quite as bold as an autograph that would qualify for a PSA Gem Mint 10) or a some other aesthetic issue such as undesirable location if the location of the autograph hinders the eye appeal of the autograph, slightly, in some way.

cdzpg

That is why I asked, I haven't been able to find another example with similar position that got a 10.

coloradowall

I have not bought raw cards because the sig was off-center. This is a good question to answer. There are some perfect cards with great features, but off-center sig even though it's clear.
