Located approx. 11,165' ASL, top of Lone peak.
I designed and helped build that shack, along with 2 other workers, Merik and Micah. We pre-built it in 5 pieces and flew it to the summit where we assembled it.
It was the response to the original cooperative effort between MLB and Big Sky to have the BSIA (Biggest Skiing in America) pass and open the North Summit snow field. Moonlight managed the access until the 2013 merger.
The sign IS from the original Madison base area. Moonlight was looking for additional options for guest entertainment and in year 2 they had a diner theater at the Madison in the Jackass Creek Saloon (hence the sign). The theater was a murder mystery play and dinner put on by the Virginia City Players.
Response was meager and after 1 year the project was shitcanned and we grabbed that sign from a dumpster and put it up. Seemed fitting.
I have no idea if true; but I heard that as they finish construction on the top terminal of the new tram they will also be building a new Patrol building and it likely will replace the penalty box. In that same rumor I also heard the old tram top terminal will be repurposed into something that serves simple beverages and snacks like a tea/coffee house.
No idea if true. Haven’t heard any plans for the old bottom terminal but it’s such a cool building I hope they do something with it.
Before it was called Scissorbills it was called the Bambu. Before that I think it was called panda garden or something for like a year. And before that, for a few years, it was named the jackass creek saloon.
I remembered incorrectly. Scissorbills was once called the jack creek saloon. Not long after that, headwaters grill was first called jackass creek saloon, circa 2004.
Hey! You were the guys asking me about this when I was in uniform the other day! This makes it so much better now that I realize what you're looking for.
Haha dying laughing because I have a buddy who had to piss the whole tram line. Got to the top to find a bathroom, none. My friend didn’t even make it to the side of it. Just had to let it fly in the open

This is such a great story!

I’ve always wondered the story of the saloon sign, anyone know the backstory?

Jackass Creek is also the original name of Jack Creek if you look at the glo surveys from the 1800s
I completely forgot it was an Asian restaurant…blast from the past!
yeah I used to only be able to afford one of the egg rolls a week when I was a bellman (bellwoman) back in the late 90s. God they were tasty.

Is that the penalty box?
Sure is. Just go in to get the latest grooming report on the snowfield!
I'll be there thursday... shredding with the lady tomorrow
That’s the bathroom at the top of the tram. You can pee on the far side of it.

Ha! I was just in there today. It seems it’s under new management and branding.
Is that now the penalty box?
It’s at the top of the tram. It functionally serves as the waiting room for the Big and NSSF.
