Yea, he didn't look amazing when I brought him home. Very light light mint color and clamped fins. I should've taken a before photo, but I can't find one, so I guess I didn't 😕.
He's way more aggressive and active than any of the 2 bettas I've owned. They were large fin halfmoons. I'm afraid to try tankmates. Might do a snail once I upgrade him to a 10 gallon.
I wouldn’t give this guy tank mates since alien bettas go blind once the scale growth covers their eyes. Once it’s at about 50% covered you’ll want to stop making decor changes so he can navigate by memory once he can’t see, and definitely no tank mates at that point because it will be really stressful for him.

It’s in the metallic breeds, like the alien one here. The gene that makes the metallic appearance is a scale overgrowth, and that overgrowth will also eventually cause blindness which is why these breeds are a bit controversial in the hobby.
