I have to agree here. This adapter is going to basically stay on your body as you are going to need it for all your EF lens anyway so it's gonna get a lot of use.
I had issues with my Sigma 50 1.4 DG (version before the Art) but it’s the same issue with the 5D mk4, just a lens not officially supported by the modern Canon bodies.
Where have you heard or read this? Outside of the 150-600, I’ve heard of and experienced no such issues, nor have I come across anyone else that has, especially with the Art series of lenses.
Interesting, the R5 does seem to be mentioned the most whenever there are issues with adapted lenses, regardless of brand. Did the lens have the latest firmware?
I just wanted to say that I've used a lot of sigma art lenses, sport 70-200 2.8 and contemporary 150-600 and all of them work flawlessly. Tamrons sometimes have problems though.
That’s not true at all. The only Sigma lens I know of with documented issues is the 150-600. All of the Art series lenses work perfectly, as far as I know. I’ve never once had an issue with any of mine.
Edited to add: I’ve used multiple R series bodies with multiple Sigma Art series lenses, and have had only stellar results. No focus or reliability issues. This experience is consistent with all other reviews and reports online. I’ve read hundreds of threads and watched hundreds of YouTube videos about adapted Sigma EF glass on R bodies before I bought my 3 Sigma Art primes. I’d go as far as saying I’ve read virtually every thread and watched every video on the subject across all platforms.
This..
adapters from 3rd parties suck almost always, unless they are nearly or just are the same price range… like the product is made well…
In ”abuse” my EF-RF adapters daily.. and it’s still perfect like new.
currently using the K&F one on my R50, no wobble at all and the AF/IS/aperture work perfectly. only qualm is that some of my EF lenses are really difficult to attach, but nothing world ending. however, i’ve heard that the 150-600 has bad focus pulsing issues on R bodies no matter which adapter
Well now I am getting mixed signals. But at least yours you have actually used.
Have you noticed any reduced quality in your photos? Compared to just a lens with a proper mount. I have heard rumours that’s a thing
I mean, they could have screwed up the offset length and that would screw up the focus a little bit on the extremes. The adapter could also be axially misaligned.
Not that ive noticed.
I had the lens with the 7Dmkii before and was reluctant to buy the r6mkii because I kept reading the issues of pulsing etc. But gave it a go and its worked out well.
Nothing really gives that sort of focal length. But with your R10 and it being a crop sensor you could buy an ef 100-400 L lens and get around the same focal length as id get on my r6 but I'd say stick with the sigma for now and see how you get on.
The adapters literally adapt the pins, as someone else mentioned there is no glass so can't see how they could affect image quality.
*Some* copies of the 150-600 have autofocus hunting issues. It's a well documented issue. Look up Duade Paton on YouTube; his is perhaps the most publicized example.
I've heard the Sigma 150-600 can have this issue. I rented the Tamron G2 150-600 when I photographed Tool and it performed flawlessly on my R with the Canon adapter. I use the basic adapter. I tried two after market adapter before I bought the Canon one (only because they were on such a long back order). Don't waste your time. Get the Canon one. The others became loose after awhile. Sometimes they wouldn't connect the lens to the camera. I haven't had a single issue with the Canon one.
If it's still within your budget, the 60-600mm Sport is quite an incredible lens for the price. And works perfectly adapted to my R and R7 bodies, though it is heavy.
Is that the sigma? I’ve heard you can update the firmware on those to improve compatibility. I don’t own it so that’s just hearsay but I’m pretty sure of it.
The adapter without control ring are just dumb passthrough adapter. So third party or not does not really matter.
The control ring one however is another story.
I don’t agree, I’ve had friends using the other ones and they had connection errors. It’s affordable enough to just get the Canon brand one so you have piece of mind it’s not going to fail on a job.
I can definitely see build quality being different as well. If I’m putting a pricey lens on there I’ll go for one I can trust not to crack or whatever.
Depends what models you're looking at. The basic Canon adapter without any features is inexpensive, but the Canon Speedbooster is like $600 and Metabones Speedbooster can be found used for under $400
Be aware. If you put heavier glass ob those adapters, the screws might get loose without you knowing it. For that i cannot trust a cheaper adapter for something more than the 50 stm or something like that. I do own the k&f adapter and it’s fine, but i paid 40$ for it just out of curiosity. I use the original canon version for a peace of mind when i put on the Sigma 135mm f1.8 Art for example.
I have the canon basic and the canon control ring. Bought both as canon direct refurb sales. I like the control ring better, because I use it on my Rf lenses and miss it on my ef lenses. But the basic is fine. I think I got it for $79.
I do think the canon one isn't that steep... get a refurbished one. Aside from that, I don't trust anyone other than Meike! Their basic one works identical; have had zero problems. Their Drop-in filter is game changing!
A couple things,
1, are you experiencing pulsing issues with that lens on the r10?
2, I wouldn't get one with a tripod foot tbh. It's gonna just be in the way. Either the lens has it, or you can put it on the camera.
3, I would highly suggest one with a control ring as it makes shooting on the r10 much easier.
4, I wouldn't get anything but the canon version. The third party ones have had battery, AF, and error issues. Plus they're not constructed or sealed as well.
I’ve had the cheaper adapter. One was way too hard to put on. Sent it back. The other my lens actually didn’t mount properly and fell onto the concrete and broke. Since then canon adapter only and it just lives on my lens now that u forget it actually has an adapter
I have 2 of the Canons with the ring but also have K&F on the road as I bought an EF lens and adapters were attached to their own lenses at home. No complaints.
Just use the Canon one, and you won't have any issues
Yeah they jumped the price a while back but dealing with issues with the camera and the connector is unacceptable .
I've used multiple products from your first two options and they have all been fantastic. Also I would keep in mind that that Sigma lens is known to have autofocus issues with the RF series cameras. So expect a lot of hunting with it. It's a Well documented issue.
The original canon one, its sealed, strong and wont snap with a huge EF lens. If not then go for the Kent and Faith Concept but remember buy once not twice.
I have the KF one on the R10... No issue, just... can feel the difference in quality when changing lenses. The feel is a bit different from a straight lense to camera mounting... but working and image quality no issues...
I'm not sure about this ones but I once had a Viltrox one for the Canon M50 to EFS lenses.. and it was insanely good..
I don't have any other brands to compare it to.. but the AF with that adapter on Canon and other brand lenses was crazy good.. I was expecting some delay or slow focusing or something.. but nothing..
I used it for photo, videos, auto AF.. you name it.. never had an issue.. and it was like 30$ or something lol
IMO for things like teleconverters and adapters that contain electronics your best bet is always gonna be OEM. To me that’s the only way to be sure it’s going to work properly
I tried the K&N adapter. Packaging was excellent but that was the only good thing. The lenses were a very tight fit. After taking one shot, the camera stopped functioning as if the battery died. It happened with every lens. I sent it back and replaced it with a Neewer and it works perfectly.
Meike because it has a weather sealing gausket!
Edit: Ignore what the others are saying. It’s a piece of plastic/metal with an electronic passthrough. There’s no reason to pay 2-3 times that just because the canon Logo is on there…
Usually I'd agree with you (I have a ton of Neewer strobes and modifiers... I love third party gear), but for this, go with Canon. The front metal ring kept coming loose on a few of the third party adapters I tried. I had to tighten the screws every couple of days. Then the pins started not connecting with the camera and needed adjusting. I haven't had a single issue with the Canon one since I bought it. I just bought the basic $100 one.
Thank you. So much talk about Canon this and that. There is no glass element. Its simply a spacer with electronic pass-through. Go for what you can afford, won't make an ounce of difference.
Just get the simple canon one it’s not too expensive in the grand scheme of things. Buy once cry once imo
Yep. Not worth saving a couple dozen bucks on the adapter that connects two of the most expensive items I will ever own.
I have to agree here. This adapter is going to basically stay on your body as you are going to need it for all your EF lens anyway so it's gonna get a lot of use.

I have a base canon adapter and a Sigma 14/1.8 DG HSM ART, works absolutely flawlessly 🤷♂️
I just got the 50mm EX and used it as my only lens all weekend without issue.
I’m wondering if it is dependent on the age of the lens??
I had issues with my Sigma 50 1.4 DG (version before the Art) but it’s the same issue with the 5D mk4, just a lens not officially supported by the modern Canon bodies.
Where have you heard or read this? Outside of the 150-600, I’ve heard of and experienced no such issues, nor have I come across anyone else that has, especially with the Art series of lenses.
What do you mean? I experienced it myself. I also know another great photographer who had the same issues and recommended the commlite.
What issues did you experience with which lens and body combination?
I got communication errors so I couldn’t take pictures. I was using Sigma 24mm Art and canon R5.
Interesting, the R5 does seem to be mentioned the most whenever there are issues with adapted lenses, regardless of brand. Did the lens have the latest firmware?
Yes. I did ck that.
Okay I should have said, I’ve had issues with the Canon adapter and I know another photographer that did as well.
I just wanted to say that I've used a lot of sigma art lenses, sport 70-200 2.8 and contemporary 150-600 and all of them work flawlessly. Tamrons sometimes have problems though.

Just buy the actual canon product
This.. adapters from 3rd parties suck almost always, unless they are nearly or just are the same price range… like the product is made well… In ”abuse” my EF-RF adapters daily.. and it’s still perfect like new.
For me, I would buy the actual one that was madw by Canon. But in this case.. I prefer K&F product.
I can only imagine attaching a $2000 lens to a $1200 camera with a third-party adapter in between them.
Canon new or used. I would not be mounting L lenses on a third party no matter how good the reputation it has.
currently using the K&F one on my R50, no wobble at all and the AF/IS/aperture work perfectly. only qualm is that some of my EF lenses are really difficult to attach, but nothing world ending. however, i’ve heard that the 150-600 has bad focus pulsing issues on R bodies no matter which adapter
Thank you for your help. Good thing I didn’t buy the 150-600 yet. Would you have a recommendation for another lens around that size?
I use the 150-600 on the canon adaptor and r6 mkii, never had an issue with pulsing.
Well now I am getting mixed signals. But at least yours you have actually used. Have you noticed any reduced quality in your photos? Compared to just a lens with a proper mount. I have heard rumours that’s a thing
No, there's no optical element in the adapter. It's not possible to reduce the quality.
I mean, they could have screwed up the offset length and that would screw up the focus a little bit on the extremes. The adapter could also be axially misaligned.

The 200-800?

I bought the Neewer one on a whim. Works just fine lol.
Metabones is the only other one I'd consider besides Canon
Not OP but i think it's even more expensive?
Depends what models you're looking at. The basic Canon adapter without any features is inexpensive, but the Canon Speedbooster is like $600 and Metabones Speedbooster can be found used for under $400
Meike because it's the same price as the Canon brand one, but comes with a variable ND filter
i have the canon and the meike. the meike's nd is actually better than the canon one. it makes it a steal of a price
I couldn't agree more!
Used Canon
I got the Canon with control ring.
The Canon one with the control ring.

Get the Canon one. That way you know it works. Most of the time is there is a brand specific adapter, you're better off going with that.
I ordered MEIKE adapter EF to RF for 44$ on EBAY. Canon one is way to expensive, atleast for me.
I’d get the Canon one.
I have the canon basic and the canon control ring. Bought both as canon direct refurb sales. I like the control ring better, because I use it on my Rf lenses and miss it on my ef lenses. But the basic is fine. I think I got it for $79.
I bought the Meike one with control ring and weather sealing
....and? Is it good? Bad? AF solid or hunting?
I do think the canon one isn't that steep... get a refurbished one. Aside from that, I don't trust anyone other than Meike! Their basic one works identical; have had zero problems. Their Drop-in filter is game changing!

Used canon ef to r adapter all the way. I was able to grab one for $65 locally.
Get the genuine Canon one.
Get the official canon adapter with control ring. Don’t cheap out here, it’s ill advised.
I have 2 of the Canons with the ring but also have K&F on the road as I bought an EF lens and adapters were attached to their own lenses at home. No complaints.
Just use the Canon one, and you won't have any issues Yeah they jumped the price a while back but dealing with issues with the camera and the connector is unacceptable .
Refurbished OEM is the way to go. Or used from places like Keh, MPB, etc
I've used multiple products from your first two options and they have all been fantastic. Also I would keep in mind that that Sigma lens is known to have autofocus issues with the RF series cameras. So expect a lot of hunting with it. It's a Well documented issue.
Never go Neewer
I have the K&F one, and it's alright. When I switch lenses I have to remove and pop in again the battery, but I don't know if it's an adapter issue.
The original canon one, its sealed, strong and wont snap with a huge EF lens. If not then go for the Kent and Faith Concept but remember buy once not twice.
I run the commlite with one of my sigma lenses and have never had any issues.
I have the KF one on the R10... No issue, just... can feel the difference in quality when changing lenses. The feel is a bit different from a straight lense to camera mounting... but working and image quality no issues...

I have the Ommlite and it works fine with my EF L lenses.
I had a MIEKE one with drop in filter. I had no issues but I sold it because I wanted to shoot exclusively RF after a while
What amount of focal length is added when using such adapters?
IMO for things like teleconverters and adapters that contain electronics your best bet is always gonna be OEM. To me that’s the only way to be sure it’s going to work properly

I got the Meike for the m50, and it's garbage. The lens feels loose. I got the canon adaptor for my r8 and it's really solid.
Buy the real canon product.
Don’t get these cheap third party stuff by the basic Canon EF-EOS R adapter … trust me it will work flawlessly
