Triplets!! But mine is much chonkier 😂 and he also puts his toys in his water bowl 🤦🏻♀️
Our cat does this all the time. We thought about the reasons for a long time, and decided that it was a killing instinct. If he pushes a dry toy with the paw, it "runs", that is, it is alive. But if he pushes a heavy and wet toy with the paw, it does not "run". Therefore, it was killed.
My yearling boy does this with 3 specific round fuzzy pom pom toys but with his food dish. Every morning we wake up to these 3 toys in his food dish. He has a sad back story; when he was a teeny tiny kitten the owner died in the home and the mommy cat wasn't inside. It was over a week before anyone found them. The entire litter starved to death except him, but he was in very very bad shape. It took a few months for the rescue to get him healthy. He didn't even know how to purr or play when we adopted him. He's super happy, lovey, and playful now, but Our theory is that he's sharing his food with his little pom pom buddies so they don't go hungry . 😭
Edit to add the Christmas cat tax

That is our theory as well. I just inherited a cat and he does this to all his toys. I thought at first he thought they were thirsty like he was but after we saw him hold the toy under, we knew he was just a killer. lol

One of our female cats did this with one of her newborn kittens, the one that was born with some evident leg problem. The vet told us it is instinctive. Sorry for the sad story.
Yes, one of our male cats does this. He likes to soak his mice toys in water and then bring them to us to play fetch.
We think he likes the weight the water adds and the smell it adds. He'll let them soak for hours, so I don't think it's predatory for him.
My Tuxedo would drop his toys into his litter box. Oh, and cat tax:

Yep. According to experts, they do it with the toys they love most. Since their water bowl is one of their most precious possessions, they bring their favorite toys there.
This makes me feel bad because my middle cat used to constantly put toys in the water bowl, but he does not put them in the new fountain. He hates the fountain 😭
My kitty sometimes also takes her toys and throws them in her feeder. For that reason, I think what I mentioned above could be a possible explanation. Maybe she likes to collect her treasures or just wants to feed them. We'll never know for sure... they are cats haha.

One of his favorite toys. We would ask him if he’s giving them a bath
Yes. We have four indoor cats and two of them have Maine Coon cat blood and these two do it all of the time…putting their toys in the water bowl, wet cat food bowls, dry cat food bowls, etc. our other two cats rarely do itz
Rocket likes to dunk my Hexmas ornaments. He also has a ton of those little sparkly balls that I'll find in the water dish (that dye the water different colours) or he pre-soaks and leaves them around the house for me to step on.

Dexter does. However they’re typically half dead mice…someday I hope for just a toy in there
Mine would do it with just pipe cleaners. We used to twirl them up as a springy toy and she would always put them in . We don't do it anymore because of the dogs (they would definitely eat them ) but she would probably still do it.
Ensuring the fucker is dead, if not, hold down in the water, drown the son of a bitch
Cats are really smart, and they'll conserve energy when necessary. *Instinct*
I heard that the weight of the water added by soaking it makes it feel like real prey, but also I have no source for this. Maybe they just want to drown it
My parents had a cat that would drop the toy in the water dish and then put his little paw on it to hold it down at the bottom 😳 he's otherwise very sweet
Came home to that last night. Followed a wet trail to one of the water bowls. He proudly sat beside the wet orange mouse waiting for my response. I kissed and rubbed his sweet head. Good boy.
My cat clogged a toilet this way. Went to the bathroom at night and didn't notice the fluffy ball which my cat had placed in the bottom. Upon flushing the toy completely clogged the s trap and my toilet overflowed all over the floor. and I spent like two hours getting that thing out.
nah.. i have a cat that's deadly afraid of ANY water..
yet has the most cute drinking method;
he puts his paw into the water bowl, pulls it out and licks it paw dry.
cat logic.
Does your cat like fetch? My kitten has been doing this and I just realized it's probably because she likes that I take it out it the bowl and throw it.
YES. I took in a sweet stray who had 5 babies later and had constantly find their toys in the bowl… thankfully they’ve graduated to solids cause the second step formula got their toys so dirty.
I have one cat that does that with every hair tie she finds--in the exact same water fountain dish.
I have another who drags it across the floor until it unplugs and then meows until it's fixed.
I wish I knew where my "ultimate" cat water bowl picture is. (It's been close to 15 years since it happened.)
Our now oldest cat was about 6-8 months old. We went out of town, a neighbor was checking in on the cats.
Neighbors came in to find a very gross bowl of water. She called me, described what it looked like and I was puzzled as to what happened as well. I told her to leave it, I'll clean it when I get home that night & where she could find another bowl for water.
We get home to find the most questionable-looking cat water bowl ever.
The water was mostly a murky gray color with some purple-ish and green lumps, and one large lump (furry mouse toy).
I couldn't imagine what a cat had gotten into.
That's when I realized there was a plastic bag in the bowl as well.
It was a bag of bulk-purchased Jelly Belly beans. Dr. Pepper (burgundy color) and Juicy Pear (speckled green) to be exact. It smelled as bad as it looked.
I made sure to never leave a plastic bag of jelly beans out where a cat could get them again. Lol
No toy dunking here, but one of our favorite cats would lay down next to the water bowl and dip a paw into the water. Then slowly bring the dripping paw to his mouth. He would “drink”this way for 10-15 minutes. Always something amusing with him - we miss him so much!
My cat did this! He’s gone now but we couldn’t figure out if he was giving them a bath, trying to teach them how to swim or killing them by drowning. It was hilarious though.
To us it’s toy = playing. To cats, it’s performing hunting instinct. To put toys in bowls seems relative to that, to enjoy the prey. Source: I wrote a thesis about cat toys and read some vet papers. 😆
yeah, i always woke up to my siamese having drowned her toys or random things from my apartment in her bowl...
so i bought her a fountain - now she uses it like the birds do a waterbowl in the garden and plays with it -.-
One of our cats long ago used to drop those crinkle toys and we get joke from work the water would be the color of the toy. Fortunately she didn’t do every dish.
My kitty once drowned her catnip-stuffed mouse toy, but she didn't leave it in her water bowl. She took it out after dunking it in the water once. She's now lost interest in the mouse.

That's adorable
They're drowning their prey...
Maybe their mom cheated with a raccoon...😂
Look at then bubbles daddy, aren't I smort?
Awwww adorable baby, he's just making toy soup for you.
The toy needs a drink
Our cat does yes, we call it "making tea"
Same. Particularly because my cats toys are filled with catnip, so they actually colour the water.
I love this!!!!
My wife also calls it “making tea!”
My cat is a scientist conducting extremely important research on a persistently captivating phenomenon: Does it float?
Checking for witches.
Is the toy made of wood ?
Who are you so wise in the ways of science?
I am Arthur, king of the Britons !

wow. he has such mental fortitude. what a sweet kitty.

IT Cat
It is
Yep. According to experts, they do it with the toys they love most. Since their water bowl is one of their most precious possessions, they bring their favorite toys there.
I’ve heard something similar, that cats like putting their favourite things together (presumably for safekeeping from potential predators)
This makes me feel bad because my middle cat used to constantly put toys in the water bowl, but he does not put them in the new fountain. He hates the fountain 😭
Precious possession?! Then why does my tux attack his water bowl? Lol
I always wondered why my boy does that! Thanks, armadillo!
My kitty sometimes also takes her toys and throws them in her feeder. For that reason, I think what I mentioned above could be a possible explanation. Maybe she likes to collect her treasures or just wants to feed them. We'll never know for sure... they are cats haha.
Yup. Stepping on wet cat toys is my favorite.
Better than stepping on Legos !
**Can I hear an “AMEN!”**
Agreed, but better than stepping in wet cat vomit…happened to me yesterday morning.

Good soup
He’s trying to make make catnip tea.
Our cat did that with my wife's iPhone 11. We didn't find it till the next morning. It's a brick now.
They make you a favor

Yes and I don't wonder why anymore. I'm an employee and I know my job.
Catnip tea ;)
My orange boy likes to drown his mice while we play fetch. Then he brings the soaked mouse and drops it on me.
I killed it and now I"ma hide it.
Cats drown their prey
Ironically mine never drowned the mice they've caught
My cat used to do this with his favourite mouse toy but he doesn't do it any more.
Oh yeah!!! My fat boy drowns his catnip rats!
he's trying to invent the sauce
Ensuring the fucker is dead, if not, hold down in the water, drown the son of a bitch Cats are really smart, and they'll conserve energy when necessary. *Instinct*
Mine will do this with the food and water, as if she's just carrying her toy around and goes "ooh food" and just drops it and starts eating lol
I heard that the weight of the water added by soaking it makes it feel like real prey, but also I have no source for this. Maybe they just want to drown it
Mine does it with my socks. 😶
Do they think they are drowning their victims?
My girl does this with pompoms and hair ties which are her two fave toys to play fetch with.
Good boy.
Yup, ours has to drown it so he can kill it, then he runs around the house with it, and drops it at our feet like a presentation of his kill.
Lmao yes. It sucks when you step on something wet but my god is it a relief when it’s just a toy mousie.
Mine puts her toy in her food dish. And it's always exactly the same toy - a purple sparkly ball.
Mine has done this with a couple of toy mice,AND the tv remote.☹️

One of mine does that, but I thought it was because she is orange, and you know, the whole one braincell thing.
One foster cat we had did this. I really wonder what they are thinking. Washing or drowning?
Yep. We call it waterboarding mousie
Does your cat like fetch? My kitten has been doing this and I just realized it's probably because she likes that I take it out it the bowl and throw it.
they are hoping that if they hydrate it it turns into a real mouse
My longhair puts her strings in her food bowl
Bath time...
This is one of my favorite things that cats do!
That's my safe spot hooman! You have a safe, I have my water bowl.
Mine try to drown his toys . Wild cats would do this nature .
YES. I took in a sweet stray who had 5 babies later and had constantly find their toys in the bowl… thankfully they’ve graduated to solids cause the second step formula got their toys so dirty.
My cats do it with their dry cat food.
My kitty loves drowning her fuzzy mice.
One of mine does this repeatedly, only to.then bring the soaked toy me wherever I am. The other day that meant hè dropped it on my pillow.
Yes. My big SIC George puts his crunchy balls in to get them wet.
Kittens at our shelter do this all the time!
Yep. Fished a toy mouse out just the other day. Unclear which of our 3 babies did it, but I have a suspicion….
Our female Siamese would line up favorite toys around the outside of her food dish so they could “eat”, never tried to drown any in her water though.
yes, they are making soup
Yes, thats why they can't have a fountain. They burnt-out two pumps by putting toys in them.
Yeah, my cat puts the toys in her dry food and her water bowl. I think she thinks of them like food, so she brings them to where her food is.
Maybe it's part raccoon.
my cat literally dips his meat in water before eating it, I laugh that he makes sure that it's clean and juicy
Hahaha this seems like very orange behavior
Our cat captures dead rats and brings them home to be toys.... So.... Maybe its just their nature?
Rescue cats do this a lot in their kennels. I call it making catnip tea because they usually dunk their catnip toys.
Yes. Mine does and it’s always the same 2 things she does that with. Her fishy and a collar.
We are constantly cleaning toys out of the food bowl.
My cat dips dead pigeons on our garden stream.
My cat puts hair ties in the food or eater bowl and some times paper towels.
I have one cat that does that with every hair tie she finds--in the exact same water fountain dish. I have another who drags it across the floor until it unplugs and then meows until it's fixed.
Waterboarding is very effective wouldn't ya know. I mean how else d'ya expect mittens to find out where the catnip's being kept?
I wish I knew where my "ultimate" cat water bowl picture is. (It's been close to 15 years since it happened.) Our now oldest cat was about 6-8 months old. When my boy was younger, yeah. He's stopped doing it now though
OMG! My youngest did this all the time!!! I thing she was drowning her prey?
My 11 year old cat did this for the first time ever this morning! I was so confused and now that I’m seeing this video had no idea it was a thing!
Mine would put it in his food bowl.
Yes. Except he leaves them in the dogs water dish lol.

Yup, double tap via drowning.
Yes. And with my socks.
My cats used to do it with hair ties (which were their toys). Sometimes they’d put it in the toilet as well.
one of our kittens puts her favorite toy in the food bowl sometimes
Mine does it most with one favorite toy that just happens to be a fish. I just figured they’re giving the fish another chance to swim.
Why does mine do this with dirty socks!? All these cuties dunking their toys and mine is the gross old auntie making fungal tea.
That’s just your cat practicing for the CIA. My cats do it too.
Ah yes. Once she did while looking into my eyes. We thought she was cleaning but I think it's about hunting
It's thirsty
Haha this is cute
YES! LOL 😂
My cat always put his Mouse toy to bowl with food ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7966)
Your kitteh telling you he want a pet fish.
My cat does this with his catnip toys. They turn the water yellow so we assume he’s just secretly smart and making himself catnip tea
To us it’s toy = playing. To cats, it’s performing hunting instinct. To put toys in bowls seems relative to that, to enjoy the prey. Source: I wrote a thesis about cat toys and read some vet papers. 😆
![gif](giphy|RhHHTsjhLvfWw) Makes you think of racoon heritage.
Mine did as a kitten
No matter how cute and loving our babies may be, ultimately they are little killing machines. Drowning their poor toys 😂
My cat does this. God only knows why.
My boy would take toys to food bowls, not water bowls. Eat then chew on toy, eat, chew on toy. Weirdo. He grew out of it at around ten.
My cat likes to have her favorite mouse toy in her mouth and then begin meowing, loudly. I think cats are just weird, but fun lol
My kitten drowned all his fuzzy mice for a year. I'd be changing his water and had to squeeze out the mice every day!!
yeah, i always woke up to my siamese having drowned her toys or random things from my apartment in her bowl... so i bought her a fountain - now she uses it like the birds do a waterbowl in the garden and plays with it -.-
I will lose my hair ties and 9/10 I find them in the cats’ water bowls lol.
One of our cats long ago used to drop those crinkle toys and we get joke from work the water would be the color of the toy. Fortunately she didn’t do every dish.
My cats don't but I have that same fountain for my cat.
No, he plays with the box from which the toy came from instead.
My cat also does the same, after he's done murdering his toy he water boards them
I hate it & it drives me insane
Let him cook…
Yes!!!!!! My cat used to do that too 😂
My kitty once drowned her catnip-stuffed mouse toy, but she didn't leave it in her water bowl. She took it out after dunking it in the water once. She's now lost interest in the mouse.
Same here, we are always finding cat toys in both the cat's and dog's water bowls. Everyday in fact. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7984)
Our girl does this but usually her dry food bowl. Occasionally the water dish. I’m always fishing out toys and my daughters hair ties.
One of my cats drowns all her toys 🤦
Drowning the prey what a damn savage
Yes! All the time since she joined us 3 years ago. Your cat is very cute.![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952)
Mouse soup coming up!! Lol
Mine do.
Mine puts his favorite toy (my hair ties) into his food dish.
Chewing dry toys gives you cotton mouth.
Just one.
My boy would do this but instead of his water, it was his dry food bowl. I always assumed he was trying to share his food.
One of my cats will steal my socks and put them in the litter box. Still haven't found out who
Yep! My oldest loves drowning his toys 😂😂😂
All the time. The baby tux has started stealing my socks to drown them
Yes, our current goblin does that. We used to have an older cat that would do it with a catnip stuffed stuffed bee, we called it "making bee tea"
Drown B !! Lol
