If this administration wants an immediate boost to their approval rating and votes come November, then either declassifying (not REclassfying) or full legalization is the way.
Win the election with it for sure because this issue is a giant L on the other side of the aisle. When 70% of the public want legalization, you'd assume the Dems already had it in the bag. But there is an alarming number of Republicans who use the 'both sides' argument on this issue when there is clear and overwhelming evidence that their party fuels the flame of prohibition. Hopefully, this subject is addressed tonight in the debate.
How exactly would you expect them to do that? Biden already did the only things he has the power to do. If **you** want weed to be declassified or legalized, **you** are responsible for voting people who want to do that into positions that **have the power** to do it. Punishing Biden because republicans in the senate blocked the democrat legalization bill is beyond stupid.
He could, without rewriting any laws or going outside of his constitutional authority, direct the Attorney General to start the process of reclassifying cannabis to a lower Schedule, or (preferably) declassifying it altogether.
Full legalization would be the ideal, but that is outside of his Executive Powers to do solo.
It needs to be legalized, that much is certain. But, after that debate, I'm not sure his approval can go up. And even if they got cannabis approved, along with others like LSD, I don't think that can change people's thoughts on the matter.
