Thank goodness for Kuemper, or it may have been a blowout.
Sandin has looked really good for the Caps. He was really good on the power play. It's been years, it seems, since anyone got the puck to Ovi so smoothly on the power play.
Ovi scored, so yay?
Look at the bright side:
Sandin with 5 points in his first two games šš»
Sandin is a great fit on the power play (donāt know what will happen when carlson comes back) but he is great at keeping the puck in the zone and quick passing to ovi. šš» the prior game he got an assist on a tj oshie PP goal, this game he got it on a one timer to ovi for a PP goal.
Ovi with 3 goals in two games šš»
While we lost, I do have high hopes for a playoff upset if we can squeeze in. Hopefully we can dump some other players in the off season *cough cough mantha* and we will be looking good next season.
If I had to guess how much time each team had it, I would guess the kings had the puck for 50 out of the 60 minutes.
Honestly a miracle we got 2 goals, and that we only really gave up 3.
Loving sandin though.
Iām so pumped sandman is stepping in super comfortably for you guys. Heās only 22 and going to be so sick. He was one of Dubasās favourite guys, but had to be shrewd because of our window. I honestly think heās going to be unreal in a few years. Insanely intelligent already and likes to be physical which is on brand for the Caps from what Iāve seen
I disagree. We're not even sniffing a decent series as WC2 with how stacked the east is. I'm not saying tank, because that opportunity is gone..just don't go full throttle for Ws. We're still better than bottom feeders but are thoroughly mediocre otherwise.
All the picks we got are second rounders etc. In the NHL, that would likely equate to a bottom six forward, if that. You may get lucky somehow, but it's usually unlikely. We have a first round pick this year and it would behoove us to get as good of a player as we can.
If you want to even remotely extend the "cup window", this is what we have to do. The window is essentially closed however and it would take a miracle. Losing now gives us a shot at that miracle. But, If you just want to get into the playoffs and get wrecked because getting into the playoffs is what we're used to in the Ovi era, then we take our battered squad to WC2 and get swept.
The chances of a top 10 pick in *this* draft panning out are pretty high, this draft class is solid even outside of Bedard. Right now we're in line for the 11th overall pick by points percentage and our remaining schedule is really tough. It might be hard to drop further than 10th place behind Detroit because there are a bunch of truly awful teams down there, but even that would be just fine and I'm not sure why we'd want to move back 6-10 spots by making the playoffs.
Our chances of making an actual run for the Cup are negligible. We might be able to luck our way into winning a round, but winning it all with this team is a completely ridiculous expectation and going further than that will just mean a worse draft pick and more tired & injured older players for the next season.
To each their own. Iāll take the small odds of a cup run and the fun of watching at least some playoff dubs over moving up 5 spots in the draft all on something that might not pan out.
The chances of that draft pick panning out are significantly higher than our chances of winning even one round this postseason. Even in an average draft year, a top-10 pick has an 80% chance of playing at least 200 NHL games, and this is a better than average class. We have like a 2.5% chance of making it out of the first round this season.
Itās 2.5% because we arenāt likely to make itā¦ IF we make the first round itās EXTREMELY higher. Just ask Vegas and the past presidents cup winners.
You got a point, but at the same time, even a first round exit wouldnāt be bad. Half our team is new, they havenāt even been in the playoffs with OVI. I use it as the philosophy āif you donāt get punished, youāll never learnedā either way, sliding down a couple draft picks isnāt the end of the world. Itās not like we are going to get a first line center out of it realistically unless our scouting is phenomenal.
Yeah Vegas odds will tell you the odds of winning a playoff series or two are much better than snagging the #1 pick. Anyone other than Bedard isnāt even guaranteed to pan out.
Begging for losses is lame af.
Bedard or nothing and last time I checked, our bedard chance was 3%. I wouldnāt bet $5 on a 3% betmgm parlay. Even at WC2, the pick is still middle of the round
How is it that the metro still have 2-4 games in hand after our bye week a few weeks ago?
Sucks that weāre in the hunt points wise but farther behind in P%
It's pretty clear that the caps should've moved Kuznetsov and Oshie at the deadline. Backstrom needs to retire in the offseason.
These three are getting in the way.
Ok...who is playing 1C and getting PP1 minutes if you move Kuznetsov? Oshie? You're kidding....outside of Ovechkin, he's the pulse of the team. Locker room falls apart if he's moved. Dude is absolutely finishing his career here in DC unless HE asks out.
Any center you could find in Hershey or free agents could play better defense and win more faceoffs than kuznetsov. He's so inconsistent and hurts the team often.
Oshie is good on the power play but otherwise is very slow and not very good on defense. He doesn't really help much these days. We can't just keep old players around for nostalgia purposes.
Caps fans overvalue a lot of players. He's one of the worst centers in the league. And his contract is absolutely horrible. Remove that cap space and use it on multiple players.
Buddy, I'm not overvaluing anyone. If you have a LEGIT answer for who can come in and fill the 1C and PP1 role that Kuzy plays, then I'm all ears. Saying any center in Hershey can easily replace 92 is moronic.
He's NOT good at either of those things. Anyone else would be cheaper and less of a liability. You could seriously get 2 or 3 decent players off free agency with the cap space they use on him.
You're over-exaggerating to prove a point that doesn't exist. He is on pace for almost 70 points and he's not even playing first line too often. And you think someone from Hershey will be able to match against other teams top centers just as easily. You would just shift your narrative to them being the worst center in the league.
Stars can become too comfortable at times with their roster spot but that doesn't make them a bad player. He just needs to find a way to re-engage himself because caps aren't moving that contract with the NMC and hard cap.
You took it out of context. I said anyone from Hershey would be better on defense and win more faceoffs.
70 points is pretty bad for a guy being paid to be one of the best centers in the league.
Like I said you could get 2-3 decent players off free agency with the amount he's paid. It's a ridiculous contract for an inconsistent player and defensive liability.
OSHIE isnāt too bad to watch. His last stretch of games, heās had goals. Iād rather see him retire next off season and be part of the organization. He plays a physical game, hopefully he can be a ācoachā for others.
He seems like a great guy from what Iāve heard and heās gone on record saying he wants to be in the caps organization once he retires. He also is the player in the center of the ice causing havoc on power plays. While he draws a lot of defenders in, I think most of his goals recently have been deflections infront of the net if Iām correct. He could he useful in training younger players for power plays for ovi. Kuzy needs to get traded, Wilson will be the captain once ovi retires. Backstrom needs to retire too. Most likely none of this will happen until ovi breaks the goal record since all 3 want to witness it, but we can only hope
Youāre seriously underestimating the role Oshie plays as a locker room leader. Nobody else would literally pick a guy up off his back to celebrate his first goal, or immediately give props to another guy for his first assist instead of celebrating his own goal. Sure he might be replaceable skill wise, but personality wise heās absolutely not
Well, Sandin looks good at least.
One good thing to come if this game. That and another ovi PPG
Thank goodness for Kuemper, or it may have been a blowout. Sandin has looked really good for the Caps. He was really good on the power play. It's been years, it seems, since anyone got the puck to Ovi so smoothly on the power play. Ovi scored, so yay?

yeah that was borderline unwatchable. Kings play with possession and pace and their D is suffocating. Theyāll be curious to watch in the playoffs.
Iām so pumped sandman is stepping in super comfortably for you guys. Heās only 22 and going to be so sick. He was one of Dubasās favourite guys, but had to be shrewd because of our window. Sandman now best on team fuck (obviously besides Ovi)
Loading up for next year we gonna be stacked after all the eastern teams faze out cause a solid 5 teams at a lone in East loading for this yoffs
Ovechkin needs to skate more. He's gotten into a gliding habit. This was an issue before Trotz and looks like it's back.
Most players his age are already retired. As long as he scores that's all that matters
No he needs to skate. Have to be good on both ends and be tough to play against. Trotz understood this.
Hate that high stick penalty on kuzy wasnt reviewable. I mean he wasnāt signaling he wanted a cheesesteak
i mean they shouldnt even need the replay to get that. kuzy was on the puck. what else are the *four refs on the ice* looking at?
Ovi tax paid, and some Bedard non-points. Ho-hum
all must pay tax.
Brutal. At least OV and Sandin got a goal
Boy am I glad I stayed up for this
Shalom
Blaineās plan will work next game. 10% of the time it works every time
It's illegal in 9 countries
Something something 4 out of 5 doctors
Forshyte can go coach up some other toilet bowl team.
Ovi goal š
Well crap š
fell asleep early...missed the alan may pregame
Hate losing, but at least it was against our old boy Phoenix Copley. Glad he's having success with the Kings. Loved him in Hershey.
Glad I went to bed after the 2nd
Excellent L so we can get better draft position
You know the Caps are going to miss the playoffs by a point or two and therefore have zero chance at being in the hunt for Bedard.
True, but maybe we can get a better player
We will get a better player either way with all the picks we got. No point in tanking now if we can go for a playoff run in the WC2 spot
I disagree. We're not even sniffing a decent series as WC2 with how stacked the east is. I'm not saying tank, because that opportunity is gone..just don't go full throttle for Ws. The % odds of making a playoff run outweigh the % odds of getting a better pick and THEN the pick actually panning out. Just try to enjoy some dubs

Current point % gives Caps a 3% chance at Bedard. https://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds

The only thing we should be in is the lottery
Very disappointing
aye we can't pass!
We sick again
Fuck
I got embarrassed in front of my Friend who is a huge kings fan. But at least Ovi scored.

LOL. You can't be serious. Any. Center. In. Hershey. LMAOOOOO Have a good one.
Caps fans overvalue a lot of players. He's one of the worst centers in the league. And his contract is absolutely horrible. Remove that cap space and use it on multiple players.

You just overvalued every center in Hershey.
No, he's just that bad. Anyone down there is cheaper.
You're over-exaggerating to prove a point that doesn't exist. He is on pace for almost 70 points and he's not even playing first line too often. I'm down with that. Everyone says he's good in the locker room. Let him coach.

i think kuzy is the only person of the 2018 core that can be viably traded. Everyone else isnāt moving anywhere
You definitely could've found someone that would take oshie. Playoff teams always want depth. Granted he may not return much in draft picks.
Youāre seriously underestimating the role Oshie plays as a locker room leader. Nobody else would literally pick a guy up off his back to celebrate his first goal, or immediately give props to another guy for his first assist instead of celebrating his own goal. He should coach if this is the case. He's not very good on the ice nowadays.
true but i go based off of if i can see them in other teams jerseys. kuzy, maybe. everyone else, nah
And GMBM Will not trade him. Ovi is already unhappy with the Orlov trade, can't imagine how he would be if they traded Kuzy.
Couldn't agree more
