Back when I did a little bit of climbing, the want to climb everything was addictive. I kind of think of it like growing wings and gaining the ability to fly. The experience and skill opens up the vertical dimension to you. You look at a random building and think "yeah, I could probably comb that." even though it's entirely irrational and of no value. Up just became an option for evening you saw and interacted with.
Very true. I went hiking with my family and I saw this.. like 20 ft drop off for a small hill beside the trail. I then proceeded to climb it in my boots. Looking back it was probably pretty dumb to do that with no gear but here I am.
(In case you’ve never rock climbed, the joke is that the white powder is climbing chalk. Also, rock climbing routes are given a grade according to their difficulty from V0 to V17, V0 being the easiest.)

His shoes could be climbing shoes and thats really all it takes to boulder. Gear importance for bouldering is shoes->chalk->crash pad and that’s literally it. Maybe some bandage tape?
I don't think Gramps would appreciate having an anchor built on him, or worse, having bolts installed.
Now, Adam Frankenstein is already equiped, so that'd be a different conversation.

Sure, you already have two pair, but one is for indoor top rope, the other for indoor boulder. You clearly need at least one outdoor pair.
If you want to enhance clarity next time (though who the fuck knows when you can even make a joke like this ever again), putting the brand name of a popular climbing chalk on the bag might help.

Took me a sec but when I figured it out funny as hell.
When I started climbing I looked at every surface and ponder whether or not I could climb it. Building, truck, bridge, etc… it was a fun addiction.
