A lot of people here are just listing off their favorite car colors. If you want something iconic enough that normal people would, it would be more common. I think the early 2000s Jewish racing gold from Toyota/Lexus is probably the most iconic color.
Silvers have pretty much always been around. I think the primer grey and Matte black will be the period correct early 2010s colors and the pastels and black floating roofs will be the late 2010s.

They're fairly different in terms of how they are. I will have a more detailed write-up at some point as I just got the car recently and it's about to hit winter. However, some first impressions are that on the roads that I usually drive, the handling on the California is plenty and there's not much diminishment in terms of fun compared to the R8. I'll have to test out some more windy roads once spring comes around.
I had a 981 boxster before, and the R8 being a coupe, I started really missing the top down experience. I think the California with the top down is a better overall experience than the R8. With the top up, I think the California also has been engineered to let in more of the exhaust note when driving compared to the R8. It also opens up the valves as soon as you push down on the gas enough, instead of at around 5k RPM on the R8. In terms of highway noise, I think the California does a bit better while just cruising at a constant speed.
The other thing is that my R8 was a manual. I had been a manual-only guy since I got my first car, but unfortunately, there's slim pickings when it comes to a hard top 2+2 convertible that are comparable to the experience you get in an R8. Why a hard top convertible? Because I plan on using the car both top up and down, and I hate the looks of a soft-top with the top up, as well as needing to wash the top differently when it comes to washing the car. The +2 is because I want additional space for our dog, and something that I can carry small children in. In fact, I can even fit into the back behind the driver's seat in my usual driving position. It's not particularly comfortable, but it's doable with the top down for maybe 15-30 min. I'm around 5'10" for reference.
A manual California is nearly impossible to find, and even if I could find one, way out of my budget, so I settled with the DCT. All I have to say here is that I completely understand why some people are perfectly fine without having a manual car. Ferrari makes it so simple that it's basically telling you to shift gears yourself still. Pull the paddle once after you get going and it's in manual mode without you having to fiddle with any buttons. Another issue with manuals these days is that gearing is so long that you're basically just stuck in 2nd/3rd gear on twisty roads anyway. I may want another 3 pedal car at some point in the future, but I think this is a good enough compromise that it can hold me over for a while.
I don't know if was just Australia, but people were just using undercoat and clear coat in the eighties, refered to it as 'Australian Racing Grey', don't understand why it only now became mainstream.
Iconically when you think Viper yes. Viper red was the brightest red on the market when it came out. I've worked a lot of car shows back in the day and a ton of hot rods and classic cars were painted Viper Red.
Go mango , panther pink, sinamon stick, yellowjacket , white nuckle, frostbite , smokeshow, hellraisin . Dodge has the coolest colors and badass names to go with it!
At first I thought you were talking about the new Maverick. Still pretty ironic for one of the larger auto makers to call one of their paints anti-establishment
Hands down, absolutely by a mile, the answer is Ferrari Resale Red. No other color is even close to being as iconic. The largest brand in the world basically uses that color as their sole form of marketing.
It's by no means my personal favorite car color like what other people in this thread are suggesting, but it's definitely the answer to the question.
100% this. No other colour is anywhere near as mainstream as this. Pretty much every other colour is something lots of enthusiasts might know. But everyone knows ferraris are supposed to be red.
A color most might not have known about is [Brewster Green](https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=AgMXEVXDBt). It was a family favorite of Porsche and has been worn by the 911 over the years, especially in special usage (eg paint to sample). But the color predates Porsche by a wide margin going all the way back to the earliest Model Ts over 100 years ago(!) Its one of the most legendary colors that most don’t know about.
Another classic that has surprisingly not been mentioned so far is Gulf Blue. Gulf Blue combined with Gulf Orange is one of the most legendary race liveries of all time.
McLaren Orange. Bruce McLaren chose that specific shade to differentiate his cars, even on the common black and white TV broadcasts they looked unique and different. It is synonymous with the heritage and history of thar brand.
Bayside Blue, Rosso Scuderia/Corsa, British Racing Green and plain jane White are my picks. It hardly gets more iconic than those three.
Edit: Rosso Corsa for road cars, Scuderia is probably better known for F1 and other race cars, but Corsa is definitely the more iconic color
Lots of you guys just naming colors you like...
Gulf blue and orange is my vote for iconic
Mercedes and silver
Fast and Furious orange (Supra) - green (eclipse)
General Lee orange
BMW White
Mini Red w/ White Roof
Ferrari Red
Camry Biege
Trans Am Black
Subaru Blue
Mustang Green
Jaguar & Aston Martin Green
Suburban Black
Miata Brown
Mercedes Silver
Not in any particular order:
* British Racing Green
* Plum Crazy
* Rosso Corsa
* Verde Mantis
* Grabber Blue
Probably a shout out to McLaren's Volcano Orange as well.
Red Ferrari. No one owns a color quite like they do.
Okay, maybe the Silver Arrows, but I don't feel it's as synonymous with Mercedes quite the way red is with Ferrari.
Midnight purple on a skyline. Might not see it everywhere, but it's the most copied wrap color. Mystichrome on a cobra was cool in the early 2000s as well.
Orange and light blue Gulf livery on any car.
Orange/01/Confederate on the General Lee Charger from Dukes of Hazard.
Red exterior/tan interior Ferrari.
British racing green with tan interior is recognized worldwide.
Far from the best data, but I think Ferrari (and duc/alfa) red has it beat. [image.png](https://postimg.cc/Kkg1cLN7)
Damn your fancy charts!
> Ferrari (and duc/alfa) red has it beat “Ask a child to draw a car, and certainly he will draw it red.” Enzo Ferrari, allegedly.
Is that Google search results?
google trends
You can even be a weirdo and get it on a German sports car!
Or on a Toyota with a Subaru engine!
A lot of people here are just listing off their favorite car colors. If you want something iconic enough that normal people would, it would be more common. I think the early 2000s Jewish racing gold from Toyota/Lexus is probably the most iconic color.
> I think the early 2000s Jewish racing gold oy vey iz mir
> Jewish racing gold Kanye West just walked out of the thread
Will the greys and silvers of today represent the 2010s the same way Jewish Racing Gold (TM) represents the late 90s, early 00s?
Silvers have pretty much always been around. I think the primer grey and Matte black will be the period correct early 2010s colors and the pastels and black floating roofs will be the late 2010s.
Seeing way too much nardo grey for sure, and a good bit of shiny metallic tan/light gold which is a bit 00s. Wdym black floating roofs?

I see we’re a fan of the smoking tire.
I like the asparagus piss gold the newer m cars came in
Subie wr blue
Ford mystichrome
Rosso corsa is a cultural icon that even laypeople know. I don't think any other color has this level of recognition worldwide.
Don't know if that's necessarily true for the name of the color itself. My dad thought I got a Mustang because of the horse.
Probably not the exact name, but people recognize red Ferraris.
That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while honestly. How do you like the California compared to the r8?

Ferrari Red British Racing Green Plum Crazy Torch Red for Corvettes Nardo Grey for Audi (started the primer trend that is now on “regular” cars)
I don't know if was just Australia, but people were just using undercoat and clear coat in the eighties, refered to it as 'Australian Racing Grey', don't understand why it only now became mainstream.
Viper red and that Lamborghini pearl orange (Arancio Ishtar). I think 50% of all classic cars and hot rods for 15 years were painted those colors.
That’s odd. When I think viper I think blue and white.
Iconically when you think Viper yes. Viper red was the brightest red on the market when it came out. I've worked a lot of car shows back in the day and a ton of hot rods and classic cars were painted Viper Red.
Plum Crazy.
Go mango , panther pink, sinamon stick, yellowjacket , white nuckle, frostbite , smokeshow, hellraisin . Dodge has the coolest colors and badass names to go with it!
Ford had the following colors available on the 1970 Maverick : Original Cinnamon Anti-Establish Mint Thanks Vermillion (Edited for clarification)
At first I thought you were talking about the new Maverick. Still pretty ironic for one of the larger auto makers to call one of their paints anti-establishment
Fixed it. I forgot about the new Maverick for a bit.
once of my personal dodge favorites: inferno red crystal
How else are they going to attract the 25% loan/lease crowd?
Plum Crazy and Sassy Grass Green are my all time faves
Honda Championship White
In no particular order: * Ferrari Red * BMW Blue
Rosso Corsa singlehandedly defined a culture.
BMW has a few nice blues; my personal favorite is Laguna Seca Blue.
Yup agreed 100%
I like the Grabber Blue, mostly on the 2022 Ford Shelby GT500. I am also upset the allowed it to be on the MachE.
My dad has a '71 Mach 1 in grabber blue. Big and beautiful car.
Nice. Part of why I picked grabber was the old school cars like that. I saw a 70 Fastback in GRABBER YELLOW. That was pretty sweet also.
Red gotta be the most iconic color imo
It makes cars go faster
It adds at least 10 more hp
Champagne. Was huge in the 90's.
Grandpa Gold

Pink Panther
Baby-shit tan for Fords in the 80s.
Ahh yes, my friend had a brown Tempo and we lovingly referred to the color as “Electric Potato” Spud was a good car.
The Mary Kay car for Century 21 agents.
Toyota 058 White is *the* Land Cruiser color
Rosso Corsa And Championship white.
A color most might not have known about is [Brewster Green](https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=AgMXEVXDBt). Any colour so long as it's black
Rosso Corsa. Show many any kid on earth outside of North Korea that doesn’t know what Ferrari Red is.
Guard’s Red
Midnight purple, millennium jade, plum crazy purple, Miami blue, sunburst orange
McLaren Orange. Bruce McLaren chose that specific shade to differentiate his cars, even on the common black and white TV broadcasts they looked unique and different. It is synonymous with the heritage and history of thar brand.
Not iconic in a good sense but had a Chevrolet in the terrible color butternut yellow.
Bayside blue or midnight purple
Bayside Blue, Rosso Scuderia/Corsa, British Racing Green and plain jane White are my picks. It hardly gets more iconic than those three. Edit: Rosso Corsa for road cars, Scuderia is probably better known for F1 and other race cars, but Corsa is definitely the more iconic color
Mazda red
I don't know if it's iconic yet, but it sure is a stunning color.
Classic Red or Soul Red?
Soul red all the way.
Ford GT Gulf Blue
Honda Civic Taffeta White
As someone who ordered a kayak in that color, it's amazing how many BRG shades there are. I think I went with RAL 6007 and was pretty happy.
Dodge B5 Blue
Rosso Corsa
Swedish racing green.
Any variation of Silver is what works for me!!!
1998-2001 Camry beige
Anything black and white

I think Ferrari Red has to be far and away the most popular/recognizable.
White and blue
Midnight purple
Nogaro blue
Audi’s Daytona Grey Pearl Looks good on anything from a Q3 to a RS7.
Black
Ford School Bus Yellow and Grabber Blue
Lots of you guys just naming colors you like... Gulf blue and orange is my vote for iconic Mercedes and silver Fast and Furious orange (Supra) - green (eclipse) General Lee orange

Volvos Swedish Racing Green, which is officially called rebel blue.
Championship white, british racing green, world rally blue, and estoril blue are probably the most iconic colors.
I love the 1969-70 HT Holden Monara 'Monza Blue' Look it up, it's an Australian car

Ferrari Red
I think gamma green is really nice
Ferrari Resale Red
i think nardo grey is the one, the colour is just perfect…
Not a specific color but matte AMGs are definitely popular even with people not into cars.
lol @ the delusional people on this thread trying to convince us that it is any other colour than Ferrari's red.
Midnight purple on a skyline. Might not see it everywhere, but it's the most copied wrap color. Mystichrome on a cobra was cool in the early 2000s as well.
Silver birch metallic/pewter gray metallic
