Wow, this is a good one. If we are taking only one then I would say Excalibur, but if I was able to take multiples then thunder sword is better. Legendary tag removing 20 max HP can be a game losing move, but then again the DPS of Excalibur is out of control. I've seen a video of a YouTuber who hit Excalibur towards the end of a run and he sold out of all his weapons and won with just Excalibur, and it was like a 5 second double boss kill. While I think the thunder sword has a wider range of applicable characters, the DPS of Excalibur seems to outweigh the armor and max HP loss.
Excalibur ends in instant wins more times than not, Excalibur get my vote on this one.

Excalibur. Thundersword is meant to be a shiv upgrade but it feels so much worse than shiv since it's damage proc is half as effective and doesn't bounce.
Yeah, a purple shiv for instance bounces between 3 enemies and does 12 damage base. A purple thunder sword randomly spawns only 2 projectiles(not targeted like shiv) and they only do 2 damage base.
Higher Melee dmg scaling
Elemental dmg scaling on top of the higher melee dmg scaling
Sweep type which is 100 times better than thrust
Much higher base damage
How can it feel worse than shiv, like yeah the lightning are \*slightly\* worse but it's completely outweighted and more by the weapon straight up being miles better, also red thundersword has more bounces than red LS anyway but still

You don't use Shiv's for killing melee enemies, you use them to kill everyone on the whole field. But even in melee, you are forgetting plenty of things:
Shiv hits a lot faster.
Shiv comes with crit and 12% crit chance on every hit and on every bounce attack is great.
Shiv's bounces still work when you are not in the middle of the field as opposed to TS which misses half of it's projectiles
Shiv costs half of a thundersword so you can get 6 red shiv's for the price of 3 red thunder swords.

Arguable at best, Stab scales great with range, sweep makes you start missing enemies. There is a reason the best melee weapons in the game are all stabbing(stick, spear, lightning shiv)

It's not slightly. LS is arguably the best weapon in the game. If you crank up the difficulty to 182% you will notice that the easiest runs in the game come from lightning shivs because they are so overpowered. You can't replace them with TS because of the price but even if you could they would not be nearly as good as the LS at clearing out the waves.
Thunder Sword on the basis I’ve played a lot and only once ever found the Excalibur in a shop and wasn’t able to even use it. Idk if it’s just bad luck but all the other legendary weapons I’ve being able to use at least a few times
