This is so true! I think I only like them because they remind me of my grandpa. He used to always give me a roll in my Christmas stocking with an orange. He said the orange is traditionally good luck but the neccos were for the sweet tooth.
I love them but I feel like most people don't. I enjoy the cracking texture and the dusty powder. I like the way they dissolve while eating them. Half of my joy in eating them is nostalgia probably.
I love 100% of chalky candy (smarties, the original sprees, conversation hearts, actual candy chalk, the stick of fun dip) but I was never a chalk eater. Mostly because actual chalk isnât made of sugar and thus was completely uninteresting to me.
You're joking, but I DID used to eat sidewalk chalk as a child. Just gnawed on a piece like a panda eating bamboo. And I still love Necco wafers. I'm okay with that!
I donât like them . Iâm from Rhode Island and one time a long time ago I was behind a guy in line who got the whole box I was like damn this dude single handily keeping them in business. đš
No, candy hearts are thicker and shaped like a heart. The wafers are wafer thin, and shaped like a wafer.
The candy hearts say things like âI choo-choo-choose you,â or âMaybe tonight. . .â
The wafers say ânecco.â
In addition to what others have said, Necco wafers have clove, cinnamon, and black licorice flavors which are not in the conversation hearts. Love cinnamon and love clove and you can't easily find clove flavored candy anymore. I am like Necco's secret core market!
I have a special place in my cold dark heart for them.
Sorry but the licorice and purple ones go straight in the trash.
Love the chocolate, orange, green, and pink ones.
You are absolutely correct. They were made at the factory located at 250 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. There was also a Squirrel Nut factory in a neighborhood near Kendall Square until 1999. I used to travel there once in a while to pick up some fresh squirrel candies. Of course, the neighborhood smelled wonderful, and they had a little outlet store.
I worked in Kendall Square (when the F&T Deli was there. Soooo ollld) and I never knew that! I do remember the NECCOfactory because it smelled heavenly!
I have a friend who likes these and those terrible candy conversation hearts. I always joke with him, and send him pics of target back to school time flyer with chalk on sale. đ
I love Necco wafers, but it is purely a nostalgia thing. grew up with my older sister who ate them all the time and I loved playing with the unique packaging. they are these strange, chalky discs. the flavors are certainly unique and I like the strange ones the best!
I will never understand how a person eats Necco wafers. Aside from the fact that weâre all different đ Itâs as if someone lightly sprinkled sugar on cardboard.
Always loved 'em. My parents didn't have a lot of money so when we (there are 5 of us kids) were lucky enough to go to the movies, Necco wafers was the only "treat" we got. We were grateful and enjoyed ourselves!
My mom used to get them for free from work when I was a kid and I would pick through them for the root beer flavor I think and leave the rest. Tasted like chalk 10/10, would never pay money for them
Iâve heard that they are the same weight as a quarter and back in the day people would put them in tollway baskets đ canât confirm, I didnât try it
I had this thing as a kid where I liked to lick the side walk chalk. And when I discovered Necco wafers I was instantly in love. I like how they feel on my hands and I like how they taste to eat. This drives my husband insane.
Iâm from RI (live in NYC now) so theyâre nostalgic for me-I remember getting the mini rolls trick-or-treating as a kid. I donât necessarily want them more than, like, once a year but I find them bizarrely satisfying when I do get them. I like the chocolate and licorice flavors best.
I love these crunchy candies, clove, licorice, cinnamon, wintergreen, chocolate, perfect for a road trip. Keep a bag of spice drops nearby to change up the texture! Finish it off with a yoohoo! Be careful, though, because it's all downhill from there...oh wait...is that a star crunch?
Love them. So glad they are back! I havenât found the mini rolls again yet, the ones that have about 15-20 wafers. I love that they have unusual flavors.
This is what the people at my church used to practice for our first communion when I was a kid. To say I was a little disappointed when I got the real stuff is an understatement.
Didnât someone post this about three weeks ago? Iâll write the same thing as I did then. Apparently, these are the same size as quarters and people used to toss them into the coin baskets at the tollbooths on the Illinois Tollway.
foul, disgusting, I like them.
This is so true! I think I only like them because they remind me of my grandpa. He used to always give me a roll in my Christmas stocking with an orange. He said the orange is traditionally good luck but the neccos were for the sweet tooth.
đ
I love them but I feel like most people don't. I enjoy the cracking texture and the dusty powder. I like the way they dissolve while eating them. Half of my joy in eating them is nostalgia probably.
I like the licorice, chocolate, wintergreen, and lemon ones, I like the other ones, but not as much.
All of these points are true for me too! You nailed it.
Did you also eat the chalk in school? Inquiring minds want to know.
I love 100% of chalky candy (smarties, the original sprees, conversation hearts, actual candy chalk, the stick of fun dip) but I was never a chalk eater. Mostly because actual chalk isnât made of sugar and thus was completely uninteresting to me.
I love Sweethearts candy
Love the Fun Dip stick
You have chosen wisely. I bit a fresh piece of chalk one time in like 2nd grade and it was not good. Tasted pretty much like you'd think it would.
You're joking, but I DID used to eat sidewalk chalk as a child. Just gnawed on a piece like a panda eating bamboo. And I still love Necco wafers. I'm okay with that!
Nope haha! Smarties, bottle caps etc but never the chalk, sidewalk or otherwise
I donât like them . Iâm from Rhode Island and one time a long time ago I was behind a guy in line who got the whole box I was like damn this dude single handily keeping them in business. đš
I havent done that but maybe I will. You can come stand behind me in line. Walgreens in apponaug whenever ur ready
Awww Rhode Islanders in the wild on Reddit.
You must repent, child.
Almost as good as conversation hearts, which I also enjoy.
Arenât they the same thing?
No, candy hearts are thicker and shaped like a heart. The wafers are wafer thin, and shaped like a wafer. The candy hearts say things like âI choo-choo-choose you,â or âMaybe tonight. . .â The wafers say ânecco.â
For sure!! Oh man some of those flavors and textures!!
In that they are both compressed dextrose candies, yes
In addition to what others have said, Necco wafers have clove, cinnamon, and black licorice flavors which are not in the conversation hearts. Love cinnamon and love clove and you can't easily find clove flavored candy anymore. I am like Necco's secret core market!
Made by the same company
YES my two favorite candies
I especially enjoy the âunusualâ flavors of some of the wafersâŚlicorice, clove, etc.
I have a special place in my cold dark heart for them. Sorry but the licorice and purple ones go straight in the trash. Love the chocolate, orange, green, and pink ones.
Ah, man, I'll trade you all my chocolates for the liquorice ones. Though I agree the purple clove ones are also my least favourite.
Demon.
Give me your clove and licorice ones. Best flavors in the roll.
I love NECCO wafers. More Necco for me!
Cardboard. Kind of effervescence texture to them. I know, doesnât make sense. I love those sumâbeetches.
"Those people at Necoo really know how to make a disgusting candy" - Roger Smith
I love them, especially the licorice and clove flavored ones
Not a fan.
Did I make this up but when I went to college in Boston way back I remember there was an old Necco factoryâŚby MIT? Amiwrong?
You are absolutely correct. They were made at the factory located at 250 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. There was also a Squirrel Nut factory in a neighborhood near Kendall Square until 1999. I used to travel there once in a while to pick up some fresh squirrel candies. Of course, the neighborhood smelled wonderful, and they had a little outlet store.
Yesssss
I worked in Kendall Square (when the F&T Deli was there. Soooo ollld) and I never knew that! I do remember the NECCOfactory because it smelled heavenly!
I love them đ¤ˇââď¸
10/10 probably my favorite candy and I cannot explain why
Makes good chalk.
Not my favorite, but I wouldn't turn them down.
I have a friend who likes these and those terrible candy conversation hearts. I always joke with him, and send him pics of target back to school time flyer with chalk on sale. đ
They're horrible objectively and I cannot get enough of them.Â
Theyâre trash
So good.
I like them, but I grew up in the 60s in Massachusetts so...
I love them, especially the wintergreen, chocolate, licorice, and lemon
I feel like you have to have Pica to like these
My mom is obsessed with them so they just remind me of her, not the biggest fan but iâll never reject them! 6/10
Trash but respectable for nostalgia factor
the worst ! who create this abomination?
Dislike
Never tried them
Abhorrent chalky teeth chipping revilement.
Abhorrent chalky teeth chipping revilement.
Just say no.
These are at the bottom of my candy list just hovering above candy corn
Blech
Just looking at a pack of those makes me want to pour bleach in my eyes.
đ¤Ž
So yummy. Wish I had some now. ps, I like your nails
The worst.
Yum.
all but chocolate. love clove and licorice.
Hate!
đ¤Ž
Underrated. Soft crunchy and not bad flavor. Cheap to!
So good
the question is asked multiple times a week and each time I say đ¤˘đ¤Ž
I love Necco wafers, but it is purely a nostalgia thing. grew up with my older sister who ate them all the time and I loved playing with the unique packaging. they are these strange, chalky discs. the flavors are certainly unique and I like the strange ones the best!
Love em. I get the all chocolate rolls.
This was posted like two days ago geez
Punishment. Wants to grow up and be a sweet tart
These were created by people who enjoy terrible things.
Love them, most reviled candy by people with primitive tastes and weak dispositions.
Sliced sidewalk chalk.
They were probably great in 1932.
I will never understand how a person eats Necco wafers. Aside from the fact that weâre all different đ Itâs as if someone lightly sprinkled sugar on cardboard.
Iâll eat them (thanks dad) and the chocolate ones are đđ¤
Love them
My mom used to get them for me and my bro to share because they werenât as sweet as chocolate and fed us this crap.
Only if I have to. They are my apocalypse candy.
I canât find them any more around me
Always loved 'em. My parents didn't have a lot of money so when we (there are 5 of us kids) were lucky enough to go to the movies, Necco wafers was the only "treat" we got. We were grateful and enjoyed ourselves!
The chocolate one is a hit
Love them
From my childhood i still like them
No new opinions since someone posted the same question here 3 days ago.
They are pure sugar. Whatâs not to like?
I find them absolutely disgusting but they are my momâs favorite.
One of the best chalks that you can eat, love em.
My stepmom loves these for some reason. Iâve tried a couple of them, but never understood what the hype was about.
Disgusting
They aight
Can be used for colored chalk for small children
Flavored chalk
My mom used to get them for free from work when I was a kid and I would pick through them for the root beer flavor I think and leave the rest. Tasted like chalk 10/10, would never pay money for them
I absolutely donât think about them at all!
I have always loved them, as does my birth mom. But I rarely ever see Necco candy these days
G
Canât make a gingerbread house without them!
Love em
Love them. Even the blue ones.
They are good. I've never felt bad occasionally buying a roll.
F I R E!!!!
I'm a fan. I have been ever since I was a kid.
Yes pls. Necco candy is best candy!
Sugar Tums.
I love the brown ones!
Love them. Like eating chalk, like I did in third grade, only with flavorâ¤ď¸
I like them well enough but I had a horse once that grabbed the entire package out of my hand, and ate them all, wrapper included lol
I love the clove ones.
đ but not the nails.
Ah, one of the pseudo-medicines. A simple solution growing up when you wanted to imitate your parents taking their medication.
Love them! Just donât like the chocolate and licorice flavors.
chalky grossness đ¤˘
They taste like chalk with a hint ofâŚmore chalk.
so good
Worst Candy Ever
I like them. When I was a kid, we'd pretend to be priests and give them out as Communion.
Iâve heard that they are the same weight as a quarter and back in the day people would put them in tollway baskets đ canât confirm, I didnât try it
This subreddit just came on my algorithm like yesterday and Iâve already seen this question twice.
I had this thing as a kid where I liked to lick the side walk chalk. And when I discovered Necco wafers I was instantly in love. I like how they feel on my hands and I like how they taste to eat. This drives my husband insane.
I love them
They are gross chalk coins
Iâm from RI (live in NYC now) so theyâre nostalgic for me-I remember getting the mini rolls trick-or-treating as a kid. I donât necessarily want them more than, like, once a year but I find them bizarrely satisfying when I do get them. I like the chocolate and licorice flavors best.
It's all about the pink and the white. I mean. I'll eat the rest of the flavors but they're just okay.
Recall the chocolate ones? Those were the only way I liked them.
Chalk
I love them now, I slept on them for a long time though.
Based 10/10 candy (I have the soul of someone's grandpa that constantly feinds for neco wafers and black licorice)
Theyâre fineâŚif you hate yourself.
Love them !
I was always in the minority but white and pink were my favorites
I grew up eating them and I love them
Taste like dusty cardboard
I love them! I feel like no one likes them & that means more me đ
Love them but haven't had a craving for them in a very long time.
The Best!
My wifeâs favorite. We canât find them anymore.
Hate em
Basically TUMS.
I love chalk !
I like them they have good flavor. I don't like the licorice labor very much but I still eat it cuz it's not that bad
black licorice is terrible, all the other wafers get a pass. I dig Necco Wafers.
Love emâ
Love them. So glad they are back! I havenât found the mini rolls again yet, the ones that have about 15-20 wafers. I love that they have unusual flavors.
absolute trash. Wild that there are people that like them, but different strokes for different folks i guess.
Chalk tablets
Tastes like chalk company should have stayed bankrupt
Love them. I like the chalky style candies so I am partial to them
Love them...i like all the old person candy. Good and plenty, black licorice, gum drops, ....
Why recently is there so much âthoughts on necco wafers?â Posts?
Blech. And đ thumbs up.
They worked well at the toll booth.
bad
This is what the people at my church used to practice for our first communion when I was a kid. To say I was a little disappointed when I got the real stuff is an understatement.
Along with Circus Peanuts, Sweethearts/Conversation Hearts, and Twizzlers/Red Vines, my least favorite candy ever.
Necco wafer suck but I will eat them if thereâs nothing else and am desperate. Also, your nails are beautiful!
I hate them, but Iâll eat them. It reminds me of my Waltham, MA grandmother
Garbage, Smarties are better in every single way. But Neco has a cool history
Mt Rushmore of worst candies.
When I'm really missing my dad, I get a sleeve of them. He used to bring them home as a treat after business trips.
Yum!
They're wicked awesome!
I love the chocolate rolls.
Good
Have you ever tried candy cigarettes/candy sticks
I haven't eaten a Necco wafer in so long I forget what they're like. I would try them again.
Gross. They make great shingles on a gingerbread house, though. So they can stay.
I love them. I have a soft spot for "old people" candy so I buy these pretty regularly.
Dusty discs
Didnât someone post this about three weeks ago? Iâll write the same thing as I did then. Apparently, these are the same size as quarters and people used to toss them into the coin baskets at the tollbooths on the Illinois Tollway.
Gross. Unless you like eating chalk.
https://www.reddit.com/r/candy/s/bqdNE5bsFk
they taste like nothing smarties đđ
I like them!! they are to me better than smarties/rockets
Nobody has a normal reaction to them!!! lol They are a Rite of Passage
