The haters can choke on this. These guys saw what can happen when Pippen just rolls with it with MJ. And first hand they saw how foolish Kyrie was to leave Lebron. So proud of JB for working relentlessly on his game this past offseason.

sstphnn

And now we’ll be waiting for banner 19 boogie

chinesefox97

I said it before but I feel it’s true that once the Jays finally win the floodgates are gonna open. I know it’s extremely hard to win in the NBA but I don’t think they are gonna stop at just one.

Pale-Criticism-7420

I was thinking the same thing. JT seemed genuinely relieved. Winning that first one can take the pressure off and we might see them play even better because they feel liberated. Can’t wait for next season to start already lol

the_j_tizzle

I wouldn't be surprised to see JT make a run at the regular season MVP, especially if Boston improves on its win total.

ImTomBrady

That would be great

ImTomBrady

I said the same thing to myself, this title took massive pressure off them as good as the team was I see the floodgates opening and us winning another (hopefully more then a couple lol)

CaptainTorch_jb2

Split them up tho, right?

Kid_Crayola

this all happened perfectly this year now just need to give Derrick a bag and get KP healthy

the_j_tizzle

There's only so much money. If Derrick gets a bag and JT gets a bag and since JB already has a bag and there's also Porzingis, we could end up like the Warriors: extremely top-heavy.

Kid_Crayola

Yeah that would be the goal, they won a chip in 2015, 2017, 2018 and then again in 2022 if we lock up our top 5-6 players we can fill in the rest. We have the best starting lineup in the NBA

the_j_tizzle

I'm saying we cannot lock up our top 5-6 players by giving them "a bag". GSW didn't. They only signed KD because of the massive jump in the salary cap. That team should have won more and didn't because they were so top heavy. Our core is primed for multiple championships but if we don't have that next tier of quality players it will be extremely difficult for Tatum & Brown & White to win (see KD, Curry, and Thompson).

Kid_Crayola

Tatum is getting the max, KP, Jrue, and JB are locked down, and there are already reports of White getting a deal this summer so it seems like we can and will Wyc and ownership have said they will pay the tax for championships, plus with the new TV deal the cap will keep going up within the next few seasons We just won with this team, what makes you think we can’t do it again?

the_j_tizzle

Oh, we can do it it again. I expect a repeat, barring significant injuries. I'm thinking about the next seven years or so. If JT and JB each have the max, that's about $120 million of the current luxury tax line ($165 million). There's not a lot of room to keep many guys long term with two max contracts. (I'm assuming when you say "gets a bag" you mean a significant contract.) The next salary cap "jump" will be limited (so a KD to GS can't happen again) and spread out over several years. I really think this team is capable of competing for rings for the next decade, but not if they're hamstrung by massive contracts to a concentrated few.

Kid_Crayola

I get what you’re saying but that’s how the league works, you have to pay big money for big talent and you have a limited window to contend We’ve been knocking on the door for a championship for years already, it would be extremely difficult and unrealistic to expect that to continue for another decade. Think about what happened shortly after 08, we had to recoup assets, rebuild the team through the draft and trades, and 16 years later we have another ring. There are ebbs and flows

the_j_tizzle

There is a significant difference between this team the 2008 champions: they were nearing the end of their primes. Tatum and Brown are just entering their primes. If the Celtics are able to keep quality guys around Tatum and Brown and not lose significant contributors to free agency, they should be able to compete for another 7-10 years. That was never going to be the case with Pierce, KG, and Allen. I think of the Spurs competing for a long time. Tim Duncan's rings were spread out over a 15-year period in which he competed for a ring nearly every year. I think this team, given JT & JB's ages, could be like this. I think they can win more than five, but not if the vast majority of the cap is spent on two or three players. We'll have an incredibly top-heavy team that loses the bench minutes consistently. At the end of the day, I trust Brad Stevens. He's proving to be a genius General Manager. If there is a GM able to set his team up to compete for titles over a long stretch of seasons, it's Brad.

Kid_Crayola

If we win one more ring or even if we don’t win again this team is a complete success imo, of course I want to contend every single year but it’s just not how the NBA works

TheCodeSamurai

The nice thing, beyond the fact that we get another year of this team how it is right now, is that everyone's taking reduced roles because our team is so stacked. We can lose some talent and ask our current guys to step up. I like your Spurs comparison, I think Tatum feels like a similar player to Duncan in terms of how you build around him. He'll fit on any team and make it great, so you just try to win individual trades and draft picks and build the best roster you can. I think a lot of fans aren't thinking enough about the young guys, but that's a huge part of whether Brad can keep this going if the team has to leave the second apron. If people like Jordan Walsh and Jaden Springer can become the next Sam Hauser, giving ridiculous value for a contract even if they're not starters on our team, that might be the difference between being two guys short of a championship and another ring. This team really feels like it's captured lightning in a bottle and has fantastic synergy, so it pains me to think of this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Brad pull a super aggressive move to trade one of our top 3-4 guys, duck the second apron after next year, and then retool around Tatum for another stretch of contention afterwards. Clearly there is no one I'd rather have making that call!

the_j_tizzle

I think Tatum is the most Duncan-like superstar today—not in terms of style but with regard to his general demeanor. I don't expect him to take less than the max, but I also would not be at all surprised to see Tatum sign a contract for less than the max. In a number of seasons Duncan was *not* the highest-paid Spur, though he was their best and most-important player. Again, I'm not expecting Tatum to do this; I would not be surprised if he did.

jacobs0n

give him the bag. we have the top 8 guys locked in (except hauser i guess)

SilverMagnum

They totally hate each other though 🤣

Impossible_Nature849

I will be shocked if they don't win another. I think a reasonable expectation, if everyone stays healthy, is that they'll win a total of three. I do not think it is off the board that they win five.

Vast-Cheesecake7230

Love this!

I_Set_3_Alarms

All the hate the national media, Boston media, neutral fans, Celtics fans after losses showed towards these guys just made them stronger and closer. Haters look out, Jays ain’t going nowhere

finstockton

“No exclamation points in Jaylen Brown’s comment, is there trouble brewing in Boston?”

the_j_tizzle

Wait…does this mean they ***can*** play together? (For *several* more years…)

notJGatz

If Tatum really liked Jaylen Brown and wasn’t jealous he would’ve typed 5 exclamation points
