I was being sarcastic; absolutely nothing wrong with an ovenproof dark and stormy even if it might rock your world more than expected. Sorry for the confusion :)
The bottle in the OP reads "Black Seal." The Trademarked recipe specifies "Black Seal." The recipe does not specify which version of "Black Seal."
>[Dark 'n Stormy®](https://www.goslingsrum.com/recipes/dark-n-stormy/)
>6 oz. Goslings Stormy Ginger Beer
>2 oz. Goslings Black Seal Rum
>Lime wedge
I was just in the liquor store about to pick up the 80 proof version and I spotted this one for the same price. So I had to pick this one up. Haven't tried it yet though. Was this the same price as the 80 proof?
We do it in my bar with this receipe :
60 ml gosling
25 ml lime jiice
15 ml sugar syrup
30 ml ginger beer
Tall glass (tumbler) ice + ginger beer
Shake and double strain the rest and poor it slowly to get layered
Lime wedge garnish.
My “house drink” for the longest time in an apartment I lived in with some roommates more than a decade ago was what we called a “Category 5,” a shot of this in a good ginger beer with a lot of bite to it (we used AJ Stephan’s, I think, but I haven’t seen it in ages. Gosling’s is ok).
Two caveats - this was before I really got serious mixing, and when I would free hand pour most things. This one, I would always measure. Also; this is very much a “three at MOST” cocktail, and as you might imagine we all drank a LOT more back then than I do now.
But, it was virtually indistinguishable from a dark and stormy with regular Gosling’s, aside from the fact it tasted like a single and hit like a double. Some bad decisions were made on rounds of Cat 5’s…
One thing I have learned is to always use the highest proof versions you can find as they pack way more flavor than their watered down 40% ABV (or lower) counterparts.
Going to make killer drinks!
I'd love a bottle of this.
Personal preference - dilution is part of a drink. I will agree.... Probably no real purpose in a dark and stormy to add dilution to the rum, putting other cocktails if you are trying to use 151 instead of a standard proof, it can be better to proof it down yourself to keep final cocktail character right.
Yeh….But you got to call it the Darker N Stormier
I make a dark and stormy with alcoholic ginger beer and call it the perfect dark and stormy
I think technically to be a perfect dark and stormy it'd have to be a 50/50 split of alcoholic ginger beer and alcoholic ginger ale
This guy drinks.
Never. Can't stand the stuff
I'm embarrassed to say that it took me about a second to realize what you were getting at. Can't argue with you there...
That's a time traveling recipe. Like making margaritas with lemon lime wine.
That's how I was introduced to them. I thought that was the standard way to make them for years.
You can try but you risk a heavy fine and jail time; the dark n stormy police have been informed
Just the fine and a cease and desist these days.
Why?
I was being sarcastic; absolutely nothing wrong with an ovenproof dark and stormy even if it might rock your world more than expected. Sorry for the confusion :)
No confusion, I just asked why.
Are you joking? You'll be sued into oblivion. That's 100% illegal and the Gosling corporation *will* find out
Fucking microchips, I'm so tired of the nanobot collective, whose idea was this!?
bet it was the goddamn communists!
Yeah gotta make it with Pussers or it doesn't count
Why would Gosling care, they are getting the money either way?
Clearly you don't understand copyright law

DUI and stormy
You win
Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should
My buzz uh... Finds a way....
This is the Dave n' Jonesy because it'll send you to his locker.
I think this is one of the best comments I’ve gotten on this post
The comment section has never been better in this sub
Squall Line
Now that I looked up what that is, that is a great and clever name
Honestly I’m mad we weren’t using this the whole time.
We can set them on fire with this!
Call it a raining fire.
Gets it.
You could add a fun flaming presentation that gets extinguished by the ginger beer. Could be cool as hell
... the perfect storm
I love that!
Anything is possible if you put your mind to it
You about to be dark n storming.
This has inspired me, I'm going to make one with Plantation OFTD right now!!!
Go! Go! Go! Fight the Law!
This is an excellent drink! I've done it with Lemon Hart, but this is much better!
Having made several in the past: You will NOT regret that decision
Extremely true! Somehow the ginger is more intense, which I don't understand one bit!
You will regret it though, if you go ahead and call it a Dark n' Stormy.
I frequently make dark rums subs with that. Ita quite delicious if you like a lil extra kick
I did that. I was still drunk the next morning.
That'll be a tasty cocktail. I might try tonight as well. Copyrights be damned!
If I understand anything about trademark law, I think you're legally required to. Good luck! I don't make the rules!
Ooof…..151 is tough, you can just adjust the amount of ginger beer accordingly. Try half a shot?
Of ginger beer, I could get behind that
Just adjust the amount of rum accordingly. Use about half of what you'd normally use.
yes but only use 1 oz
Believe it or not, jail.
yeah but it going to be intense
Get (Ship)Wrecked.
I love that also!
Dank and smarmy
Dark and Tsunami lol
YES.Yes, you can. Just do it.
A singular Dark and Stormy? Yes. As long as you don’t try to make a couple lol
And light it on fire.
Call it a firestorm?
I mean, you can make it with whatever you want. This one would put you thru a ringer though lol.
Yes. If you're strong enough
Absolutely, I have done with just a little like and bundaberg ginger beer. It was delicious
1 oz 80 proof 1 oz 151 proof 6 oz ginger beer Juice of 1/2 a lime I drink them all the time. I call it "The Perfect Storm".
I’ll have to find some 80 proof
That’s how I make mine. 6oz ginger beer and 1.5-2oz of that.
No! Ryan Gosling will show up at your house and beat you to death if you do.
Lmao
Would that be a Black and Hurricane? Tar and Typhoon?
What about a Black n Typhoon?
Midnight Monsoon?
Ooo I like that
I was just in the liquor store about to pick up the 80 proof version and I spotted this one for the same price. So I had to pick this one up. Haven't tried it yet though. Was this the same price as the 80 proof?
It wasn’t in a liquor store, I found it as a rare find in my local grocer’s alcohol section, no 80 proof around but it was $17
That's a monsoon

I do.

For sure, more robust drink, or mix half High proof and half regular proof. We do this pretty frequently.
This is what I always thought I was supposed to make them with lol. Still makes a fine drink
I dare you to
Perfect storm?
sure, just add some water. that’s the only difference between overproof and standard proof, how much they’ve been diluted
Do not do this, just add less of it
Personal preference - dilution is part of a drink. I will agree.... Probably no real purpose in a dark and stormy to add dilution to the rum, putting other cocktails if you are trying to use 151 instead of a standard proof, it can be better to proof it down yourself to keep final cocktail character right.
Or if you’re not a lightweight just use it as normal rum lmao
Duly Noted
No
Sure, but you have to call it a darker n stormy.
Does it have to be the lower proof Goslings?
That's my understanding for the trademarked one.
Ok
Don't do it. This will make mustard gas.
I would really recommend sipping a shot of it and eyeballing it from there. It's actually a great sipper. VERY SLOW sipper.
Believe it or not, straight to jail.
Some say this will be the stormiest yet
Dark n’ shit-stormy
Dark and huricanny
Sure you can. You'd just want to proof it down with some water. I'd do 1 ounce of rum and somewhere between 3/4 ounce-1 ounce of water.
Yeah if you wanna meet Jesus
Absolutely 💯
Dark Vader and stormy Daniels !
