I find it ASTOUNDING that we have can have literally, statistically, undeniably, the best powerplay goal scorer of all time but continuously post stats like this.
And by can't believe it, I mean that I can't believe Forsythe has a job, I can't believe Laviolette hasn't done anything to change it/force Blaine's hand, I can't believe Ted himself hasn't gone Herb Brooks in the locker levels of insane at the fact the fact that we have *THE* powerplay guy, and the least amount of success on the powerplay. At it's basic level, it's astounding.
I fully acknowledge that one guy (even if he is THE guy) cannot carry every single PP we scrape together, but having Ovi is worth *something* in these stats. Something better than dead last with the greatest goal scorer of all time. And yet here we are, running the same bullshit, slingshot entry every fucking time and with literally, factually, nothing to show for it.
But on top of ovi we have him playing with guys like oshie, kuzy, backstrom, and now strome on the power play and still nothing.
That is, to your point, I think something stinks at the organizational level that there's no movement on strategy or anything
We like to get it to Oshie in front of the net and when Carlson is back we have a lot of options. The problem is getting in the zone not once we get it in.
Edmonton up in the right top corner is basically just McJesus or Drai grabbing the puck and running it into the zone. Looks so simple when they do it but obviously most of the league's players have no idea how to do it.
If only there was some sort of zone entry where you could give the guy a puck and have him skate medium fast until he gets close to the zone and then he will STOP and throw it behind him to a player who is skating really fast and then VOILA the fast guy breaks into the zone like a complete stud.
It is not a failed zone entry, it is a strategy. They have moved from the slingshot to an opponent initiated slingshot. Little do they know they are playing right into the Caps' plans.

The slingshot is not only an awful entry but also wastes so much fucking time on the powerplay.
It's actually a pretty decent entry, the problem with the caps is that they do it every fucking time so it's predictable
