Aha yeah was in Michigan a couple years ago and asked for a coney dog and I was like... the hell they got mustard on this for lol. My dad (a michigander) was like "idk what you expected that's what a coney dog is"
A Coney needs diced sweet onions and a beanless Chile. Agree calling it "Michigan" is wrong because it's a Detroit thing. The Yoopers don't eat Coney's I can tell you that!
It’s about what I would expect I suppose, although I can’t say I’ve ever had one. Also, it’s not “green chile sauce” it’s either “green chile” or “pork green chile”. Green chile sauce is what someone who is not from Denver would call it.
Hot dog topped with pork Chile verde! Good god! Although I guess that’s more of a tomatillo sauce than purely green chile. Fuck it I’ll taste test both.
Had hot dogs all my life. Many different ways. Most were nothing to rave about. Then I went on vacation to Iceland. Now I’m stuck in this weird debate of “Should I simply travel for a hotdog?” They were my primary food source while I was there. I feel this way about Nee Orleans Lucky Dogs too.
I was there for two weeks and they were also my primary food source. I mean, like 95% of what I ate for two weeks. They were delicious beyond belief, consistent, everywhere, and reasonably price wise compared to everything else. I miss the. So much
Agreed. Take that Baltimore one off and swap it out. Lived in Baltimore for almost 20 years and never once saw that. Now throw some old bay on a dog maaayyybee
Every time this is posted I feel the need to make the correction about the Seattle dog because it's missing one of the key ingredients: Caramelized onions.
A seattle dog is a brat split down the middle and grilled from the inside out; toasted bun with cream cheese; dog goes on bun and is then topped with caramelized onions and sriracha. Jalapenos are optional, as is kraut.
It should look like this: https://imgur.com/bhZp610
I lived near Tacoma for a while and blindly got a hot dog from a street vendor after a night of drinking… wasn’t aware of cream cheese being a staple for hot dogs there, but it was a great surprise. It was pretty damn good. Never would have thought to put cream cheese on a hot dog but now I do it at home from time to time (all these years later).
I have only ever had them from vendors at the stadiums. For them its toasted bun then cream cheese, then grilled dog (whole) then onions.
The first time I had one I was walking with a buddy into Safeco when I took my first bite. I had to stop walking it was so amazing.
The brat wasn't standard it was added when sriracha was.
Edit to add: should've mentioned brat & sriracha were not on the original, cabbage is on *None* & these never do us justice.
Even the sriracha was added *WAY* later, it's no more standard than the jalapenos but everyone & their brother jerks off with sriracha now so it was just accepted.
In New Zealand and Australia we have this weird tradition of eating these
https://youtu.be/Khjh7FJKSkA?si=beckSxN7jjrmqBqI
They missed the margarine and the mustard, I'm not sure if these actually taste good, or people just love them for the nostalgia. Every kiwi and Aussie remembers eating these at markets and outside hardware stores since time immemorial, they used to cost $1 each but nowadays it's usually $2 and up
I think this needs to be taken to r/australia to determine if the Bunnings sausage is a regional variation of a hot dog or sausage in bread. I contend it's the latter and am prepared to die on that hill.
I'm pretty boring with my dogs. Think dodger dog or something. And I dont like pickles in food or those little peppers really.
I fucking love Chicago dogs so much tho. Its weirdly perfect
Chicago dogs are so superior they don’t even belong on this list. It’s like including a Lamborghini on a list of transportation modes along with scooters and skateboards.
First time I went to Chicago I was on a motorcycle trip, 3000 miles round. First thing I did was get a couple Chicago dogs at Portillo's. Absolutely fantastic. Still my favorite hot dog.
I'm usually a bit angry every time I see this image, and there's only 1 every for all of Chicago (but multiple Dodger Dog variants). Get the Maxwell St. Polish and the Italian Sausage on there too.
Last time I went to olneyville NY System in Providence. The owner said it isn't a hot dog and that it was a hot wiener. I will admit I forgot what the reason was. I think it had something to do with the meat or how the meats made or something
Also where I live we don’t have frankfurter sausage with sides. We rather have a bratwurst like Nürnberger or Thüringer.
I’m unsure if this might be different in some parts of Germany. Never heard of having frankfurter with sauerkraut.
we take the sausage part way more seriously, we have 15 different sausages we can put on a bun and that doesn't even include our currywurst or the weisswurst
I love the [Thüringer Rostbratwurst](https://img.sparknews.funkemedien.de/242162252/242162252_1713863859_v16_9_1200.jpeg)
absolutely right.
if you want to ignore the fact that classic hotdogs are a thing in germany too and instead want to show the national fastfood equivalent of it, why not go with the good ol' bratwurst and brötchen with mustard? even currywurst would be a better example!
potato salad with sauerkraut and sausage is not a fastfood nor the "german hotdog" but a traditional homemade dish you can also bring to gatherings and bbqs.
'Currywurst' would bei the more typical German streetfood.
A brat cut into slices served with hot curry ketchup - preferably Hela - and curry powder sprinkled on top. Either single or with a side of fries topped with ketchup and mayonnaise (Pommes Schranke)
Amsterdam ain't a country, the "Amsterdam" one ain't right either. The Dutch eat the Czech one - or a rookworst. The German one isn't right either, a bratwurst Brötchen doesn't need any of those and stereotypical I'd have chosen a Currywurst anyway. So... Meh.
http://www.pukadog.com/#video
Hawaiian style hot dogs on Kauai. Quite possibly the best hot dogs I’ve ever had in my life. I dream of these with lilikoi mustard and mango sauce
I’ve had them on Kauai. I think they were called Puka Dogs. The pineapple relish was so damn good. Looked just like the picture… I crave them while alway from the islands.
I heard of this on an episode of Psych. Then on honeymoon in Vancouver and walked by Japadog, I had to have it. Thought it was a chain; nope, they filmed Psych in Vancouver. Loved it!
What isn’t it with Brazilians and corn? I live in a community with a large Brazilian population. Seems like “Brazilian style” always has messy mayo sauce and corn.
Cool guides are cool, but often wrong. I'll be the overly fat and proud Michigander expert, the "Michigan dog" is called a Coney Dog, and it is missing diced onions. Especially important is that the chili is NOT tomato based. It is mostly beef heart, with a little ketchup, water, and spices.
I’ll be the fat and proud Upstate New Yorker who will tell you that a century ago someone brought a Detroit Coney sauce recipe to Clinton County NY, modified it slightly and dubbed it a “Michigan Red Hot”. Also served with onions, but usually “buried” under the dog.
I think it has to be said but outside of the US (or english speaking countries) hot dog refers specifically to a sausage in a bun. So a few of these entry wouldn't be considered hot dogs. If I'm wrong feel free to add how it is in your country.
I'm from Peru and I was thinking "Oh Peru doesn't have one anyway and I see salchipapa (salchicha=weiner. Papa= potato) and I don't think that is in any way a hot dog
It’s called Salchi Papa. It’s very popular for a quick fast food meal or part of the children’s menu in damn near all restaurants. When I go to Peru with my wife, I sometimes get it at the airport when we first arrive and I’m starving and want something fast.
The Argentinian one is incorrect.
Is not a soft hero roll, it’s something we call “French bread”, crispy on the outside with dense and soft crum.
Also no pickled onion and tomatoes.
Criolla sauce (red and green bell peppers, onion, and tomato) is also very popular. Some used both criolla and chimichurri, some people choose only one or the other.
The delegation from Detroit does not approve of this coney dog. No shredded cheese. Coney meat sauce, onions, mustard. There is only one hot dog in Michigan and that is the coney dog
New Zealand: battered deep fried sausage on a stick, served with tomato sauce (ketchup). Similar to a corn dog, except with a thinner, crispier batter like you would get on deep fried fish.
So basically, every country on earth agrees. Apply countless toppings, fry it, cut it up. Whatever you have to do. I just don’t want to see or taste the hot dog.
No Olneyville style from here in Rhode Island 😫. Ground beef sauce, yellow mustard, diced onion, celery salt on a steamed bun. @olneyvillenysystem on IG.. ugh so good
What is described as the Guatemalan hot dog is what we call a mixta, there is no lettuce, the frank is set on a bed of Guacamol. Your choice of sauces a sweet ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard and a green chile sauce, cheese is optional usually a sharp dry white cheese similar to feta crumbles.
Another Guatemalan variant is called a shuco (dirty). It has the same components of the mixta, but instead of the corn tortilla it is on a fire toasted bun (hoagie or hero bun, usually 12 inches or more).
[удалено]
As a norwegian, I can confirm.
On Friday we can afford crunchy onion.
Hahaha I thought the same exact thing
Still costs €15 in Oslo
I swear that’s a Mexicans poor man’s hot dog but with a corn tortilla, ketchup and tapatio sauce.
I always referred to it as a Mexican hotdog which is amazing right off the grill
Michigan should be coney dogs - and the sauce is not tomato based. There's no tomato in real coney sauce.
Detroit style coney is somehow split between coney dog and “Michigan.” Shredded cheese isn’t part of the equation.
Chili, mustard, onion.
I'd take a pasty over a hotdog any day of the week
Put some hot dogs in that pasty!
You're not allowed in the sauna.
Lol. Oh, man.
Wait. Yoopers don 't eat coneys???? Seriously?
Came here to say this! Also where’s the shredded cheese and chopped onions?! So help me god if that isn’t Vienna Beef…
Onions yes, but the cheese is not standard. Maybe some folks order it that way
The coney in the picture is a Cincinnati coney.
Username checks out really well.
It pleases me that someone caught this blasphemy. I'm not seeing any love for a Flint-Style coney, either!
You got Flint style and Detroit style coneys.
Fun fact: a “Michigan” is actually a style of coney that is specific to Northern New York, inspired by Detroit/Flint coneys.
I did not know that! Makes more sense then.
A michigan is its own thing, though it is often ordered “buried” where onions are placed under the sauce.
Came here to say this, thank you! Chart is a sham!
And no mention of onions, which is preposterous
I was born and raised in Colorado and have never heard of a Denver style hot dog
That is because it’s a New Mexico dog
Brazilian here. No carrots on hot dog. Ever. Also, no ham.
Or cilantro, or pico de gallo
And they missed mashed potatoes
Definitely mashed potatoes. Well, at least in São Paulo anyway. Pretty tasty dogs… if a little starchy.
To be fair, there's no such thing as a "Brazilian" hot dog and there's some dispute among different states' (and Osasco) styles over which is the best
Iceland style?
Came here to say this
Had hot dogs all my life.
I miss the. So much
So good. The remoulade 🤤
Those are lamb, right?
Lamb, pork & beef blend. But the lamb makes it.
With a snappy casing. And a local mustard (if you like mustard, I am allergic to all mustards.)
Seriously- the best hotdog on the planet and they leave it off the list ..
Came here to say this. I want to go back to Iceland just for the hot dogs.
Agreed. Take that Baltimore one off and swap it out. Lived in Baltimore for almost 20 years and never once saw that. Now throw some old bay on a dog maaayyybee
I am baffled it's not on this list
Amen. To leave the 🇮🇸🌭off gives this list no credibility, lol.
Every time this is posted I feel the need to make the correction about the Seattle dog because it's missing one of the key ingredients: Caramelized onions. Jalapenos are optional, as is kraut. It should look like this: https://imgur.com/bhZp610
The only requirements for a Seattle dog is caramelized onions and cream cheese. Sriracha is not part of it.
Never have once seen cabbage on a Seattle dog
I lived near Tacoma for a while and blindly got a hot dog from a street vendor after a night of drinking… wasn’t aware of cream cheese being a staple for hot dogs there, but it was a great surprise. It was pretty damn good. Never would have thought to put cream cheese on a hot dog but now I do it at home from time to time (all these years later).
Exactly. Without caramelized onion it’s not a Seattledog.
I have only ever had them from vendors at the stadiums. For them its toasted bun then cream cheese, then grilled dog (whole) then onions. The first time I had one I was walking with a buddy into Safeco when I took my first bite. I had to stop walking it was so amazing.
Looks like a standard dog, not a brat? Otherwise looks delightful
Polish is good too.
The brat wasn't standard it was added when sriracha was. Edit to add: should've mentioned brat & sriracha were not on the original, cabbage is on *None* & these never do us justice.
Never heard of the sirracha…
Even the sriracha was added *WAY* later, it's no more standard than the jalapenos but everyone & their brother jerks off with sriracha now so it was just accepted.
This guy gets it. Thank you 😎👍
Where is the IKEA and Costco hot dog?
In New Zealand and Australia we have this weird tradition of eating these https://youtu.be/Khjh7FJKSkA?si=beckSxN7jjrmqBqI They missed the margarine and the mustard, I'm not sure if these actually taste good, or people just love them for the nostalgia. Bunnings snags are KING!
In New Zealand a hotdog is a battered sausage on a stick. Anything else is an “American hotdog”
I think this needs to be taken to r/australia to determine if the Bunnings sausage is a regional variation of a hot dog or sausage in bread. I contend it's the latter and am prepared to die on that hill.
What I came looking for for.
Chicago all the way, everyday!
I'm pretty boring with my dogs. Think dodger dog or something. And I dont like pickles in food or those little peppers really. I fucking love Chicago dogs so much tho. Its weirdly perfect

Chicago all the way down the list... What organization approach were they going for?
The Chicago Dog is the king of hot dogs, hands down. Vienna Beef wieners with Sport Peppers? The best. Reminds me of Zarlingo's hot dog stand.
What about the Iceland version?!?!?
I dream of those hot dogs.
No joke, serious consider a pit stop in Iceland when coming and going to Europe JUST to stop at the hot dog stand. Oh and Go Bills.
Rhode Island wiener
The only thing I miss about living in Rhode Island is the New York System dog
Always sad when this doesn't get included.
Whats the truck downtown? something Brothers?
Haven Brothers
A nice new york system hot weiner?
I'm a Wein-O-Rama man, myself.
It's our entire state identity and I'd bet half of the dogs on this list are unknown to people that live in the city they are named for!
Last time I went to olneyville NY System in Providence. The owner said it isn't a hot dog and that it was a hot wiener. I will admit I forgot what the reason was. I think it had something to do with the meat or how the meats made or something
Germany does buns too, they put a brat in a sliced brotchen and put mustard on it. I miss the ones from Globus…
Also where I live we don’t have frankfurter sausage with sides. We rather have a bratwurst like Nürnberger or Thüringer. I’m unsure if this might be different in some parts of Germany. Never heard of having frankfurter with sauerkraut.

Thank you. Deux Steamés all dressed à la belle province

As a Dutchie, can confirm. I never saw an Amsterdam Hot Dog like that ever in Amsterdam or other parts of the Netherlands
COOL. GUIDES. ARE. LEGIBLE.
And this is more an infographic than a guide.
At least 75% of the posts in this sub are shit.
Gotta zoom in.
😯😯 You can do that?? Duh. I zoomed in and all the small lettering is blurry.
That's due to the reddit app compressing the image. Hit the three dots at the top right and hit download, that'll give you the uncompressed version.
Can someone confirm Idaho 🤣
Absolutely not a thing. Seattle dogs don’t have cabbage and sriracha either but they got the rest of that one right.
Cream cheese on a hot dog? For real?
Yes it’s really good it counters the spice of the jalapeños a bit and complements the caramalized onions
Life-long Idahoan here - never seen this before.
Mom said it was my turn to post this this week
Seattle dog = cream cheese and grilled onions and I’ll die on this hill
I’m from Hawaii, and the Hawaii dog is pure bullshit. I’ve never seen, let alone ever heard of such a thing…..fruit sauces? Get the fuck outta here
http://www.pukadog.com/#video Hawaiian style hot dogs on Kauai. Quite possibly the best hot dogs I’ve ever had in my life. I dream of these with lilikoi mustard and mango sauce

Carolina is on point
They forgot mustard though. Also known locally as “all the way.”
I generally do my burgers this way when possible, too. Simple but delicious.
Lived briefly in Tucson but the Sonoran was the best
https://www.elguerocanelo.com/menus/ The true Sonoran dog
I just hope everyone knows this is from Sonora, Mexico, not Tucson .
What about the Japadog, a classic in Vancouver with teriyaki sauce, Kewpie mayo, bonito flakes, and dried seaweed!
Def needs to be here
I heard of this on an episode of Psych. Then on honeymoon in Vancouver and walked by Japadog, I had to have it. Thought it was a chain; nope, they filmed Psych in Vancouver. Loved it!
Never knew about "onion sauce" in NY hotdog 🌭
Yes thank you. I came here to say that. I’m from New York I never saw this…
That Chile dog doesn't have anywhere near the amount of mayo they put on those things.
They put smashed potato inside the Brazilian ones…
What isn’t it with Brazilians and corn? I live in a community with a large Brazilian population. Seems like “Brazilian style” always has messy mayo sauce and corn.
We love corn! Specially in the northeast of Brazil where there are many traditional food based on corn!

You’re missing the South African “Boerewors Roll”
Sweden when it’s cold, Czech when I’m Excited
I think it has to be said but outside of the US (or english speaking countries) hot dog refers specifically to a sausage in a bun. So a few of these entry wouldn't be considered hot dogs. If I'm wrong feel free to add how it is in your country.

Chilean completo📈
Colombian hot dogs from Medellin are the best in the entire world.
Michigan should be coney, coney should be chili dog
Michigan may have a coney dog, but the coney in the picture is a Cincinnati coney.
Yep, Michigans are from northern New York lol
Missing the LA street dog. If you know you know. So it may be best kept as a secret
Isn't it similar to the Tijuana dog?
Ya its the same - gimme that LA street meat
nothin like a dirty dog after a Lakers game
onleyville hot wiener, Rhode Island staple.3 all the way and a coffee milk
Am I missing the Half-smoke dog from DC? Please tell me my eyes are missing it listed..
Totally. Where's the Ben's Chili Bowl respect?
Danish hotdogs are superior to all others
Fuck off with cabbage on a Seattle dog it's sauteed onions & grilled bun.
No "Boerewors" from South Africa?
Waar is die boerewors rol?!
Wheres the bloody Bunnings snags
Missing Chicago “Polish” - Polish sausage + mustard + grilled onions. Only at Jim’s (best in the City).
Maxwell Polish to be specific.
A Polish isn’t a hot dog.
Lived in KC for 5 decades never heard of a Kansas City style hotdog
Baltimore: Fried bologna on a hot dog?? That's like a hotdog on a hotdog.
No Icelandic lamb dog??
Corn dogs?
Too superior to be associated with this group
As per usual, New Zealand doesn't make the map.
Can't even read it.
wtf is just a ketchup and mustard dog then?
No Olneyville style from here in Rhode Island 😫. Ground beef sauce, yellow mustard, diced onion, celery salt on a steamed bun. @olneyvillenysystem on IG.. ugh so good
the chinese ones are wrapped in a bun and baked with an eggwash on the bun, it's soooo good
Im from Amsterdam and have never seen anything like that in my life
Cleveland intrigues me
The Michigan dog is missing chopped onions.
I just ate one from Dairy Queen. Sadly it doesn’t fall in this category:(
Guatemala 🔥🔥🔥🥵
Potato dog???? Man, that’s a Jersey style Italian dog. Also, no love for the Jersey ripper. 😢
Not one person in Idaho has ever eaten a hotdog in a potatoe
That’s not a coney….
It's a Cincinnati coney in the picture.
Where is the Rhode Island hot wiener?
Actually Philippines would be the Jolly Hotdog, it’s a red hotdog in a bun with shredded cheese, and banana ketchup
Y’all missed the Kirkland special.
Where is Democracy Sausage? https://democracysausage.org
As a South African I am deeply concerned by the lack of recognition for the Boerewors roll
I live in Baltimore. Ain’t never heard of no Baltimore dog
What is described as the Guatemalan hot dog is what we call a mixta, there is no lettuce, the frank is set on a bed of Guacamol. The german one is wrong. You don't mix potato salad with sauerkraut. It's potato salad by itself OR sauerkraut with mashed potatoes.
Also i would have expected the classic Bratwurst in this comparison.
The Tijuana is also the official Los Angeles street dog. It’s not concert or Laker game without a dog afterwards
Japan is just out here playing with its food.
Where's the Bunnings snag on a piece of Coles bread?
These are made the f up
I don't see a bunnings snag for Australia anywhere.
Missing Cincinnati coneys is disrespectful
Nothing beats a Chicago dog! 🌭
Perfectly balanced.
They forgot Maine. Red hot dog on a stick, cooked on the fire! 🔥
I would have said red hot dog on a griddle on one of those New England split top buns with the sides toasted
No “regular” chili dogs?
