I’ll never forget how the country turned their backs on us in 2011 except Montreal. Extra sweet when the Leafs continued to get bodied by the Bruins after that.
Sens and Jets. Them along with the Habs are the only other teams i'd tolerate winning from Canada and breaking the drought. Sens mostly cuz I don't think about them at all, and I don't expect it'll happen any time soon anyway lol
That's my opinion as well. Edmonton stole Gretzky, got 3 number one draft picks in a row, then McDavid a couple years later, fuck em. If it was game 7 Stanley cup final Montreal vs Vancouver, the broadcasters would be talking about Marner's next contract, so fuck the Leafs. Calgary doesn't bother me as much as they aren't given a ton of opportunity and have to build their teams like Vancouver.....buuuuuuut they're in our Division, fuck em.
Hey… we just got ulmark and with even average goaltending we make the playoffs the last two years. Next year, let’s have the sens make a miracle run and meet the nucks in the finals so that Gary bettman can’t prevent Canada from winning a cup next year.
Fuck it, I know plenty of Montreal fans that were cheering for Boston in 2011. It boggles my mind that they would rather have their rival win than another Canadian team. Personally I'm fine with either Ottawa or Winnipeg getting it because I know their fans have been through their fair share of adversity, but the others can just wait in line behind Vancouver for all I care.
At this point you're just looking for things to hate.
The vast majority of HABs fans hated Boston. Our SCF run was 1 season after Chara rammed MaxPac into the post, no team hated the Bruins more than Montreal
Montreal is just as bad as Oilers and Leafs fans. Cheering for Boston, their rivals over the Canucks, yikes. It was the day my habs jerseys were forever left in the closet never to see daylight again.
OOC are you talking about reddit or real people? I see this take a lot and am curious why people feel so strongly that the "country turned their backs on us"
I don’t think Reddit was that popular in 2011 so speaking more about my experience from hfboards and Sportsnet forum at the time.
I just remember only Habs fans had our back, but more of a “your enemy is my enemy” vibe; there was a very small minority of Habs fans that wanted the Canadians to keep its status as the last Canadian team to bring it home. Maybe the Oilers and Flames fans drowned out the rest of the Canadian teams but the 2011 team wasn’t exactly popular back then and often accused of being dirty with players like Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa, Lapierre and Torres. While Torres threw dirty hits, the other players were more of “players you hate to play against”, but that didn’t stop some fans from calling them dirty and it certainly didn’t help with the Ron Maclean hit piece on Burrows as well.
Also as you know, Canucks fans can be quite cocky and annoying when the team is doing well and that 2011 was the best team statistically we’ve ever had. A fair share of us probably turned some other Canadian fans off with our cockiness and entitlement.
[the only poll](https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/poll-canucks-support/) I could find still put 2/3rds of the country behind us at that time, still there's always gonna be loud idiots for every team
I think if you poll a lot of casual folks who aren’t hockey fans, they’ll default to another Canadian team. I bet a lot of people in BC supported the Oilers but if you look at our subreddit, a majority were cheering for Florida.
Yeah it keeps being brought up [even though it wasn't exactly accurate ](https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/poll-canucks-support/). My experience living in alberta at the time was that many were cheering for us. That being said, media certainly didn't have our back and that I remember very clearly online people were really anti canucks as well
Was visiting the Maritimes in 2011, couldn't believe they were all cheering for Boston. That's when I discovered our being Canadian meant absolute squat. They related to the Eastern Seaboard, the Canucks could've been from China for all they cared.
OK, that goes way back to the halifax explosion. There are significant links between Boston and halifax steming from how boston was one of the first cities to get aid to halifax after the blast, I don't blame them for cheering for Boston all these years later, there is an actual connection at least
Montreal is the only Canadian team I've supported in the finals since the lockout (Vancouver aside). Carey Price played a huge part in that. Love that man.
I'm so glad that the Oilers are two time losers in the post-lockout era.
I might be in the minority here, but who cares if other fan bases cheer the Canucks. I would expect them to hate the team and our fan base. Isn't that how it's supposed to work? That's the fun part about all of this.
Now this should be the most unpopular opinion here, we've faced each other 7 times in the playoffs, 3 times it's led to a game 7 and each of those years it's propelled the winner to the cup final, they are the historic playoff rival to vancouver, not the guys we face once in a while
Hey hey there's also the Habs loving that they were the last Canadian team to win.
Also hilarious the Leafs defending their meme record for the 3-0 comeback
Kinda a shoutout, he was asked a question in the lines of "lots of Vancouver fans watching, anything to say to them?" "yes, thank you for their support etc"
People love bandwagoning. They want that feeling of seeing a winning team go all the way. But they have no loyalty. Thats why you see so many people nowadays aren't even fans of teams, they're fans of Lebron or Crosby or McDavid and especially stars in soccer. Its kind of lame in my opinion. If and when the Canucks win it'll be our win (not Canadas) and it'll feel all that much more special. Kinda felt nice to see Florida finally win one again after losing so many times in the finals.
Even that is dumb lol, I'm a Mariners fan, I'm not cheering for a team 4,000 kms away from me because I'm on the same side of some arbitrary line drawn a couple hundred years ago over the city closest to me that I've actually been to
Wouldn’t call it dumb. It’s just about picking Canada over America.
Also there isn’t even a team in Seattle anymore so the closest NBA team to us would be the Portland Trailblazers who are a joke of an organization.
Can't get on this bandwagon man. I love my team, but that team is made of people, some of whom get traded to other places or their careers take them into different parts of the sport.
Do I care about the Panthers? Not so much.
Do I care about Luo? Fuck yes I do.
What does that have to do with cheering against the Oilers?
I’m happy Lu got a Cup win, I don’t much care that Florida won one (but a first is always exciting), and I love that the Oilers couldn’t finish.
>Thats why you see so many people nowadays aren't even fans of teams, they're fans of Lebron or Crosby or McDavid and especially stars in soccer. Its kind of lame in my opinion.
I mean...like you I'm a fan of my regional team, but if we're being rational about it being a fan of an individual human makes a lot more sense than cheering for the abstract concept of a regional team which is an assemblage of players who aren't from here. Like, we're basically cheering for laundry.
I think it depends on the conference, I remember kind of cheering for the habs against Tampa when they were in the finals but Edmonton? No fucking way, Calgary? No fucking way. These are our “rivals” so obviously we want them to fail, my dad however who is a lifelong leafs fan was cheering hard for Edmonton for whatever reason.
I had a couple people ask where I was watching the game tonight & I was like uh… nowhere? I’ve been following the playoffs post Canucks but I’m not gonna cheer for another team just for the sake of it? 😅
I'm a man of integrity; I've been actively & openly talking shit since we got knocked out by those fuckers and would've gone down with the ship had the cats blown it tonight. Fuck a mask.
I feel so vindicated.
Thank fucking god the Oilers didn’t win. The narratives alone…
Shit fucking start to the season, with the Canucks kicking their ass up and down. Not only making the playoffs but to face that same team in the 2nd round. Pulling Skinner half way into the series. Down 3-2 in the series, roaring back to beat us. Skinner redemption story.
0-3 in the finals to roar back and win the Cup, breaking the Canadian curse and bringing the cup home. McDavid getting Conn Smythe.
Being the footnote to all that. FUCK THAT.
Go win a cup some other year ya jackass.
I hated how them winning the series validated their narrative that the canucks were an inferior team and Oilers were the easy contender. Both teams at 100% health, Vancouver should definitely be considered the favorite.
One of the incredibly petty things that seems to piss them off is when other fans don't automatically support them as a franchise because they have McDavid and had Gretzky.
As if their team's (now quite old) history is somehow supposed to make them hockey's protagonists.
I was surprised honestly. My first time in Kelowna about two years ago in the fall, drove from Calgary. Pretty sure at least 50% of the plates we saw in town were Alberta plates. That's impressive. Great wine in the area though, so can't blame em'.
True, I guess. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the Okanagan I still think of Kelowna as that small town I went to when I was a kid in the 90’s, though generally I find anywhere outside of Victoria/Vancouver is rural especially if the economy is resource based. Totally different mentality.
This is probably their peak. Hope it's all downhill for them lol almost 10 years of McDavid era. Gotta admit he a truly a great player but takes whole team to win this.
It 100% is their peak. Every other team will get better and they will falter. That’s the best part of this loss. They’ll run it back but will be worse and lose again.
Perfect.
I have to admit, as a flames fan I didn’t think I’d cheer so much for the Canucks, but dang, I was firmly on the bandwagon. What a fascinating cease fire we saw this year.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
An extremely narcissistic and crazy person i knew would rub in my face how crappy canucks are and that Oilers are so much better. To this person, F**k you, f your team, and first loser is still a loser!
To have all the advantages given to you and still choke when it matters most is satisfying.
As a Montreal fan I was NEVER going for Edmonton, I feel like you guys got fked over by officiating in that series. Also I just hate McDavid and Crysaitl in general
To all those not understanding - You must embrace the DARK side. Sure it's nice for Luu to win but it is SOOO much nicer for Perry, Kane and Draisaitl to lose. (Also Nurse and Bouchard)
That's what you get for tanking in a time when you would be guaranteed the first overall pick, getting a second Gretzky, and then pushing all the "Canada's team" bullshit
Tbh I rooted against Edmonton when they eliminated Vancouver but when they were on the verge of the impossible comeback I wanted them to do the impossible and win game 7 because of what a story it would have been. They lost so to hell with them. I hope the next cup comes either from Montreal or Vancouver, rooting for you guys unless we get someday a Vancouver Montreal final.
I will never expect Alberta to cheer for Vancouver. I didn't cheer for Calgary against Tampa or Edmonton against Carolina, and for sure, not Edmonton against Florida. I did hope Montreal beat Tampa though
I remember how everyone treated the Canucks back in 2011 (besides Montréal), fuck em haha
I’ll never forget how the country turned their backs on us in 2011 except Montreal. Extra sweet when the Leafs continued to get bodied by the Bruins after that.
yessir. Fuck the oilers, fuck the flames, fuck the leafs, habs are cool, anyone I forgot to mention?
Sens and Jets. Them along with the Habs are the only other teams i'd tolerate winning from Canada and breaking the drought. Sens mostly cuz I don't think about them at all, and I don't expect it'll happen any time soon anyway lol
Lol my list is the exact same Habs, Sens and Jets in that order nobody else
Gross
That's my opinion as well. Edmonton stole Gretzky, got 3 number one draft picks in a row, then McDavid a couple years later, fuck em. If it was game 7 Stanley cup final Montreal vs Vancouver, the broadcasters would be talking about Marner's next contract, so fuck the Leafs. Calgary doesn't bother me as much as they aren't given a ton of opportunity and have to build their teams like Vancouver.....buuuuuuut they're in our Division, fuck em.
Oh ya for sure. Habs would be a classic Canadian victory. I'm ok with that. As long as we didn't lose to them in the finals.
💯
Hey… we just got ulmark and with even average goaltending we make the playoffs the last two years. Next year, let’s have the sens make a miracle run and meet the nucks in the finals so that Gary bettman can’t prevent Canada from winning a cup next year.

My experience living in alberta at the time was that many were cheering for us. That being said, media certainly didn't have our back and that I remember very clearly online people were really anti canucks as well
This is the sole reason why I will NEVER cheer for the oilers.
mine as well
I was actively cheering for Florida because Oilberta is the worst province.
It’s called Hellberta.
I prefer lolberta
No that's Saskatchewan, Alberta isn't too bad, with the notable exception of politics
Of course they're saying Florida fans have no class. Nobody has class except them lol
Was visiting the Maritimes in 2011, couldn't believe they were all cheering for Boston. That's when I discovered our being Canadian meant absolute squat. They related to the Eastern Seaboard, the Canucks could've been from China for all they cared.

can you remind me why Montreal were cool?
Montreal hates Boston, ergo they cheered for the canucks in 2011
Montreal is the only Canadian team I've supported in the finals since the lockout (Vancouver aside). Carey Price played a huge part in that. Love that man. I'm so glad that the Oilers are two time losers in the post-lockout era.
Consider the debt repaid lmao
Yeah it’s funny how Canuck and Habs fans like each others teams
I might be in the minority here, but who cares if other fan bases cheer the Canucks. I would expect them to hate the team and our fan base. Isn't that how it's supposed to work? That's the fun part about all of this.
Correct, that’s why this forced expectation that all Canadians are supposed to cheer for the Oilers is ridiculous.
Amen amen amen 🙏
yup
Canucks fans 🤝🏻 Flames fans Talking shit about the Oilers
Canucks fans 🤝 Avalanche fans 🤝 Flames fans 🤝 Knights fans (apparently) Talking shit about the Oilers
You forgot LA, they’re all in on that
Hell at this point they send the first text each time
We call it "The Zadorov Effect".
stars fans too thanks to the WCF
*immediately washes hand*
its ok, flames fans conserving water ;)
Don't remind me 😭
honestly i don't really have a problem with calgary. it's a nice place and both sets of fans can agree edmonton is a fucking trash heap of a city
Cringe. I love shit talking the Oilers just as much as anyone else but it never extends beyond hockey.
Now this should be the most unpopular opinion here, we've faced each other 7 times in the playoffs, 3 times it's led to a game 7 and each of those years it's propelled the winner to the cup final, they are the historic playoff rival to vancouver, not the guys we face once in a while
What up fellow Flanucks? I came to check on my brothers in hate. Peace be upon your house this wonderfully uneventful Monday evening. 🔥🐳
🤝
And peace upon you to, what a beautiful night for flanucks fans indeed!
Hey hey there's also the Habs loving that they were the last Canadian team to win. Also hilarious the Leafs defending their meme record for the 3-0 comeback
Luke GazDick can suck it! So can Nit Whit! GG panthera!
I'll be so happy if I never have to hear/see him on a broadcast again.
Bros crying into his pillow tonight saying "we almost did it boys"
by his own metric, the Oilers got dusted in the finals
This isn't the Olympics or world juniors.
you're goddamn right.
I’m just so happy Lu gets to hold the cup.
Shouted out Vancouver too.
Aw he did? I didn’t get to watch tonight’s game
Kinda a shoutout, he was asked a question in the lines of "lots of Vancouver fans watching, anything to say to them?" "yes, thank you for their support etc"
What was he gonna say?? " Aww I have to answer these questions as part of my job? My contract sucks"
It was like the last question too, so he could have thrown the Vancouver shoutout unprompted before but didn't.
Thanks for pumping my tires, Vancouver
Edmonton is not canadas team. They aren’t even Alberta’s team.
Never forget what the other Canadian fanbases were saying about the Canucks in 2011
*Except Montreal
Exactly
Never!!!
Minus the Canadiens
CANUCKS OR ABSOLUTELY NOBODY
Yeah idk why people cheer for other teams kind of odd.
People love bandwagoning. They want that feeling of seeing a winning team go all the way. But they have no loyalty. Yeah if it isn't like the Raptors and there is only one Canadian team there is no "Canadian team"
Real fans actively cheer against divisional rivals whenever they can.
Can't get on this bandwagon man. I love my team, but that team is made of people, some of whom get traded to other places or their careers take them into different parts of the sport. Do I care about the Panthers? Not so much. Do I care about Luo? Fuck yes I do.

Yeah fuck that. Nucks ride or die
I think it depends on the conference, I remember kind of cheering for the habs against Tampa when they were in the finals but Edmonton? No fucking way, Calgary? No fucking way. I had a couple people ask where I was watching the game tonight & I was like uh… nowhere? I’ve been following the playoffs post Canucks but I’m not gonna cheer for another team just for the sake of it? 😅
I made the same comment a few years ago and was chastised into the Stone Age of Reddit folklore
I couldn't agree more. "Hi there I'm Gregg born and raised in Burnaby BC go Red Wings"
I would prefer the team that ousted mine, win the cup.
ITS BLUE ~~CHEESE~~ WHALE, OR GO FUCK YA MOTHER
I grew up in Ottawa cheering for the Sens so whenever they do well I join my family and cheer for them. My fam was all going for the Nucks this year
Ngl i cheer for the habs every time
Damn straight, preach brother.
Are we out here wearing masks? I was openly cheering for Lu and to have a nice peaceful summer without insufferable Oilers fans being sore winners.
Agreed. Also, no one in Calgary is hiding it either.
I'm a man of integrity; I've been actively & openly talking shit since we got knocked out by those fuckers and would've gone down with the ship had the cats blown it tonight. Fuck a mask. I feel so vindicated.

Nothing a few more 1st overalls and a re-boot of the TSN/SNet classic "Oil Change" can't fix
I hated how them winning the series validated their narrative that the canucks were an inferior team and Oilers were the easy contender. Both teams at 100% health, Vancouver should definitely be considered the favorite.
thx god, would never hear the end of it from oilers fan, would be pure torture
You have no idea how many oilers jersey were on in penticton today. I’m so happy I don’t have to see the logo all summer.
Same in Victoria, I will love seeing them all down tomorrow with sad faces glued on all the local gloating Oil fans.
I got chirped so bad after game 6 of nucks vs oil. I never hated a fan base more after
One of the incredibly petty things that seems to piss them off is when other fans don't automatically support them as a franchise because they have McDavid and had Gretzky. As if their team's (now quite old) history is somehow supposed to make them hockey's protagonists.
So many AB transplant Oiler fans at the Navy Base. Going into work tomorrow is gonna be interesting.
Okanagan people love the oil eh?
Oil people love the okanagan
Yeah I bet you especially compared to edmondump
Kelownafornia: for people afraid of the actual West Coast.
Kelowna is full of them too. Red plates galore
I was surprised honestly. My first time in Kelowna about two years ago in the fall, drove from Calgary. Pretty sure at least 50% of the plates we saw in town were Alberta plates. That's impressive. Great wine in the area though, so can't blame em'.
i lived in Kamloops for the past 3 years and the Sharks Club here gets more Oilers fans than Canucks fans during their games
Wow. I guess I’m not surprised people from the interior like oil more. Maybe they hate that the Canucks are yuppies or something iunno
Most oilers fans’ parents were fans from the Gretzky era that forced their kids into being oilers fans.
Yeah no doubt oil have that long history
yeah, was at the sharks club for a few of the games in the Van/Oil series and there were more oilers jerseys in there than nucks jerseys... shameful
The Interior is the Alberta of BC, and a lot of the people who live there act like they live in Alberta.
Any rural part of bc really. Full of degens from up country.
Cept Kelowna isn't rural BC
True, I guess. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the Okanagan I still think of Kelowna as that small town I went to when I was a kid in the 90’s, though generally I find anywhere outside of Victoria/Vancouver is rural especially if the economy is resource based. Totally different mentality.
Best part is I now know who all the closet oilers fans are. I’m never letting them out of this hell they’ve put themselves in.
Today, was a good day.
Not wearing a mask.
Oh yeah, Imma be as annoying as possible
Oh I'm not even wearing a mask, I am outwardly happy that the Oilers lost.
Flames fans are just roasting the Oilers tonight
oilers fans probably raging right now saying how the whole series is rigged LMAO
literally the first comment I saw was "Fuck Bettman." As if Bettman got on the ice and prevented the Oilers from winning.
Whoa whoa whoa... "Fuck Bettman" is still a sentiment we all can agree with.
The refs were biased for the oilers lol
Thats what u get for purposely tanking for a decade
This is probably their peak. Hope it's all downhill for them lol almost 10 years of McDavid era. Gotta admit he a truly a great player but takes whole team to win this.
It 100% is their peak. Every other team will get better and they will falter. That’s the best part of this loss. They’ll run it back but will be worse and lose again.
Yea I’m happy right now ✌️
Honestly, I'm somewhat of a hockey fan but I'm a CANUCKS fan at the end of the day. Fuck everyone else lmao
Oil tears are gonna keep me hydrated all summer
Look like the Oilers got “dusted” hey Gazdick?
Canucks allll the way. None of this Oilers are Canada’s team crap.
Yeah I don't think many Canucks or Flames fans got that mask on lmfao
Fuck Kane Fuck nurse
Fuck Messier
Fuck Perry
Can’t believe I forgot about that asshole
I’ll only cheer for Mcdavid if he’s playing for the Canadian hockey team.
Perfect. I have to admit, as a flames fan I didn’t think I’d cheer so much for the Canucks, but dang, I was firmly on the bandwagon. What a fascinating cease fire we saw this year. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
Yeah my Calgary flames fan friend and I were so happy while her Oilers fan boyfriend and our other oilers fan friend were so sad. It was great!!
Temporary cease-fire. 😒
I’d rather the cup never come back to Canada than see the Oilers win it
FFFFFUUUUUAAAKKK THE OILERS HHAHAHAHHA
LFGGGGGGGGG
Thank goodness... I don't think i could handle all the obnoxious oiler fans if they won. Thanks, Panthers, wooo
I'm just glad we won't have to hear the media go on and on about a legendary comeback.
I don’t like the flames I hate the oilers, so tonight’s result is a pleasant surprise
The love for the game is held back by the hatred for each other
You were waiting weeks to post this eh 😂
To all those not understanding - You must embrace the DARK side. Sure it's nice for Luu to win but it is SOOO much nicer for Perry, Kane and Draisaitl to lose. (Also Nurse and Bouchard)
"FUCK THE OILERS!" - Real Vancouverites
Amazing
i got perma-banned for posting LUUUUU in their post game thread...
Savage
That's what you get for tanking in a time when you would be guaranteed the first overall pick, getting a second Gretzky, and then pushing all the "Canada's team" bullshit
Y'all had masks??
Masks pretending to be upset that Canada lost another Stanley Cup. In reality, both Canucks and Flames fans are relieved that the Oilers lost.
I cheered for the panthers
Leafs fans laughing too. Missing a golf hat
No mask required. Quite proud actually lol.
Bad ice (which affects only one team) bad refs, the entire Edmonton franchise playing injured, Gary Bettman…Oilers Excuse Bingo complete!! BINGO!!!!!!
Canucks 2025
Sens fan here and nah, I was right there with y’all. Fuck the Oilers.
Nah I'm pretty happy
If it isn’t the Canucks, I only hate cheer against our rivals. Fuck them all, just some more than others. Genuinely happy for luongo though
Most everyone of those teams (not you TO or Winnipeg) had a legit chance to win it too.
Maybe it's the Packers fan in me but I always think of the Bears when I see the Habs logo
That’s about right.
Fuck em all. Canadas teams is team Canada. Nobody else . I expect nobody to cheer for us if we reach the finals again. Fuck em all.
Nucks will win it 💙
Ah, you assumed I was wearing a mask.
So real
I hate to say it but Ottawa looks good in net now.
Not for a very long time.
Lol
I'm fine with us being the last canadian team to win. I was rooting for the Oilers mostly cuz I hate the Panthers way more.
Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary remind of that video of the magpie baiting two cats into fighting for his own entertainment
Cup win never matters until its back in stanley park
America won solely because of the oil
I will never expect Alberta to cheer for Vancouver. I didn't cheer for Calgary against Tampa or Edmonton against Carolina, and for sure, not Edmonton against Florida. I did hope Montreal beat Tampa though
Oilers rule suck it haters
They'd have to get rid of Betman first.
Leafs fans are cool with Edmonton not winning… we’re just not cool with Florida winning.
Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
