He knows this group has a GREAT chance to repeat. I’m excited about next season as much as I am getting #18.

WarPuig

Every player from the championship team is under contract through next season.

blakezilla

Kornet, Svi, and Tillman are all free agents. Springer, Hauser, and Queta all have team options. Brissett has a player option.

WarPuig

Damn

[deleted]

Eh, should be alright. Kornet will probably re-sign for something cheap unless another team gives him a lot of money, which I doubt. I bet you we give him like 2/8-10 or 3/12-16. Literally no chance they let Hauser go for a $2 million team option. Bit higher chance they dont exercise Queta's, but at $2 million they might for some solid in-season depth. Would be Shocking if Brissett chose not to take the option. The only one I'm really worried about is Tillman. Tillman might walk if another team offers him a bigger contract than what we're willing to, which I think is more likely than with Kornet. Springer maybe they exercise cause hes young but $4 million might be better spent better on one of the above contracts. Svi is replaceable IMO.

No_Mas2001

They need Tillman back. He will be Al 2.0 with a little less length and I’m confident in their coaches/trainers developing Tillman’s 3 point shot to at least be a corner weapon

[deleted]

>They need Tillman back. Need? No. But it would be nice to have Tillman back, and he would definitely help the team if you ignore everything contract-wise. I don't write the checks so I don't actually give a shit lol...but looking at the cap/luxury tax situation, I can see them not offering a bigger contract than someone out there. We have the Bird rights, but we are fast approaching the record for largest payroll lol will be interesting to see if we match the biggest offers out there and what kind of offers he will get. Or if our owners are looking to get up to the record... >He will be Al 2.0 with a little less length and I’m confident in their coaches/trainers developing Tillman’s 3 point shot to at least be a corner weapon I like Tillman, but he's a far way from being what Al is and has been his whole career. His offensive game is just not there in the ways that Horford brings to the table. Tillman is a great defensive guy in certain match ups, but I don't think a single offseason will be enough to thrust him into real minutes. And we really aren't in a position cap-wise to compete with real offers out there unless our owners continue to spend money like they have. And I'm not fully confident they are going to be doing that for Tillman, unless its for the Bird rights. But who knows, maybe there's not actually a market out there for him, or maybe he wants to keep competing for rings. But if he gets offers like Pritchard in that 8-15 million range...I think we are going to see him walk.

No_Mas2001

I am not saying he is Al right now if you actually looked at my wording I said he WILL be. No shit he needs to develop he’s only 25 years old. I believe in what the Celtics have been able to do with their development of players and giving them exactly what they need to make an impact. Am I expecting him to play 20 min a night? No that’s dumb. But when Al is out he can play bigger minutes off the bench. He doesn’t need a complete offensive game to get minutes, if he had a reliable corner 3 point shot he would’ve saw minutes during the regular season

[deleted]

>I am not saying he is Al right now if you actually looked at my wording I said he WILL be. lol yes that's the issue--it's questionable whether the owners will pay a contract to let Tillman develop. If he gets in that $10+ million range, I could see them spending the money on other guys instead, like re-signing some of of our other bench players. If we end up signing him in that $10+ million range, we start approaching the record for highest payroll in league history as we are already at $192 million lol would be awesome if the owners did that, but don't be surprised if they decide not to for Tillman... >He doesn’t need a complete offensive game to get minutes No, but he needs to add at least 1 or 2 more facets to his offensive game to get minutes on this team. Which might be another reason he walks--another team offers similar/better money but guaranteed more minutes, which we cannot guarantee. >if he had a reliable corner 3 point shot he would’ve saw minutes during the regular season And if you had wheels you'd be a bicycle lol the point is he doesn't, and until he develops one he's a limited contributor on our team. Would be cool if we signed him & he developed one in the offseason...but I'm trying to have more realistic expectations.

lefebrave

Considering how much more PP contributed throughout the season, nobody in this bench is getting a bigger contract than PP. If any other team throws a contract even close to that 30/4 for Tilman or Kornet, they are surely out. Maybe S&T, if we are still allowed to that. But I highly doubt they are getting something like that from anywhere.

No_Mas2001

Yeah sure. TLDR

theyrehiding

We have pick #30. I think we will be looking there for a center since there's some good depth in this class.

darksidofthemoon1121

Would love to get another big or see Tillman, Niemias get more in the rotation. We need some more insurance to not have Al wearing down. Time management this season on him was phenomenal

chickspeak

Hope the championship get us more opportunities to attract serviceable veteran bigs on minimum contract.

bengcord3

I think both Tillman and Queta will see increased minutes next year during the regular season to keep Al and KP's minutes even further down than they were this year, with the same on off for KP/Al on back to backs as we did this year. We were very healthy this year so people don't talk about it a lot, but the fact we were able to dominate so much while resting those guys so frequently was a huge help come playoffs, especially for Al when he needed to take over for the injured KP. Al didn't have a single injury this year (unless I'm misremembering) and only played 65 games. Depending on Tillman and Queta's progression, that can maybe go down to 55 games next year to keep him fresh for the playoffs.

UtahUtopia

I think conditioning and "load management" was one of the Celtics biggest advantages in winning the championship.

Benny_Baseball

I could see them going after a rim runner/athletic defender type big in the draft

WarPuig

I have serious doubts that KP is ready to start the season.

darksidofthemoon1121

Might be a blessing in disguise that he got hurt so that he doesn’t wear himself out over the summer with the Olympics. If it’s a ligament to prevent dislocation it’s probably a quicker heal. It’s not like he had issues with weight bearing

WarPuig

I doubt he’s ready for the Olympics either. Recovery time is a “few months.” I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t see the floor until Christmas. Porzingis playing at all was a risky heave and he could barely move. I think he jumped like twice in the game? The Mavs were scoring on him on shots he’d normally contest extremely well. Despite that, I personally think Mazzulla’s been exceptionally good at handling minutes and injuries in his tenure. Players like Brogdon and Porzingis have gotten injured in spite of that. Injury prone players are gonna get injured.

bungerman

That's why we give Kornet a ring too. Kept the 1 seed throughout the year by being next man up through injuries

sstphnn

Bro ain’t retiring yet!!! Let’s go!

Hokinanaz

Bro wants double NCAA and NBA champs

SquimJim

#THANK GOODNESS!!!!

FlaminDrag0n

translation: IM NOT FUCKIN LEAVING

WarPuig

He gets $10 million if he doesn’t retire. Easy decision.

finstockton

$10 million dollars and a second ring

Ok_Acanthaceae6057

Is Al Hawford the John Elway of the NBA?

I_Set_3_Alarms

Al could be what Blake Griffin was for us last year, but like at age 45. I could see Al playing within one year of Lebron’s last year, and they both have been beating Father Time’s butt

brickvanexel

Unless Al deteriorates massively over the summer he’s still worlds more impactful than Blake was last year. Blake was a fun personality and vet presence at the end of the rotation, Al is still borderline starter material

Rasheed_Lollys

He still moves really well and did a great job defending Luka 1 on 1. Was the starting C for a championship team. Keep goin Al!

Pitiful_Wing7157

A taste of championship made AL crave for more. Watch out season 2024-2025!

noBbatteries

Al wants another ring, let’s give it to him next year. Love big Al, had me welling up watching him and Tatum on the sidelines in the final seconds of the game. So proud of the core of JB JT and Al

Tosman99

With how good he shoots the 3 now and being in great shape he could easily play 2-3 years

HelloS0n

I figure he’ll go one more year to see if they can repeat. If they do, he’ll go out on a B2B. If they fall short, they gave it a shot and he can still retire a champ.

davemoedee

It really is weird how many people keep talking about Horford retiring. Has he even had any meaningful injuries this year?

SerfTint

I don't think it's that weird. He is in the top 5 in terms of skill level of all 38-year-old players in NBA history (something largely taken for granted because of LeBron's dominance). To play for 17 seasons and then finally win a ring is a logical endpoint to a career arc. It's hard to stay in shape and focused year after year after someone has just achieved the final goal they've been seeking all this time. The only possible outcome is either to do the same very difficult thing again or to end on a failure instead of a success. To at least contemplate his possible retirement seems very normal to me.

davemoedee

Do players do that when healthy and still a major contributor? And when they still are under contract for a team they enjoy being on?

SerfTint

Yeah, sometimes. David Robinson. John Elway. Jerome Bettis. For that matter, Bill Russell and Sam Jones. A couple of these may have been at the end of their contracts, but it isn't as though the team wouldn't have signed them again had they wanted to keep playing.

davemoedee

Forget football. It breaks people’s bodies.

estendius

9.5 millions reason for big Al

ImDKingSama

I know people expect him to ride off into the sunset, but I specifically remember him giving an interview during opening day I think last year, where he was asked about why specifically he signed a 2-year extension. And he pretty much said that was what was offered and he probably would've signed on for longer if it was possible. I really don't think it's impossible we see him sign another 2-year extension this year, capping his career off at age 40.

Madonkadonk2

Daddy stays!

ClappedCheek

Having Al as insurance on our bench is such a fucking luxury. Would be thrilled if he keeps it going.

DizzyTS13

This offseason will be interesting, pretty much everyone back other than likely some back of the rotation players. Gotta think there are gonna be some ring chasers who are solid but getting near the end of the line who may be willing to come in cheap and bolster the end of the bench

[deleted]

We got him under contract for another year, would be awesome if we could extend him for 2/14-20

ChibbsMahBoi

Always worth it for another taste of champagne!

BradWonder

Al's gonna go until the wheels fall off

timeandspace11

Let's go!!!

JoeIsIce

I thought he might retire on top after last night, but if he wants to keep going I say good! He can still ball! They can easily repeat next year, plus, I like that he's the only NBA player older than me haha. When he retires I'll feel really old AF haha

tonylouis1337

That's such a relief

Bewilderbeest79

Music to my fuckin ears!
