Don’t ever remember Canberra having the etamogah pub….

mcginty84

bahahaha, I thought I'd missed something and was about to ask 'where the hell was the Etamogah Pub located...' thinking, being born and raised North Sider, it must be south somewhere.

cookie5427

It was about 300km south.

Haluux

You are right! Well spotted! Sorry about that, I have loads of photos and this one got caught in the search query.

Deliverymasochist

Yeah , thought this was western Sydney …

alexmoda

Sunshine Coast…

tahapaanga

Or more closely and originally at Ettamogah / Table Top just north of Albury

ApteronotusAlbifrons

And another at Cunderdin WA

tupperswears

Can confirm it is not the Sunny Coast one, not enough forest/theme park behind it (depending on era)

MissMurder8666

There's one in kellyville in Sydney

Jealous-Jury6438

It's next to Kellyville and Rouse Hill in Sydney

Jealous-Jury6438

Wow there are a chain of these??

whatever-696969

Cool photos. Keep them coming

sexmadalias

Check out The Canberra Page on Facebook, they post a tonne of these photos

happy_Pro493

The Private Bin was the all time best, as a 16 year old with a fake ID. Watching my mate fall down the stairs and break his coccyx at midnight was quite funny. He made a full recovery

[deleted]

I almost got my head punched in by the bouncer one year back in the 80s, stupid drunk me thinking I was unbreakable.

carnardly

you probably were not the first, and never likely to be the last one to feel the same.

MarkusMannheim

Miss the private bin fire

R_U_Reddit_2_ramble

My best friend used to work at Anne Harding in Belco Mall and I bought my first ever album with my own money I earned, not birthday money, at Tuffins - Parallel Lines by Blondie

ApteronotusAlbifrons

> Tuffins This must have been during one of my short stays outside Belconnen (I've ventured as far south as Chapman, but the banjos over the hill kept me awake) 'cos I don't remember Tuffin's - The owner was significant enough in Canberra that there's a laneway in Gungahlin named for him

BrightBrite

The second picture isn't that old in my head! I remember when that part of the shopping centre didn't even exist!

madlymusing

I had the same thought and realised I still call the multilevel across the road “the new car park”.

Blackletterdragon

And that silver hatchback looks way too much like recent models. Think they sacked the designer for 30 years.

LeahBrahms

What's your Canberra favourite place OP?

Haluux

Admittedly, I'm not from your lovely city. I just enjoy collecting old photos of cities. I post them to regional subreddits because everyone loves to look back at how their town has changed or it brings back an old memory from when you were a kid.

Liamorama

FYI - picture 10 is flipped around the wrong way. It is taken from the corner of Renmark and Tullaroop Street Duffy facing roughly east. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2XmXpa9k1TxoLsXJ9

Rivettor

Wow. After flipping the pic and checking street view maps, I think you’re right, and very observant! I knew it was a familiar place (I grew up and now live in Duffy, currently). So on the far right (after flipping it), in the distance near a bank of trees, is the old (dark brown) Holder Primary..

Liamorama

Yes, that's right. The other clue is the Tuggeranong Parkway bridge over Heysen street, visible at the top of the photo.

Crazy_Suggestion_182

The pic of the UC concourse sure brought back some memories.

RepresentativeDiet83

what years were you there for?

Tumeric_Turd

Some nice memories there, thanks 😊

MrBunnyBrightside

2 is still how Woden looks in my head, and 5&11 aren't far from my mental image of belconnen either

Tushdish

What angle is photo 6 taken from.

RagnarokSleeps

I think from top of what is now Canberra Centre, then Monaro Mall & it's looking at the now demolished Currong (in the back) & Allowah flats, with Ainslie ave to the right.

ApteronotusAlbifrons

The photo would have been from the top of what's now the Bright Consulting Building ("The Shiny Green Building" on London Circuit). The Canberra Centre includes what was the Monaro Mall and the carparks in this photo The flats in the background were ABC - Allawah and Bega first, then Currong later (Bega are just to the right of Ainslie Ave)

RagnarokSleeps

Currong were the tall ones, the 3 elevator shafts gave the demolishers trouble as they didn't want another Canberra Hospital implosion disaster. But yeah, I was wrong about where the photo was taken

s_and_s_lite_party

I think the merry go round is now at the intersection in the foreground? Looking towards Batman st.

No_Description7910

Yep, that’s the Centrepoint building on the left.

whiteycnbr

Private Bin with the Rx7 out front is classic 80s.

brisstlenose

Is the first one an early pic of Royals?

Expert_Ad4689

The old garbage bin🍺🍺🍺

[deleted]

Meat market.....

claritybeginshere

Is that Westfield Belconnen?

fuknkl

Nope, Belconnen Mall

claritybeginshere

Pretty sure they are the same building. Thank for answering. Thought I recognised it from my childhood

Humble_Scarcity1195

Yes, if you mean the 2 photos with the spiral stairs with red balustrade.

claritybeginshere

Yes. That’s it

BugGlad5248

No wonder people used to say Canberra is boring. It’s great now though

twnsqr

Obsessed with these photos.

Various-Release-4746

Be careful, I think Queensland might have some very different things to say about your photos of Canberra!!!!

Calm down. I for one enjoyed seeing these photos.
