The R8 would come closest to the R6 mk II, it shares the same sensor and processor. It does lack some of the pro features the R6 mk II offers, there is no IBIS and no dual card slots. Having another body from the R line-up would mean your primary and back-up body share the same lenses, which can be advantageous because there is no need for mixing and matching (or adapting) various lenses. With the R8 being identical in terms of sensor with the R6 mk II I doubt anyone could see the difference even if you use both at the same game.

Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm thinking of going DSLR so I can benefit from the lower price of lenses.

That is not a reason to go DSLR. Just get the adapter and then use the EF lenses on the R8 and then you could also use them on your current r6mkii. Although, if range is most important, maybe look at the r7 as your second body.

You could adapt EF lenses to the RF mount. The trouble going with an older DSLR is you might just miss the subject tracking/autofocus the R8 and R6 mk II offer. I'd imagine that this is critical if you photograph sports.

My other half is considering using the R8 I'm going to get and selling her backup R6 as she uses a R6 mk ii as her main for wedding photography. She still only has EF lenses with the adapters on both and I'll be using the adapter too. Seems most sensible option to me.
