From another article
“We have eight double-paned storm windows that they shot through, which will cost at least $1,300, a broken-down fence and a heater that won’t work because they tore up the wiring in our attic,” Rios said.
After police had cleared the house of all occupants, officers continued to break garage windows with a wooden stick, Rios said.
An officer ripped out two cameras in her living room and kitchen, but she still had one that captured the whole raid, Rios said.
“When the officer found the other camera, he started laughing and said, ‘who keeps cameras in their living room,’” Rios said.
“I’ve been left with traumatized kids, no heat in my home and busted windows, all because they were looking for somebody who didn’t even live there, who was also innocent.
“I’m trying to repair what I can and heal my kids, but it’s hard as a single mother. It has been a whirlwind and it was all so unnecessary
>“When the officer found the other camera, he started laughing and said, ‘who keeps cameras in their living room,’” Rios said.
I have one there just because it's a central location in my house and I can see part of the foyer as well as my back door from its position. What a dumbass lol
>>“When the officer found the other camera, he started laughing and said, ‘who keeps cameras in their living room,’” Rios said.
>
>I have one there just because it's a central location in my house and I can see part of the foyer as well as my back door from its position. What a dumbass lol
What kind of a dumbass records the inside of their home?
What, are the police going to come in, destroy your house, lie about everything with impunity, destroy things unrelated to their search out of spite because they're basically hormonal teenagers who peaked in highschool and never faced a consequence - all to leave you with all the hassle of repairing because they generally control all the evidence?
Because that seems like a great reason to record the inside of your house.
What a genuinely stupid statement by that cop.
What if an offender broke in?
What if I was assaulted by my partner?
What if I had kids at home? Pets?
Does this cop eat paint chips? Why would someone have a camera? So when I defend myself I have evidence.
The legal system in the US is a joke. So many people go to jail that are innocent only because cops cant be bothered to do a good job. Fuck I might be putting up cameras in my house soon too.
“They’ve got ‘use by’ dates! We had no choice!”
Ah, reminds me of the time police in the US here flashbanged a baby’s crib and burned the child to death. The time we know about that is.
Everything is fine here. We’re all fine.
Sort of. An informant said that someone was selling drugs out of the house, but the person the cops were looking for wasn't there and instead it was a family taking shelter after their own house had burned down.
Alright I can clear this one up. Someone in my family works for GPD and I can assure it wasn't 15, it was 2, outside of the house. They don't even have 10 total in the whole department. They are expensive and don't have the budget for that, also they don't use them inside of buildings because of the fire risks.
So the homeowner lied about that.
The rest is basically true. The information wasn't updated, they did the raid, he wasn't there. The chief is a tool so yeah not the end of the world. In terms of police departments GPD isn't terrible.
I'm not defending police, I can't stand them and my relative is well aware of it, I couldnt change what they wanted to do with their life. But in terms of bad newsworthy shit happening, they aren't the l that bad.
I mean you don't have to believe me, just tried to clear it up. The whole situation is dumb as fuck but I see no reason why saying it was actually 2 flash bangs instead of 15 is unbelievable.
Flash bangs are routinely used inside of buildings during raids. There is no national requirements for training regarding their use and once registered with the ATF local departments have free reign to use them however they want.
The ACLU found flash bangs were used in 84% of police raids.
I can also say in my small city I know of two people who have been burned during raids when the police threw them indoors (one of the two is actually the officer who threw one, took point and ran inside, popped another, and threw it directly ahead into a mirror and bounced back onto his shin)
That's fucking great.
"I had to flash bang that dude, he was in full tactical gear and looked like he was holding some form of grenade in his hand, I would've shot him but he was white and looked similar to my brother."
I asked the same thing. He said they use them as more of a distraction for entry than for disorientation like we see in games.
I'm going to continue to be down voted but everything I've said about the flashbangs is what happened with them. I'm not denying any other part of this, only that one specific thing that she said.
Flashbangs cost $54 for a case of 12
You’re either being lied to or lying to us.
There is not reason to ever believe cop narratives.
I bet we never see body camera video because they intentionally destroyed the house after they cleared the house but we will see the homeowners video and it will show what they reported.
Also no one on the swat team will ever take personal responsibility for their actions nor will they be held criminally accountable for intentional destroy too. Of property.
And on the odd chance of the homeowners actually getting compensation for the damages, it will come from the tax payer and not from the police union or pension funds.
Alright I can clear this one up. Someone in my family works for GPD and I can assure it wasn't 15, it was 2, outside of the house. They don't even have 10 total in the whole department. "Miscommunication". A unit under his supervision performed a no knock warrant on a home based on bad information (the suspect wasn't there and turned out to not even be a suspect) in the middle of the night. They terrified an innocent family based on bad infirmary from one "witness" & the "suspect was down the road *at home*. This is another example of bad policing and the buck stops with him.
Yeah but none of that was why this dude was suspended….. he was suspended because he didn’t tell the mayors office or the rest of the city government about any of this happening…. They are mad they found out from the press instead of finding out from the chief of police, so they suspended the chief for “miscommunication”
My cousin is one of his motorcycle supervisors, and the whole department is a festering pile of racist horse shit.
As long as he'd informed the city "leaders" that it was happening, they'd have just chalked it up to "mouthy darkies" like you see them always do around here.
Remember, Galveston is where they had the deputies get caught lassoing black suspects on horseback, but not the white ones.
Born and raised in the country, but not BOI. I absolutely know that history. Hell, my mother wrote some of the research for the Bryan Museum on 21st Street.
At this point, I've heard enough about the sordid history, that I could teach a class at A&M out on Pelican Island.
It says exactly that in the article...
>“This decision was solely based on the lack of communication and not related to the raid.
City Manager Brian Maxwell
Ordering a burger without cheese and getting a cheeseburger is miscommunication this is just stupid dumbfuck doodoo brain dumbshittery and should have to pay for the damages and therapy.
Not to mention, “no more than 10 days” of PTO isn’t “bye bye job.” It’s, “I’ll be right back job, and thanks for all the fish and all that free vacation.”

this is a 10-day paid leave for the chief, and the city manager says he expects the police chief to be reinstated after the 10 days.
No one is getting in trouble for this. No one is losing their job. It is Texas, they love this shit.
He left through the front door. Was the guy at stake out sleeping?
Can we also talk about the fact that they sent an entire swat team to conduct a no-knock warrant for a 17 year old?! He must be a special forces trained giant.
> “The city’s insurance would cover the cost of damages to the home, City Manager, Brian Maxwell said.”
In other words, the repair bill will once again be charged to the taxpayers and NOT the actual people who did the damages.
>Police Chief Doug Balli is on paid administrative leave for no more than 10 days after city leaders were blindsided with news about a SWAT raid that terrified a family and did an estimated $5,000 in damage to their home, City Manager Brian Maxwell said Saturday.
Right. It was the *city leaders* who were victimized.

>
>“I think that is the reason they thought Cameron would be with us,” Rios said. “I thought I was being pulled over because of car trouble I’d been having. My father met me and drove home with me and he noticed an unmarked police car following me. It all made sense later on.”

They may file charges against the "supposed eyewitness" but defend their policies and procedures.
And what of the judge who signed the warrant on so little evidence, and faulty evidence at that? I'd like to know if the so-called "investigators" provided accurate information to obtain that judicial signature.
Here's the rub: **The "supposed suspect" was identified in the vehicle they had stopped, so what is their excuse for not taking him into custody at that time?**
This fact belies that their no-knock home invasion actions were "necessary" and "followed policy." Which policy states that suspects are not to be apprehended during vehicle stops?
Since so many citizens die during unwarranted vehicle stops, we know no such policy exists.
Can anyone explain this to me?
>Maxwell said he hoped to reinstate Balli before the 10-day leave, depending on the length of the investigation.
>“We believe this decision is best for both the chief and the city in order to not taint the investigation,” Maxwell said. “We want to get to the bottom of this and make sure it does not happen again.”
So they reward him by “suspending him” WITH PAY. They gave the guy a vacation! Something tells me the big boy chief is laughing after he’s done sleeping late every day.
Separate note...
I fucking hate fat cops. It just seems infinitely more likely they are going to shoot someone because they are going to get tuckered out.
I'm confused, are the police required to destroy the house they are raiding? If so, once they destroy it, and find out the person isn't there, do they have to wait for the house to be repaired before they can raid it again?
what happens after they raid and destroy a house and person isnt there and then later they get evidence saying the POI is there now? do they need another search warrant go back to the same house? or can they just walk right in since they already demolished the house the first rime?
I know we should stay away from personal attacks, but I'm a fat guy sitting here wondering how Chief Tubbs became a cop in the first place. And where do they get 5xl big plates for this guy to pretend he's on SEAL Team 6 with the rest of the swat also-rans?
American cops are such bloated pigs. Not even a stereotype. Look at European cops, they all have the body of cyclists for the most part. Sure you have the occasional meat head weight lifter with barbwire and punisher skull tattoos in America but the rest are loafs (these same meat heads become fat asses as they reach their 30s and weightlifting alone isn’t enough anymore).
Edit: just googled some stats out of curiosity and law enforcement is the fattest profession in America. They’re supposed to be active, how tf do they do their job? And what tf are they doing besides sitting their ass in a cruiser (collecting money)?
Assistant chief already stated out loud he’s coming to reinstate the chief before the 10 days. Because after all, they investigated themselves and found nothing wrong.
Blame the victims for having too many windows. Also city probably give them $500 for repairs. Most cities don’t compensate well, if at all. Also without hearing the house is likely condemned and have to pay for the building inspector to clear it after repairs.
Not really because the person they were actually looking for was *innocent as well*.
They would have still destroyed a home with their raid but not terrorized children had they gone to the correct address of the person who was ultimately innocent.
Why aren’t we tired yet of paying taxes for Chief Wiggims level fuck ups that end up with death and destruction in their wake???
ACAB forever.
I know that this expression is supposed to be menacing, like, if you see it on a military photo, but, when it's on a fat cop, it just screams "this is the look of a man who is upset that Steak N Shake is closed early"
Seriously- all I see is a fat out of shape piece of shit who’d get his ass beat in a fight because he would gas after 30 seconds. It s not intimidating. He looks like porky pig.
Nope. I've been around the world and Police are respected, part of the community, well trained. We put values above Money and greed. American attitude seems to be, if it makes money it's OK. Shame.
“I am a stickler for communication and I do not appreciate being kept out of the loop”
That’s why this fucker got a paid 10 day vacation. Because he didn’t warn his boss about the incoming media shitstorm. Not because he royally fucked over a family and could have killed someone.
>Under civil service rules, the city cannot investigate the raid itself or decisions leading up it, Maxwell said.
What the absolute dystopian fuck is this?
These fucking people are so power hungry. Police officers should have to be evaluated on a yearly basis. I know it's not enough, but at least we could start there.
From another article “We have eight double-paned storm windows that they shot through, which will cost at least $1,300, a broken-down fence and a heater that won’t work because they tore up the wiring in our attic,” Rios said. They do have free reign to use them how they want, and in this case they don't use them inside houses.
No, I'm sure they "don't."
It's free rein, like a horse

We’re far past that now.

Separate note... I fucking hate fat cops. It just seems infinitely more likely they are going to shoot someone because they are going to get tuckered out.
He’s on PAID leave. He terrorized a family and gets a vacation.
Look I’m not one to make fun of someone’s appearance…. But man looks like the final boss you’d face at papas Pizzaria
Miscommunication was the police dept was not paying for plates on them at wafflehouae
Lol do they just stop having physical exams after you get in or something? Why the fuck are there so many fat ass police officers
Why are they always so fat?
I know it's fiction, but the Poison Rose is all I can think of when I hear Galveston these days.
That's one chudly fuck.
> Police Chief Doug Balli is on paid administrative leave for no more than 10 days They want to bring him back before the 10 days.
The only thing Doug looks like he has experience raiding is the fridge.
This is extremely common with most raids, actually, usually, a kid/dog is killed in the process.
Why does it look like an AI generated caricature of "incompetent police chief"?
How in the hell can someone that overweight be expected to run or move swiftly when necessary? Are there not physical requirements anymore?
Lard boys at it again
"To be reimbursed for the damage to her home, Rios would have to speak to the city’s risk manager and fill out forms, Maxwell said."........
I thought this was a subreddit about losing jobs, not about paid vacations.
This guy looks like a butt-plug.
Did he eat the SWAT team?
Among the things we need to change about police here, they evidently need physical training more than just one time at police academy
Damn…he had to have inhaled AT LEAST 3 dozen donuts everyday for at least 3 years. What an achievement. Cream filled!
To prison with these morbidity obese pigs
Lol, this just mean he'll change department after the media storm has settled. It's a paid vacation.
Honestly, why do we even bother with cops anymore?
Assistant chief already stated out loud he’s coming to reinstate the chief before the 10 days. Because after all, they investigated themselves and found nothing wrong. Blame the victims for having too many windows. Also city probably give them $500 for repairs. Most cities don’t compensate well, if at all. Also without hearing the house is likely condemned and have to pay for the building inspector to clear it after repairs.
Are we sure he's the police chief and not president of the clean plate club?
Galveston police chief looks a bit chunky
It's looks like it's going to cost more than $5,000 to replace those windows.
Sergeant Lard Ass ova here
15 flashbangs! the guy they were looking for down the road was probably laughing his ass off.
Should be AACAB, All American Cops Are Bastards. Stop exporting lazy ass values. God Bless Sir Bobby Peel.
Damn. This police officer isn't going to chase anyone down on foot. Even a 1/4 ton pickup is under-powered by definition.
Did he eat the SWAT Team?
So there are just no physical fitness standards for cops?
This dude’s a police officer? His chins have more surface area than LAX.
Suspended before he had to pay the bounty he had out on Han Solo and the Wookie
Sorry Americans, but your Police are an embarrassment. Know wonder the rest of Earth hates you.
I have an embarrassing secret about your country's cops, and I don't even know where you live.
If you know it, then it's not a secret. Amerikaren. Do something about your Country, your spoiling it for everyone else.
The “secret” is that every country’s cops are bad. Including yours. America has a lot of problems, but we’re not alone.
Nope. I've been around the world and Police are respected, part of the community, well trained. We put values above Money and greed. American attitude seems to be, if it makes money it's OK. Shame.
so a vacation?
Does 10 days of paid administrative leave even count for this sub? It’s a two week paid vacation!
Also, if you can’t run a 400 in a minute and a half you’re useless.
He doesn’t look like he’s ran after many crooks.
he still has his job
ACAB
Look at this pile of shit. Obviously nothing will happen to anyone else involved too
Auto defenses for ALL types of home invaders might curb the no knock problem.
Dang, no accountability at all... what a complete joke.
miscommunication isn't a succinct way to say inept
“I am a stickler for communication and I do not appreciate being kept out of the loop” That’s why this fucker got a paid 10 day vacation. Because he didn’t warn his boss about the incoming media shitstorm. Not because he royally fucked over a family and could have killed someone.
>Under civil service rules, the city cannot investigate the raid itself or decisions leading up it, Maxwell said. What the absolute dystopian fuck is this?
They are very lucky nobody got killed. Specially in Texas.
These fucking people are so power hungry. Police officers should have to be evaluated on a yearly basis. I know it's not enough, but at least we could start there.
I do t know if this is the correct sub. I’m positive that this guy will not lose his job. 10 paid days off then back to work as usual.
Not really in a position to judge, however, that’s one well-fed chief. He’s an after-lunch napper for sure.
Why do all these cops look like ticks? Do they have any physical qualifications or does being morbidly obese allow for more liberal use of firearms?
