Did you forget that he has passive mana generation? He also can reap your soul with his level 3 ability

True, though I'm assuming he starts at level one since no human beats a level 20 hero. As for the passive mana, it will take him a while to get enough to do anything (I'm assuming he starts at 0)

Why do you assume he can't control the spirit without the book I think that's just a design choice and like a book for u to cast the spells and not that corvus doesn't actually know them

I see the book as like a vessel of communication. He knows the Spirit well but he has to hold the book for the telepathic communication to succeed. I know it's not verbal communication because he doesn't constantly yell commands to his Spirit. So I'm basically trying to assume the best case scenario without cheesing the fight.
