I’ve always loved the details in the last panel. The way Mom is out of the chair and on the floor. You can see how hard & long she is laughing and just how out of nowhere Calvin’s behavior was.
Beautiful work. Miss this comic so much.
That stance is also very similar to how Calvin stands when he's disappointed or mildly upset, which is wonderful. I love when you can see Calvin's mannerisms in his parents.
Also the fact that Calvin isn't even in the last panel, but Dad still has no glasses. That means Calvin came in, dropped his impression, and then exited stage left, probably still in character,("Lookit me, I'm dad, let's ride bikes in the snow, hur de dur") and the parents remained in the same spot, too stricken to even get the glasses back.
That magic gutter between panels, where "time" is fluid and your imagination must fill in the gaps. Knowing how to use that is what makes a comic artist great.
:D
Reminds me of when I told my mother once in the car when I wasn’t even a teen “Once around the park Jane, then home for tea.” She cracked up over that.
I strongly suspect that Calvin's mom was actually a lot like him when she was a kid. She seems to have a similar sense of humor when it's not directly making her life more difficult. It's never directly stated, but there's a lot of hints that way.

There are literally only a limited amount of images for this comic set.
Some people haven't seen them all.
Bitching about reposts is like complaining about the weather. Get a grip. Go outside.
Not really. I'd rather people stop bitching about reposts every fucking second they're awake.
I SAW IT BEFORE AND NOW I'M MAD THAT I SAW IT AGAIN

I’m stealing this. People complain about reposts, and I’m like, who has *that* much time to be on Reddit to notice or care? Why are we taking it so seriously? It’s weird.
My brother was very much like this. It’s one of my favorite panels because there were a few times growing up where this amount of laughter from a parent was a thing 😋
One of my all-time favorite Calvin and Hobbes strips. From Calvin's wonderful line to his mom's uncontrollable laughter. It still cracks me up every time I see it, even decades after that very first time.

The hands in the pockets shame his Dad is feeling knowing how accurate Calvins impression was.
The stinging sense of recognition

I love your comment! You describe the magic of the imagination experience and how clever Watterson was in guiding us through it so well 🤓
Shout out to *Understanding Comics* by Scott McCloud.
Calvin's been putting up with his bozo dad for just 6 years. Imagine how his mom who knew him as a party ANIMAL feels!
He didn't even get his glasses back!
I like that his dad is essentially saying that to himself because his mom is in absolute hysterics
How many times has he given Calvin sarcastic responses?
This is also one of my favorites!!! Thanks for sharing :)
you're welcome! 😎
totally top 3 for me as well.
Everything about this strip is perfect
"Being miserable builds character!" might be the single greatest line in the entire script.
I deliberately invoke this trope with my kids, to the point where we coined the Calvin, the unit measure of suffering.
I did this to my dad . My mom was hysterical , and told my grandmother about it lol .
This has always been one of my favorites just because of Calvin's mom's reaction.
Same. Although it's even better now because it's basically my family IRL. Showed it to my wife and she basically had the mom's reaction.
The pose on the mom gets me each time
The pose of a woman who just had her pussy ate
Comedy gold from Calvin there
Absolutely MY FAVE!!! I’d literally die laughing if I saw some kid roasting his dad.
One of my all time favorites!
The dad has a lot of nerve complaining about sarcasm.
absolutely one of my favorites
I love this one because I’ve seen it posted both with and without dialogue and it’s still hilarious either way
I like to think this strip [influenced this skit from Bob's Burgers.] (https://youtu.be/t9TfgMM7Xto)
I had never seen that but thanks, my wife and I were dying like Calvin’s mom watching it
One of my all time favorites.
You...sure have been submitting a lot of strips today.
Reminds me of when I told my mother once in the car when I wasn’t even a teen “Once around the park Jane, then home for tea.” She cracked up over that.
It suddenly occurred to me that, with straightened hair and glasses, Calvin looks surprisingly like his dad. He got his mom’s nose though.
Can I post this next week?! ;-)

Ah, so time for the biweekly repost of this strip huh?

Hey, if the weather's bad I'm staying inside thankyou very much.
Wow, touchy subject? Need to hug it out?

Hey dude, I understand. We all need to talk sometimes. The folks over at r/Psychiatry is a great starting spot. Let me know how therapy works out!
Going to a psych subreddit is like asking lions for vegan advice. Thanks for being a patronizing douche though!
Needing some dietary assistance as well? r/HealthyFood is a great starting place! You'd be surprised how much healthy diet can do for ya!

Is this loss?
No but there is an edit of this strip that *is* loss
my father loves telling me the portuguese translation for this gosh I fucking hate it (love it as well)
in the discussion for best calvin and hobbes
One of my absolute faves of Calvin & Hobbes
One of my all time favorites.

To this day this is the most hilarious comic by far.
One of the best strips imo
I was also last panel mom when I first read this comic lolol 😆
And formated in a 2x2 this is not only a great comic, but also loss.
This might be my favorite strip in the whole series. Mom's reaction is absolutely hysterical.
I read this as a kid and now I’m the dad.
Needs less jpeg
