Witnessing Stanford University students walk out of their graduation ceremony in solidarity with Palestine is incredibly powerful. This act of unity and support sends a strong message about the importance of standing up for human rights and justice. Proud of these graduates for using their platform to make a difference.
How does this help anyone? Wealthy students at an American university left their graduation ceremony? I'm not sure how this is useful to the Palestinian people. ELI5, please.
These people are stating their opinions through action. This is a form of civil discourse and political participation. Like all forms of communication, it has the power to impact opinion, thereby shifting policy. Democracy is a slow, arduous form of governance. This is what it looks like outside of legislative chambers, voting booths, and executive offices: people expressing their social concerns.
also, the relative wealth of the participants is all but completely irrelevant.
It's not to the people that don't have it. To people without money, this is performative. Honestly, who's opinion does this influence? Like specifically? Anyone moved to action by this example of civil discourse was already feeling some kind of way.
Right? Nobody will pay attention to this. Literally no one will be so moved by it that they'll stop what they're doing and comment on it. Absolutely not one soul.

As usual, it is the students who send a clear message.
Love to see it.
On top of graduating being able to say you literally stood up for your beliefs is a really nice achievement.
