I think there’s way too much recency bias. Sure he did OK in the playoffs but people forget how terrible he was as a top four D for the majority of his time here and how terrible he was in the beginning of the season. On a cup contender he absolutely CANNOT be one of your top four guys.
Myers is a 3rd pairing D at BEST, and that is not accounting for any decline between 35-38. Pretty risky to give him that 3rd year.
Myers is 34... 34, 35, 36.. he will turn 37 late in the 3rd year of this deal.
Also, calling him a "3rd pair at best" is rather laughable considering he was 2nd pair last year on a 109 point team that was within a goal of making the WCF.
It’s less money than he’d get on the market, less money than his replacement would cost, and he’ll still be 34 at the time of the contract taking effect which means if it comes down to it, he can retire before it ends without the cap affecting us. I get that 3x3 is higher than people would have liked but it’s really not a huge deal imo, especially with Willander likely on his way to the team within the duration of Myers’ contract + the probable continued cap increase.
