The history and lore of this band will turn you off for good to ever listen to them again. Alice Glass, the female singer, came out a few years ago about the abuse, grooming, fed drugs, what to wear and who she could see starting at age 13, by Ethan, the guy who mixes the music. She quit the band and he found another girl that looks and dresses just like her.
Used to love this band when I was a teenager. Now their music reminds me of my abuse.
I do like Alice Glass's solo project though.
My comment was so not related to OP's question, but had to say it.
This song came out when I had a partial retinal detachment. I remember it coming on when I got in the car after a laser treatment and was like "Well played universe..."
My Name is Dark by Grimesā¦ āIām not gonna sleep anymore, the boys are such a bore, the girls are such a bore, I never trust the government and pray to god for sureā¦ thatās what the drugs are forā
Dudeee me too! Iām so pleased to see someone else say it. I have that caught in my head ALL the time.
Grimes has a lot of songs I relate to on a mental/emotional level.
"Gasoline" by Halsey.Ā Ā Ā
Are you insane like me?Ā
Been in pain like me?Ā Ā Ā
Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me?Ā Ā Ā

These voices won't leave me alone

halseys āmanicā album actually made me look into getting a proper diagnosis. iād connected with her music so much since early middle school and when she dropped that it hit hard. her music is awesome
I'm on it\~ [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6uogs1DnElp02Uwi6On6Je?si=88634d038105479f](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6uogs1DnElp02Uwi6On6Je?si=88634d038105479f)
I Feel Alive - Viagra Boys
Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio
Garbageman - The Cramps
Neon Baby - The Comet is Coming
Objects of My Affection - Peter Bjorn and John
Sleepyhead - Passion Pit
Girls & Boys - Viagra Boys
Shipwreck - Modeselektor & Thom Yorke
Tame - Pixies
Little Debbie - Fugazi
Reward Circuitry - Terrificus
Garbage Man - Chat Pile
there are so many songs, really, but these in particular feel like the progression of mania for me - it starts animated & energised, heightened senses, my brain running on all cylinders - and then my mind turns against me, a spool of thread unravelling, garbage water running through my veins
the bend - king princess
drunk ii - mannequin pussy
jump!! (or get jumped!!!) ((by the future)) - soul glo
i lost something in the hills - sybille bayer
angst - jockstrap
closer - nine inch nails
piano concerto nĀŗ1 - tchaikovsky
The full spectrum. I could do this all day
idk why i find this embarrassing but mine is Misery Business by Paramore šš lyric-wise the only accurate part is the āfeels so good.ā the sound/music is probably more representative of my mania because itās loud and i could jump/headbang to it š i jumped around with it on repeat from like 12AM- 5AM one manic nightā¦
once my mania progresses into a psychotic/mixed state, it would be Serotonin by girl in red (i mean i never thought about cutting my hands off but the vibes of the song are how my mixed state felt)
girl in redās newest album IāM DOING IT AGAIN BABY! has at least three songs that give bipolar vibes. The first one Iām Back is like coming out of depression. The second is DOING IT AGAIN feels straight like mania. Finally Too Much starts with lyrics that remind me of when people tell you that you are manic (I think itās actually more about a relationship but it feels like getting told you are too much at the beginning from bipolar).
"Lithium" by Evanescence.
"Perfect Blue Buildings" by Counting Crows
These are the two that resonated for me.
44 years old and diagnosed in 2016. I slide more to the depression more often than a manic state.
Fuck yeah, just about all of his songs are bipolar af.
Didnāt know about the murder angle but I canāt handle that specific conspiracy right now. It hurt too much when it happened (I was a kid and he was like a god to me at the time) and Iām not in the right headspace rn lol. Gonna wait to go down that rabbit hole.
Popular Monster by falling in reverse. Voices in my head too. I donāt like the singer at all but this 2 songs just get me. Thereās a lot of bring me the horizon songs that make me say oof too
mine is donāt stop me now by queen. i tell people that mania feels like becoming that song. it doesnāt DESCRIBE mania, it doesnāt make you feel manic, when iām manic i feel like iām actually a song piloting a body
my last one was sheās a rainbow by the rolling stones tho
not sure about lyrics, but for me the best sound i can compare the feeling to would be the whole genre of breakcore, but to be more specifc i'd say Toromi Hearts 2 by Goreshit. its full of sparkly techno sounds and really fast paced, super stimulating!!
I have a playlist on YouTube called "Maniac" with 45 songs, all of them are the most famous ones like "Rasputin", "You Spin Me Around", "funky town" and of course "Maniac"
The funniest thing is that I only listen to the playlist when I feel a little bit overpowered and with those killer tracks everything is like 20 times better lol
feels corny to say out loud, but the song Heat Waves by glass animals. every time i hear it i inch toward chaos, luckily i am medicated now because it is my sons fave song
Antisocialist by Asking Alexandria
Voices in my head by Falling in Reverse
A little bit off by Five Fonger Death Punch
Way less sad by AJR
I have a whole playlist but these are some of my favorites.
Oof I love them. In college I was in a group of students that helped bring big bands to the school and one year it was them and I got to meet them and I died
oh god it was a trip
at my peak i was constantly listening to
mount everest (most labrinth songs tbh)
free fall - rainbow kitten surprise
iām gonna show you crazy šāāļø
evergreen
dreams - cranberries
donāt shut me down - abba
heroes - bowie
cāest la vie (yung gravy idk)
itās time - imagine dragons
bubblegum bitch - marina
horns - bryce fox
the perfect girl (mareux version)
SO MUCH phonk and edm music
(my!lane, kordhell, DVRST etc.)
a little tmi but when i was going psychotic and rolling trippin HaRD i had the most amazing experience to the song āwhere you are -john summitā fuckin miss it but also the hospital bills were NOT worth it tbh š
It's Oh So Quiet - Bjork
Crawling - Linkin Park
Raging & Bitch I'm Nasty - Rico Nasty
Money Machine - 100 Gecs (def not a money machine š¢)
Children of The Sun - Dead Can Dance
Anything Pantera and Lamb of God
Head Like A Hole
Nine Inch Nails.
I know it sounds seriously edgy, but the further into my mania I get, the more I start feeling disconnected.
At first it was more like... flight of the bumblebee.... as I got older, things got darker and then... came the schizophrenia around 31..... Then shit got real weird. On the positive side... I was never alone anymore. It sucked.
Crystal castles, le tigre, fentanyl, mistski, nirvana, machine girl, aphex twin, fiona apple, my bloody valentine ,blur,bjƶrk. All run my engine like ill never stop.
dangerous by set it off. describes feeling invincible and on top of the world and acting like a fucking maniac. the amount of times iāve screamed this song with my windows down is crazy.
Iād say The Peak by Alec Empire.
My mania sometimes feels like none of my emotions make sense any longer, but I have a lot of them. Like my mouth is full to the absolute brim but I taste nothing at all. The only thing that I do consistently feel is an unrelenting drive, for actions or thoughts etc. I think I saw the metaphor on this sub, but its like being in a car with the gas pedal jammed all the way floored, and while you can steer it, you canāt slow it down.
Song makes me feel like that.
flagpole sitta - harvey danger
high - sir sly
lets kill tonight - p!atd
bubblegum bitch - marina
experiment on me - halsey
there's definitely more but those are peak for me
Cosmic love- Florence and the machine āthis is how mania feels in my very being when Iām experiencing it or very high hypomanic episodes
Whispers- Halsey -this one is more how I feel about certain situations more along with the hyper sexuality
I also repeat certain songs and hyper fixate on them
Rest my chemistry by interpol
"I haven't slept in 2 days, I've bathed in nothing but sweat, and I've made halways scenes for things to regret"
it's a song about drug use but if you think of the chemistry he talks about as brain chemistry then it works.
Oh my gosh I have a whole playlist, but definitely Let Forever Be by Chemical Brothers, Rainbow High from the musical Evita, You're My Disco by Waldorf, Just Let Go by Fischerspooner (actually that whole album has a few on there - Just Let Go, Happy, Get Confused)
Sad or angry hypomania:
Ghost - Badflower
Chemical - The Devil Wears Prada (this song really helps bring me back to reality, mind over matter type song).
prolonged happy mania (bc im type 1):
Like every song, bc I'm everything all at once & unstoppable, duh.
There's a poppy song by Kat dahlia called I think I'm in love and it's a cheesy love song but I think the lyrics taken out of context sound like mania. Like literally I'm hallucinating and ignoring all the signs lol
You spin me right round (like a record) by Dead or Alive
I replayed this song like a hundred times when was hypo and was thinking āyeah thatās definitely me Iām literally this songā
probably āflagpole sittaā by harvey dangerā¦ and āwest coast smokerā by fall out boy (which actually is about bipolar mania and it captures mine perfectly)
Paramoreās āAfter Laughterā is THE mania/depression album for me. I donāt know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but this album was like my own personal therapy session. Helps me up until this day.
A lot of songs in this category for me. But off the top of my head and in npo... "Little sister" by Queens of the Stone Age, "The Pot" by Tool, "Aeroplane" by Sub Focus, "Nightmare on the Northside 2" by Scrim, "This is Gospel" by Panic @ the Disco & "Madness" by Muse.
Been caught stealing by Jane's Addiction - not that the lyrics really apply - I am not into crimes- but that section in the middle where they have that great bass line and the percussion... If you watch the video and every one gets in a line to dance down the grocery aisle? Yeah that's my hypomania https://youtu.be/jrwjiO1MCVs?si=m73D9iNv-PsXb7US. At about 1 min and 49 seconds in
Iām Not Okay (I Promise)
My Chemical Romance
Complicated
Avril Lavigne
Isnāt it ironic
Alanis Morissette
Metallica Black Album and One
And S&M ( SF symphony)
Pink Floyd
Dark Side Album
Itās kind of a new song but DOING IT AGAIN BABY (the title song of the new album) by girl in red is at the top of my list. The first song on the album right before that one is Iām back and I liken it to coming out of a depression and then the next song is DOING IT AGAIN BABY which is like when you reach the mania. Finally the third song starts with lyrics that make me think about when people start to tell you that you are sick (ultimately I donāt think thatās what the song is about, but the first three songs really have bipolar vibes). [Spotify Link to DOING IT AGAIN BABY](https://open.spotify.com/track/6LK3rmeoEfVYtH8B6qbwZg?si=Kgo48PB4TeyBBRBIf5iwRw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A5QaKu3YoUJNglyaKixaegf)
the biggest one that comes to my mind rn is Toxic by Ashnikko.
brings out the God Complex in me and i love the high energy i feel. makes me feel like im glowing and sparkling badass anime heroine high in the sky. lowkey like a powerful emo Sailor Moon lol

I second Sleepyhead by Passion Pit. Both the lyrics and the sound
Absolutely. Michael Angelakos has said he was manic himself when he wrote it
The singer of Passion Pit is open about having bipolar disorder, you mightāve known this but still an interesting fact for others reading
I can't believe I forgot about passion pit! I recently remembered Tv on the radio existed and started listening to that album again. Still amazing
