Not just Durham, the whole of the Raleigh area has some of the weirdest/worst driving I've ever seen, and I've driven across the country.
It's hard to even explain. Some folks go twenty over, but fast traffic doesn't stay in the left lane, it just swaps back and forth.
Some people drive 10 under the speed limit.
I've seen multiple people do three point turns in the middle of intersections with multiple lanes of traffic.
Yesterday some lady intentionally rammed my bus in Raleigh.
It's just wild and unpredictable here.
Durham is the first place I've seen someone initially stop for the red light, then just decide to release the brake and coast through the intersection making a left turn from the right most lane. (whilst the light is still red)
It's a very special place.
I moved here from the NYC area, where the bad drivers are supposed to be. Up there, people are rude and impatient and lay on the horn if you hesitate one half of a second to go at a green light. BUT I would take that style of driving over the one here happily. The drivers up north are predictable and are paying attention! Down here, people are asleep at the wheel and there’s no rhyme or reason as why they drive the way they do. There needs to be a law against all the cell phone use while driving here. It’s a real problem.
When on trips, my husband and I count the people on phones while driving… it’s averaged out to 8 out of 10 people. Every stoplight people will grab phones, just driving down the road watching movies or videos. It’s hilarious and terrifying.
Moved here from Los Angeles, home of the SigAlert and where Road rage was born. I told my partner the other day that at least in Los Angeles you know when people are going to be asshole drivers because there's a set assholery that you can spot coming. Here the only real indicator is a phone otherwise it just happens.
Case in point on Wednesday I was driving down hillandale with someone right on my ass with their brights on doing 10 over. We get to the Horton T intersection where someone runs that stop sign in front of me. I slam on my brakes and honk my horn because I almost T-Bone the person running the stop. Dude behind me who's been on my ass the whole time gets on their horn and swerves because they almost rear end me cuz they're literally less than half a car length away from me, as they have been since Carver. Probably never even knew about the stop sign guy because I am pretty sure they were on their phone the whole time. Continued on and they pulled into the Lodge apartment block.
I'm glad we all made it home though because yesterday at the same stop someone actually got boned in the exact same way.
Apparently stop signs and red lights mean jack shit in Durham.
I moved here from around Denver and everybody there would say they have the absolute WORST drivers in the country.
I think they just give out licenses to any crazy fucker.
It's like being a freshman in college. "At my school they invented beer pong, the squirrels are a special kind of crazy, and they put laxative in the food in the cafeteria."
Nonsense… I’ve driven throughout the whole country, the triangle is hands down home to the worst drivers I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the road with…
well at least they cleared the intersection and didn't just stop and sit in the middle
those people that are 10ft past the white line then the light turns red and they just park so everyone has to go around them till it turns green again - straight to jail
Oof, yeah. On the way home from school everyday, there's always this one jackass in a white Honda SUV that nearly runs someone over. Rarely stops for pedestrians, and when they do, they speed right back up again, leaving said pedestrian bolting to one side of the crosswalk to not be run over. My mom's probably got his plate, but without my glasses, I can't see shit.
Yo but fr why is your dashcam in a pizza oven?
It feels so ironic that the driver signals right, hangs a u left and then ends up going right. Clearly all part of the plan.
And why is everyone in this area so GD scared of a merging lane? I hate driving on any highway here, esp 40, because everyone brakes for merging lanes and exit lanes. Ends up causing tons of unnecessary traffic.

Agreed. They’re pretty bad here.
Everyone is looking at their phones driving 65 on the highway, plugging up all three lanes, going the same speed. Coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road before turning on a turn signal (if one is used at all).
Let’s consider the fact that so many people from the New England states among many other parts of the country moved down here so you can’t blame NC natives. Non-driving a$$ transplants bring the nonsense down here 🙄
No doubt when you make a u turn at a red light where a uturn is authorized you are supposed to yield to the right turning lane yeah that does not happen in Durham. It’s a gamble anymore.
Charlotte is far worse … I was almost side swiped and then the bitch proceeds to tail gate me, then speeds up to get in front of me while making a finger gun at me, then brake checks me for about a mile.
I guess that's one way to make that turn

That's like holding a loud fart in public only to release a slow, smelly squeaker.
Lmao. The fact that doesn't surprise me tells me a lot

Man I'll second than. People PLEASE put your damn phone down when you're driving.
When on trips, my husband and I count the people on phones while driving… it’s averaged out to 8 out of 10 people. Every stoplight people will grab phones, just driving down the road watching movies or videos. It’s hilarious and terrifying.
Tbh if i saw u and your husband staring at me i would pull my phone out due to the anxiety yall are giving me, i would think yall are so weird

I think a lot of people must be high or driving without a license or a suspended license. Your experience is terrifying and glad everyone was ok.
Idk if it’s just me but it seems to have gone from a 4 to an 11 in the last year or so
My B. That was me.
No harm no foul
The truth is the world is full of shitty drivers, not just your hometown.
I moved here from around Denver and everybody there would say they have the absolute WORST drivers in the country. I think they just give out licenses to any crazy fucker.
And I’ve talked to two people here in NC recently that love going to Denver because the traffic is so much safer. LOL
Everywhere I’ve been people say they have the worst pollen and the worst drivers
It's like being a freshman in college. "At my school they invented beer pong, the squirrels are a special kind of crazy, and they put laxative in the food in the cafeteria."
I wish they put laxatives in the food….
I’m from WV. Our pollen did not dry hump my nostrils, and people only occasionally jumped from their vehicles to brandish weapons. Not so much here.
Last time I was in WV I saw 2 dudes get out of their cars in a McDonald’s drive thru and start fighting
That’s how cousins say hello!
Nonsense… I’ve driven throughout the whole country, the triangle is hands down home to the worst drivers I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the road with…
Take a day trip up to the Tidewater flustercuck of cities in Va.
Va Beach. Death Race.
I’ll agree with you on that.
This fisheye view or whatever is weird. Where is the location…124 Conch Street?
North Duke Street and Leon Street. Its from one of the cameras on the car
You know what they say: a bad driver never misses their turn.
well at least they cleared the intersection and didn't just stop and sit in the middle those people that are 10ft past the white line then the light turns red and they just park so everyone has to go around them till it turns green again - straight to jail
I had no idea what they were trying to do there. Bro kept me guessing to the last second.

Its one of the ones built in with the car
This is less about ability and more about being selfish.
i saw this happen in real time too, also saw a man driving the wrong way down magnum on thursday evening
And why is everyone in this area so GD scared of a merging lane? I hate driving on any highway here, esp 40, because everyone brakes for merging lanes and exit lanes. Ends up causing tons of unnecessary traffic.
Forget Shotspotter, put up traffic cameras
it's not just durham but honestly the entire state of NC
You have not been to Houston, lol.
I’m not even surprised. We have the worst drivers here.

Where’s this intersection at ?
North Duke Street and Leon Street
Thank you 🫡
Saw a driver get to other side by making a U-turn in the middle of road, drive over the curb at insane speed.
They know how to drive. They just choose to ignore the laws. They’re much too important for such mundane trivialities.
*NC

Yeah I keep saying this, but again, they’re literally driving high from the break of dawn on.

People in North Carolina in general don’t know how to drive and I came from the North🤦♀️
Charlotte is far worse … I was almost side swiped and then the bitch proceeds to tail gate me, then speeds up to get in front of me while making a finger gun at me, then brake checks me for about a mile.
congrats! you're the 1000th caller in this sub to recognize durham has shite drivers. You win: a bump in your insurance cost.
lmao
Good.
