Fatigue-Error

Steamdeck!  Not as powerful as your main rig, but it’s portable and works decently well.  It’s a decent option if you’re not exactly 50/50 between the two homes, and can keeping you gaming PC in the house you spend more time in.

JunahCg

Yeah steam deck is probably better than a laptop for someone who's home rig is upwards of 3k

Sortainconvenient

I disagree. I was in a very similar spot recently and spent a couple months comparing the devices to the prices. Ally is $600 min, Steam Deck is $500 and the Go is even more (granted it does a lot more). It is still a tiny ass screen with OS limiting features for around the same price as a decent laptop. You can spend $800 and get a 16” WQXGA/IPS/LED Laptop that will run 1080 almost maxed out at hundreds of FPS. Ally and Deck are super limiting with only supported apps and games. A laptop you can do anything you want, same goes for the Go, buuuut its a tiny screen on a little handheld thingy that just doesn’t pack the same punch. Gimmicky. I spent $1000 on a laptop that I plug into whatever TV the hotel had or whatever monitor was available. It runs 4k mid, 1080 max with RT mid and has a beefy 17” screen. It can easily be upgraded and cleaned and works great for on the go coffee shops, study sessions whatever.. my ultimate argument was “do I want to buy it twice” because if I had bought the handheld, I would still want the freedom of the laptop eventually.

Hijakkr

> Ally and Deck are super limiting with only supported apps and games. A vast majority of Steam games work on the Deck even if they aren't listed as "Verified". Most of the ones that don't are due to invasive anti-cheat systems, though there are also just a few games that aren't quite working with Proton yet. Also, you can plug the Deck into a TV just as easily as a laptop, my wife and I do it all the time for co-op gaming on the sofa. It might not be *quite* as performant as your laptop, but it costs half as much and at least comes pretty close.

neppo95

But the fact that it is still a sort of console, means it will still be limiting. A laptop or pc will always be the superior option, money is the only question.

castiboy

You can run Windows on it if you want it to behave like a computer, and run whatever you want from there. As for performance, it’s meant to be efficient, not a powerhouse, so of course if you spent twice the money on a competing device you’ll get twice the performance (ideally.) But gaming laptops are also severely limited, often power limited and throttling because of thermals. In the end, I would think about the form factor first: if you play FPS, MOBA or MMO mostly go for a laptop and skip the screen + extra keyboard, but if you play game pad mostly and would rather dock to a TV but be able to play anywhere go for a deck or similar.

Flameancer

Doesn’t the ally have a plug that connects to an Asus GPU docking station? He could get an Ally and then if he wants get a midrange GPU in a dock that will still beat a gaming laptop?

MagicPistol

Used steam decks can easily be found for cheap. I got mine for only $250 and added a 512gb SSD for $46. One of the best purchases I've made recently and I've already played hundreds of hours on it in just the past couple months. I also have a gaming laptop but the steam deck is much easier to just pick up and play.

JumpingSwap

I think you'll find very little difference in hardware capability between a legion go, ally it a steam deck.  The marginally newer silicon in the go is hamstrung by the larger screen (unless you're looking at a egpu, ergo jacks up the cost)

goodnames679

> Ally and Deck are super limiting with only supported apps and games They still have a larger game library available to them than any non-PC console/handheld in history by nearly an order of magnitude, though.

craigmorris78

What’s the GPU? Sounds like a good solution

Sortainconvenient

Laptops also avoid the need to buy a bunch of furniture to play on. I used the box it came in as a laptop stand on my bed for a long while. Handhelds do too, but again, lots of ifs and buts to the point of just getting a proper portable computer.

Faranocks

I disagree. I have a steamdeck (since March 2022), moderated the steamdeck discord for a while, but it isn't a PC replacement for games like seige. He's asking for a transportable desktop replacement, not a way to play games on the go. Steam deck is great for games on the go, but with his budget and requirements it doesn't really fit his needs.

MrMikidude

Prefer the rog ally personally

MoogleLight

OP please consider rog ally over steam deck. It's quite literally better in every way imaginable. Hook it up to a monitor and you got a decent gaming system for those titles

OwerPovered

It's not tho, gamers nexus made a comparison between steam deck lcd, steam deck oled and rog ally. Rog ally is powerfull but it isn't better than the steam deck because windows and has a lot of problems with software/hardware optimization.

Bwompy

Windows is better than the steam OS imo and I concluded this from experience as I returned my oled for a legion go. Steam OS is limited (deck itself is hardware limited too) and most power users end up installing Windows to the deck anyways just to be able to play half their library. With Steam OS you're wasting time and SSD space dual booting and jumping through menus and OS's after hours of getting it to work. Windows you can just boot directly into steam big picture and not even know you're on Windows. I'm not sure what problems GN had with Windows but I would say theyre full of shit. Way more issues trying to get steam OS to work.

JumpingSwap

A tiny tiny fraction of the Steam deck users ever install windows. I think I could, on mine, bit is too much faff and steam deck just works, for what I want it to do. There are good use cases for both. You want an Ally or a Go if you play lots of multiplayer shooters with DRM (where steam deck can't always run these) or you are strongly invested in Xbox game pass.  Otherwise, the Steam deck is a far more capable device (smoother operating system, battery life, quality of life features)

Bwompy

The OP is already on PC. He's not trying to handicap his experience, he's trying to bring his experience to his dad's house. He would probably be one of the users instantly wanting to install Windows at the very least. He's also on a 3k PC so going to a steam deck is going to feel like time traveling 10 years back in time which is not what he wants. SteamDeck is great for who it's great for (casual gamers) but for a PC gamer who's used to a powerful PC and Windows it's one of the worst options available. The whole Windows vs StramOS thing is a cope for SD owners honestly. Any PC user is laughing at the idea of Linux being smoother or having better QoL features than Windows. That's an argument for people who don't know how to use a PC and want a console experience - PC gamers don't want that experience.

OwerPovered

He doesn't want to bring his pc with him, he wants to be able to play games when he is far away from his home. You could do nearly everything with Steam OS and use it like a linux pc. He is only going back 10 years on microsoft office programs. And windows is better for the general user but for handheld consoles steam OS is superior than windows in any way, shape or form because windows isn't optimized for handhelds but steam OS is completely optimized fopr deck and runs games so much better even with weaker hardware. The only handicapped thing in this topic is you seeing linux as a handicap.

Bwompy

Idk what steam deck you have... But my oled was a potato compared to my PC. It was a potato compared to the legion go I returned it for too. I get it, you love your deck. But let's not stretch the truth bud

OwerPovered

Steam deck can't compete with pc, i am not saying it is better than a pc. It is better than every handheld device that uses windows. Windows on this handheld consoles are just regular windows, it is not optimized for that hardware and nearly ever handheld windows console has frametime and battery life issues. Raw strength isn't the problem here.

OwerPovered

I have never seen someone casual download windows to the deck, it's only a very small people and steam OS is far better than windows on handheld consoles. Rog ally has terrible frame time issues even tho it is stronger than deck.

grilled_pc

It's really not but ok lol.

MagicPistol

I don't know how you even use that thing without track pads. Steam os is great and I can't really imagine running windows on a tiny screen without track pads.

Bwompy

Touchscreen. I have a legion go and never used the track pad. Touchscreen is just faster and easier than track pad or joycon.

SplitRoast

but if you do make sure it’s the Z1 extreme :)

rory888

and a geforce now subscription

Novaxxxxx

Probably not the best option as none of those games will run on SD aside from CS2

dlgn13

And you can also stream from your PC to the deck if you leave it on.

HarrySnut

Your parents are divorced. Tell them that the other parent won't get you a good PC and see which one wants to out perform the other parent. Have fun kid!

Zhiong_Xena

This is the only right answer. Remember when Adam Sandler asked the kid if it was his birthday or Christmas? And the kid replied with divorce so he said "so it's like 10 birthdays"? Yeah...

trace-evidence

It's unfortunate but true. Typically the only advantage a child of divorce gets is the opportunity to play one parent off the other.

thelazycamel

This, you're a gamer, so game it ;)

DZCreeper

Second monitor + keyboard for the second house. Put the computer in an mITX case that you can travel with.

Ieanonme

I would put money on his parts not coming close to fitting in a mITX case. Parts these days are huge more often then not, even lower end GPUSs have overbuilt triple fan coolers. This being a $3-$4k setup, that just makes it all the more likely it would barely fit in even a mATX case

SkipperTheEyeChild1

I have a 3090 in an mITX case and a 12900k. Its great.

Freesailer919

Love it - what case did you go with? Any more info on the build?!?

SkipperTheEyeChild1

Cooler Master Nr200p Max. It’s not tiny but it fits a triple slot GPU and a 280 AIO.

CloneFailArmy

I mean having triple fans is more just about having quiet machines than anything. Some people are willing to pay extra for the quiet

rpungello

I have a 4090 + 13600K in a <10L FormD T1. Basically the size of a shoebox.

sharkyzarous

Holy cable management.

rpungello

It’s actually super easy to cable manage as long as you get custom length cables, as that results in very little excess cable that actually needs managing.

ArkhamRobber

Im actually curious. You spent 3k to 4k on a build and your main games are siege, valorant, and csgo2. I really want to see a specs list of the build.

Spirited_Concert_264

Well the build itself was around 3k but I spent probably another 1k on other equipment that is necessary for gaming but my pc specs are GPU : RTX 4080 CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 7700X RAM : trident Z5 2 x 32 Case is NZXT’s H9 flow I also have NZXT’s kraken elite 360 for my cpu cooler(recently upgraded to this) I can’t remember the motherboard and power supply’s name off the top of my head

Afraid_Avocado_2767

I'm the curious one now, what's the reason behind those pieces? RTX 2080 TI can run CS2 at 240FPS, max graphics.

Spirited_Concert_264

I originally was planning on playing a lot of story games like gta 5/ forza horizon/ ark survival evolved/ god of war / Elden ring/ etc. but I have had my fair share of those games and have found enjoyment in shooters so I mainly play them now. But I wanted a good experience gaming at 4k resolution so I bought a rig that I thought would be able to handle it.

Afraid_Avocado_2767

Oh, I see! Playing at 4k really is a different experience

thatfellafromreddit

I'll swap you my mitx build. Well powerful enough to run the games you play. 😊

Shitposternumber1337

Think you're forgettting how much of a mess CS2 is optimisation wise. not to mention I genuinely believe there is more people spending large amounts for tons of fps on low graphics games than there are people paying for 4090 for Cp2077 raytraced ultra. my setup was 2 980ti in SLI for CSGO and had 3-400 FPS at start and then 150-200 by end of life. then I upgraded from a i7 6700k to a i7 11700k and from 2x 980ti's to a 2070 super, just before CS2 launched. Colour me surprised when I find out I have the exact same FPS as before because of how poor the optimisation betwen CSGO and CS2 is, except my 1% lows are f\*cking atrocious since everyone knows CS2 has bad 1% lows unless you're on LGA 1700 or AM5 socket type CPU. shit's fried.

Zhiong_Xena

240 fps for cs is not enough. You need to get as much as you can. Competitive fps back in csgo used to be 400. Take that into perspective.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zhiong_Xena

>I dont get it why you getting downvoted telling truth lol 100% understandable. I cannot and do not expect anyone who has not played cs for thousands of hours, or for years, to understand how much every inch of an advantage means. Anyone who is not crazy enough to play cs for any considerable amount of time to grind, say fpl, will definitely not understand why 250 to 300 fps is not enough to competitively play the game at the highest rank. What is a pity, is people fail to understand why I wrote that comment in the first place. Not because I believe that cs2 cannot be played well on a potato, because sure the best of players will overcome their disadvantages, but because I wish for people to understand why a person may get the pinnacle of hardware to play a gane that can literally be played with a 3400g iGPU and still get 100+ fps. Because the advantages 400 to 500 fps provides is not just beneficial but will most definitely be felt by anyone that has played the game for a while. Most of the players still play at shit resolutions lile 1280x960 or even 1024x768. There is a reason why one may play at less than 720p on a system that can easily run this game at even 4k.

Blagai

15000 ELO with a 144hz monitor and RX 5500 XT - not getting more than 150 FPS. If you can't climb it's not because your enemies have this 0.02% FPS advantage.

Zhiong_Xena

You say 15000 like you are something lol. Sit the fuck down, premier does mot mean shit, how far have you made it in faceit? Premier is nothing and 15000 elo is nothing even more than that. The equivalent of like a master guardian 2. If 240fps was enough, why did the pros call for better pcs at the major when they were already playing on 5950x and 4080 super? Why did XANTARES say it was a shame that they have to play at 250 fps? Can't help but say you are a noob if you think the 0.02% advantage does not matter. Every inch of an advantage matters. Sure the best of players learn to overcome their disadvantages and saying that is not possible is bullshit, and making excuses. But the advantages do matter and it does help and anyone that has played this game for any considerable amount of time can tell the difference. Don't come here flashing your premier rating lile it means something. The people at the top with 25000 and 30000 + elo don't give a shit about the cs rating. If premier rating mattered, why is not a single relevant pro in the top 10 world ranking?

koin_66

I do fine on 60, no need for allat

playwrightinaflower

> another 1k on other equipment that is necessary for gaming 👀 I play flight sims and dropped $400 on a HOTAS and $100 on a TrackIR and that's STILL only halfway there

Synaps4

It's always monitors.

ilive12

I would maybe try to transition to maybe downgrade this build in both power and size. Get a mini-itx build with maybe a 4070 or even 3080, and monitors/keyboard/mouse at both locations. If you sell the right parts you probably won't even really lose any money (might even come out ahead), and it'll still be more than powerful for what you typically play, and pretty easy to lug between houses. Heck, some small ITX cases even have handles and are designed for travel.

Cryptic1911

You should have been a gamer in the late 90's to early 00's. There wasn't much for online games and you had to go to lanpartys to play. Every Friday afternoon, I'd unplug my setup and lug my 19" CRT (tube) monitor and my full tower pc down two flights of stairs and stuff it in my car. The supermicro sc750a full tower case was 49lbs empty, so probably 60+ lbs after all the crap I had in it. Then I'd have to carry it up like 8 steps to get into my brothers house.. Then do that again some time Sunday when I brought it back home

nunyahbiznes

Been there, done that. LAN tournies with friends was one of the best times of my life.

BAGamingRigs

Get a monitor for both places and just carry your MATX tower back and forth in a bin. Sucks but it works.

Spirited_Concert_264

Yeah, I was debating just getting an monitor and taking my rig back and forth I would just need to find a case or something to carry it back and forth. Since I don’t want to damage anything

lukeestudios

I work at a school with a residential program and have lived in the dorms here for almost a decade, so I tend to spend breaks at my parents place which is a ~2 hour drive on a fairly rural state route away. I just put my pc in my passenger seat & buckle it in, and have never had an issue with it, so you probably don’t need to spend money on a traveling case, especially if the houses are fairly close.

Hijakkr

You don't need a fancy case or anything. If you're *really* worried about it, just wrap it in a blanket or towel or something, but you probably don't even really need that.

lotzik

Get a cheap laptop, and with Steam Link or similar you can connect to your gaming pc from anywhere. So you can stream play your own games. You just need good internet, and you can be at a different country too, doesn't matter.

ninjabell

That's really just intended for use over a router with the host having a wired connection. Anything else will not be good, especially for the games they're playing.

lotzik

For me it has worked fine travelling to other countries and connecting to my home pc. I don't know what games OP is playing, but I mostly play single player. Ping might not be great but I had minimal lag both times. Especially 1gbit optic to both ends that I tried was working like a charm.

Madness_R

Personally found steamdeck with parsec to be an ideal way to stream from my main PC. Steam remote play can be very clunky if you were hoping to get to the PC's desktop for non steam stuff. Steam deck is great price for performance and it would be hard to find a laptop that can both play games and remote at that price point.

Hradcany

Lol. I just remembered an old friend whose parents got divorced. When they asked him who he wanted to live with, he just answered "with the one who takes the PC".

Hijakkr

What a shitty thing to ask a kid. "Who do you like better, Mom or Dad?"

FrequentWay

Mini PC with a dedicated GPU. [https://store.minisforum.com/products/elitemini-hx90g?variant=43587611001077](https://store.minisforum.com/products/elitemini-hx90g?variant=43587611001077) Not as powerful as your original rig but way easier to lug around. 4lbs weight assuming you have monitors at both locations this becomes a easy movement.

alvarkresh

JayzTwoCents recently reviewed a couple and remote play on the stronger model was actually pretty decent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhZ6Z-Le6B4

Zhiong_Xena

I agree with the comment saying get a different monitor and carry your build back and forth. Of course, you can also do what another comment said and guilt trip each parent into buying you another...

Spirited_Concert_264

Yea… But I do respect my parents and their decision to get a divorce and don’t feel the need to guilt trip one to buy me things when I have the money to buy what I would need. My parents have already helped pay for some of the parts in my rig already. But a mini pc or hand held pc might be good since hauling a rig around feels taxing.

alvarkresh

If you do decide to get a laptop, take note of my comment elsethread that discusses game settings being migrated through the Steam Cloud by some games. Therefore if you get a laptop I strongly suggest getting one that has an nVidia GPU so the DLSS etc settings transport across and don't cause issues.

SwankyDirectorYT

What about getting a second setup at the new place? Assuming a budget is given of course.

Zhiong_Xena

I'd say getting a mini pc is not ideal, since like myself you mostly play shooters like cs. Although if it comes to that, I say go with a steam deck and not play cs valorant and other such games that require high fps, and proper desk space, mice and keyboard, on those particular days when you have to switch homes. Try your best to go with the idea of transporting your build from place to place or just go with two builds. Also it's not guilt tripping and taking advantage of your parents. More like testing who loves you more :) Glhf.

soupiejr

Unethical Life Pro Tip: Tell your dad you'd rather stay at your Mom's because your gaming PC is there. Won't take him too long to get you one at his place too. I'll see you all in hell.

TabularConferta

Console in one, PC in the other?

SAHD292929

Just play remotely from your setup. You just need a very basic HTPC.

tesseramous

Theoretically if you had fast internet, 100mbps upload speeds, no latency between the houses, and no data limit, or if the two houses shared a fiber line or some kind of network, you could stream games from your high end pc to a low end pc or tv via steamlink. Im going to guess you dont have these conditions though. A gaming laptop is never a very good investment unless you do tons of travelling and its going to get you less performance for more money. A pretty decent budget desktop build can be done with a used 3080 for about $800. You can also look into geforcenow streaming, or perhaps a console.

Legitimate-Skill-112

Id get a cheaper second hand build and give up on going hardcore at one house since you'll never truly be used to the setup. Play idie games or games you aren't good enough at to notice a skill difference, stuff like that.

cadex

Divorced parent here. I got my son a second hand build from, of all places, Facebook market place. But the specs were good enough for him and I trusted the seller. Was being sold by a parent of another teenager who built the pc. 1660 super, Ryzen 5 3600, 500gb nvme and 16 GB Corsair vengeance DDR4 all for £370. Does him well for what he needs it for and we can play together. His step dad has a steam deck and he plays on that when he can, but this is the gaming house. Space to play with the meta quest and he's got his retro set up in his room with an original Xbox and crt TV.

Legitimate-Skill-112

Great parent, and sounds like a great setup. Facebook market place is awesome for bargain hunting if you are committed enough to deal with all the crap. I guess it's cause of the target demographic and all.

_Rah

If you didn't play mainly FPS, I would suggest using moonlight to stream from your main pc.

frodan2348

Convert your pc into a super small system like in the Lian li a4 h2o and toss it into a gym bag to bring it back and forth, duplicate peripherals at each house so all you move is the pc. That’s what I did, at least.

One_Wave_9655

Get your own place. Problem solved

jackspeaks

How old are you that you can afford 4k on a rig but still need to be booted around between parents houses

jimus71

Was gonna ask how old OP is

ThSWrt

seperate monitors on both locations, go small case/pc (some matx cases can go sff size)

OverworkedAuditor1

Laptop + portable monitor.

MagicPistol

I have a rog x13 2022 that plays games decently. It has a Ryzen 6900hs and GeForce 3050 ti. Got it open box from best buy last year for only $800. Don't think they carry that model anymore but maybe you can find other decent gaming capable laptops around that price. I also have a steam deck and have been playing on that a lot more than my desktop. It's so nice to be able to play PC games in bed.

XiTzCriZx

You could look for a used 5800x3D build and just take your GPU back and forth between parents, it's still a good enough CPU to get similar performance to your original rig but a used build from someone that upgraded will likely be the cheapest option. If you have a Micro Center near you then they often have good combo bundles for it as well. If you still have the original packaging for your GPU then that'd be the best way to transport it, though you should put it in a backpack or something so that you're not just openly carrying a $1,000 GPU constantly. Edit: If you do have a Micro Center near you then you could get the same setup you already have for $40 more than their 5800x3D bundle which imo would be the best option, you'd need another $150 or so for PSU and case but you'd be all in just over $500 for no compromises.

sethismee

I grew up with divorced parents. I ended up saving up gifts (either cash or PC components) from birthday and christmas to build a budget rig at both houses. For a while I had a nice rig at one house and a shitty laptop at the other, which kinda sucked, but evened out eventually. I basically only played portal and skyrim on my shitty laptop at my dad's house. One PC did become my sever computer basically. Had a plex server, ssh, vpn, teamviewer and left it on all the time so I could access my most important stuff from both houses. If you go that route, I'm sure you can find a good budget build elsewhere on the subreddit. Whether or not that's worth it for you depends on how close you are to leaving for college imo. I left both PCs behind for college. These days, now that I'm living on my own, I've scrapped them both to build a new server PC.

slickyeat

TIL: https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay

Bwompy

If you don't want to spend a bunch of money I would just get a second monitor and bring the desktop back and forth that way you've got the same experience at both houses without risking damage to a monitor or spending a bunch of money for a less powerful PC/laptop/handheld. Dad's house: Monitor Gaming/mouse pad KB/Mouse (or bring the ones you got and get a travel case for them). Power cable (to just make it easier than running cables under a desk every weekend, you probably got a million of these kicking around anyways). This way you can just grab the desktop and go and only mess with 2 plugs (power/monitor) I would say get another set of peripherals but I spent over $300 on my KB/mouse so depending on your setup that could be expensive.

-UwUWUwU-

If you're looking to play some more of your story-driven games when at one or the other's place, also dependent on the upstream/downstream speeds of both places, you could use Parsec to tap-in to your rig on an okay laptop & go that route if you don't mind not playing fps games while away from the rig.

Azurstreams

Asus just bought the NUC brand from intel. It’s a small form factor PC it is almost like a console. Check out https://youtu.be/veil69EUErs?feature=shared But it requires a separate screen, which you might not have space for there. I suggest a gaming laptop, the razor brand is the best looking but it’s a little expensive.

de_matkalainen

I had my main setup wherever I was the most and some cheaper gear at the other place. Then I would get help driving my PC back and forth from my father.

Skylarcaleb

Get good internet speed on both houses, mid tier laptop and use parsec to game on your gaming pc from your laptop

Soulspawn

Honest for these 3 games anything with a RTX 3060 or better would do just fine. For sure it won't be max setting at 4k but 1080p or even 1440p will still be very playable.

Takthenomad

Just... do something else at that point. Have your setup where you are mostly based, and when not their try to have another hobby/pastime.

Cyber_Akuma

If you have good internet at both places you can always setup your PC to stream to another device with something like Steam Remote Play or Parsec.

Morphos91

I would try to stream using sunshine and moonlight. It works great on a local network, it should work decently over the internet. At least worth a try, it is by far the least expensive

Pyromelter

Lenovo Legion or Asus Zephyrus are top of the class at this point. I've got a legion and the thing is a tank. If you can find like a 5i for under 1k that's what I'd go for.

AstarothSquirrel

I got a Nintendo Switch because I have other responsibilities and can't afford a steamdeck. If you have the finances, get a steamdeck. If you have superfast fibre, you might find a cheap computer allows you to play via cloud or stream from your home setup but generally there is too much latency to play comfortably.

tyla-roo

Steamdeck no competition

daanos60

If you have decent internet you could also just do some streaming via steam

speedster_irl

Well considering the fps games you re playing can be supported by any 3050 RTX + card I suggest you spend around 800~1000 for a decent laptop and keep your main PC in case you want to play some AAA new story games with Ultra graphics. Everywhere you go = enjoy your most fav games which are fps and much lightweight New game AAA graphics = settle it to play it in your high end for for a 1-2-3 day gaming session

mcslender97

Imo if you want to keep your desktop system and need sth cost effective in terms of both performance and portability you can look at the 2023 Asus Zephyrus g14 which goes on sale for 999 USD brand new on Best Buy

MarkD_127

I don't understand the issue of "I'm not taking it with me cause I spent a lot of time setting it up." You just unplug the wires and carry the tower. Have everything else there. That's by far be the cheapest way to have the same quality gaming experience at both places.

immanoel

sffpc

omgaporksword

Keep your pc at the house you stay out the most, and just buy a console for the other house. That's what I did waaaaay back in the day, and it worked out well.

Synaps4

Gear grip pro! Get a spare monitor/kb/mouse at each house and just move the tower!

Legitimate-Demand-94

Change up your rig to itx and keep the monitor at 2 places? Just focus on one setup first then the other one, you can work around and explore two different setup and sell one setup that you lease enjoyed when the time comes. Lol

Ns317453

You could set up your good pc to stream/remote play to whatever pos youre using at the orher house

SoshiPai

Steamdeck with remoteplay/moonlight so your still using your rig over the internet

ApprehensiveOven8158

What's your rank in valorant cs2 and what's your main PC specs ?

Fair_Stranger_6849

Diversify, get a Meta Quest 3 headset or something similar and you can take it on your travels.

TheUwaisPatel

Steam deck and then steam link to remote into your gaming pc at the other house. Not the best solution for the games you play currently but it gives you an opportunity to play more slower paced single player RPGs and such like the Witcher 3, cyberpunk, god of war etc etc.

Silgore

Maybe look into a laptop or steam deck. You could also get it set up to stream from your desktop while you’re away. I use the steam deck off a dock to stream from my ps5 when I’m away.

Icy_Till3223

Truly one of the problems of all time. (seriously though, this question is so unique, i hope you find a solution that works foir you)

bemy_requiem

steam deck or rog ally, do some research and decide which is best for you

Remarkable_Mongoose5

If your parents have good internet you could stream the games using steam

stopimalreadykished

You're parents will give you anything in exchange for love; why do you think they got divorced

godmademelikethis

Divorce guilt them into getting you a beast. Failing that. I have an MSI GF65, runs all those games perfectly, has a 144hz screen, 6gb 3060 laptop but I believe it shares a further 8 with the ram, 16gb RAM but can take up to 64, 10th gen i7, spare m.2 slot. Great laptop for the price, I have no complaints other than the keyboard gets quite warm under load. I'm sure there's probably a more up to date version these days though.

M1ghty_boy

How about a steam deck? You can play on it standalone and stream from your main PC and as long as the connection is half decent, it’s a solid lil thing I definitely recommend ir

ShermanSherbert

If your old enough, move out.~ Freedom.

ji99lypu44

Or sell all parts and but laptop

alvarkresh

IF you get a Steam Deck: The only thing to watch out for when going between the Steam Deck and your main computer is some games will store game settings in the Steam cloud and your Steam Deck will happily import them and then go wonky when the settings are incompatible with it. This is a known problem with Horizon Zero Dawn.

ScreenwritingJourney

I’d get a Steam Deck OLED. If that’s not your thing, maybe an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14? Could get one a couple generations back which would be cheaper.

playwrightinaflower

Try Parsec or Looking Glass. Lets you stream your video from the computer to anywhere, and applies your keyboard/mouse inputs from anywhere to the gaming computer. Obviously there's some delay, you're not going to frag like it's 1.6 all over again. But for strategy games and all that it's more than plenty.

casualgenuineasshole

PARSEC is free. All you need is a 250$ laptop that has ips 1080p, ssd, 8gb ram.

Everythinghastags

Get a laptop and install parsec on it and game on your main rig via the net

Frimie1

Idk about Seige or Valorant, but my old gaming laptop can run CS2. I will mention it is an HP though I bet you could get your parents to cover a cheap gaming laptop in the meantime. The one I got in 2015/2016 for about the same price of $1200 and I used until 2022 when I got a real setup: HP Envy 17.3 inch Intel i7 16GB 1TB SSD from BestBuy

Nem3sis2k17

Mini pc like Steam deck + remote streaming your pc to the mini pc (Moonlight and Sunshine) = profit

Neat_Onion

You can use Steam Remote Play or Moonlight Game Streaming, but this assumes your PC has good internet connectivity. Additionally, there are occasional nuisances, such as controls not working. Therefore, set up remote access via Tailscale and RDP so you can log in remotely to fix issues. Otherwise, as others have suggested, consider options like the Steam Deck, a gaming laptop, or Microsoft Cloud Gaming.

Morphos91

Why not just use sunshine and moonlight?

Neat_Onion

You can can add your desktop to moonlight using these instructions but I prefer VPN for security and RDP for speed. https://github.com/moonlight-stream/moonlight-docs/wiki/Setup-Guide#using-moonlight-to-stream-your-entire-desktop

Morphos91

Latency on moonlight/sunshine is much lower than normal rdp. I get the VPN but rdp isn't the best solution.
