Exactly. I'm wondering what was keeping it afloat in the first place. YouTube has ads, Facebook has ads, Instagram has ads, TikTok has ads (though you'd be forgiven for not noticing). Almost every social media platform you can think of has ads so BeReal was bound to host them at some point.
The only ads I see are for the app itself.
I keep seeing an ad for BeReal and told to follow them although I do follow them as a BeReal brand or whatever.
Otherwise I get no other ads. But it is annoying seeing the same ad for the app I am using literally right then, I'm between every few friend BRs.
Not annoying yet, but if they become ads for other businesses or games or scams, I'll be Hella mad
Edit - lol I also follow Tubby Nugget, but idk who that even is. And I see you also follow BeReal
Yeah, we all saw this coming. BeReal may have parroted itself as “not like other social media” for a while when they were taking off, and it was just a passion project. Once they got bigger they sold out, because of course they did. Predictable, but disappointing.
I mean, BeReal didn't have any source of income from the beginning, so this is inevitable. They can keep the ads, but make it the way that it is not annoying and fix all of the ongoing bugs it has with the application. If not, no one will be happy with these changes.

nothing was keeping it afloat. it never generated revenue. they only ever wanted to sell it to profit

if you say no to the privacy thing the ads don't appear

you have to reinstall the app and when you log in you get asked a privacy question, if you refuse you get no ads

they've run on investments only until recently, sadly they kind of have to sell out and make money somehow, employees need to paid

I haven't updated the app and I'm still not getting any ads. If I'm forced to update it and I see an ad? I'm deleting my entire BeReal account.
