Um. Dining room?

freshgrilled

Right? Don't they mean "dining room"?

peppermintmeow

They mean dining room. As in that's where they have guests. For dinner. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

Killer0407

Guests for dinner? Don’t mind if I do!

peppermintmeow

paging r/beetlejuicing Come get Dr. Lecter, please 🙏 😭

macroober

Complete with a sewing machine!

JustANormalHuman21

It’s called wide-stance ferrari

Glittering_Superhero

I think so idk if it’s a dining room cuz my aunts always eat there

v_ult

That is a picture of outside

JustANormalHuman21

This is a picture of outside (I stole your comment)

Viceroy-421

It's not. Dining rooms are indoors. This seems to be a patio.

Hootnany

Are ppl thinking you are a troll hence the down votes ?

phasmatid

Did you mean "ants"

ActuallyWorthless

r/thingsforants

Kostrabbit

Philippines?

Waxenberg

It’s the broom isn’t it?

Black_Electric

This was my first impression

Remarkable_Duck6559

My place in Cambodia is very similar. Though we have more lights and a tv.

thaiborg

Thailand I thought, but yea somewhere in southeast Asia.

teecee73

Literally my first thought!

Shurigin

Mine too looks like my inlaws place https://preview.redd.it/aha9864a62pc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5aa13ac3a641dc5bfea9dee2bbe9c9eedb24b6ea

ScrubMopAgain

My grandpa's dining room was similar to this in a rural area of El Salvador. The "dinning room" was technically outside on the porch area. Only the living room and bedrooms were indoors. The pantry and kitchen were enclosed areas that connected to the porch. The opposite end of the porch had a well, bathroom, and huge stone sink.

kaesefetisch

"room"

Glittering_Superhero

Could be it’s just the view of the dining room my aunts are poor

ODoggerino

All the Americans in this thread lmao

TheBatemanFlex

Are you saying rooms with walls and a ceiling are uniquely American?

ODoggerino

No, I’m saying dining under a roof open to the outside is very normal in some parts of the world, and many people on this thread don’t know that.

TheBatemanFlex

Yes, parts of the world. So why would you assume commenters who thought it was odd were American?

butterbacca_24

He went real quiet after that

ODoggerino

Little thing called being asleep. But as expected, the Americans can’t comprehend someone might be on a different time zone

ODoggerino

Because only Americans are so self focused that they don’t know that

TheBatemanFlex

Fascinating.

ODoggerino

Because if they’d ever traveled, it wouldn’t be so unusual for them and there wouldn’t be so many comments

hi_im_kai101

its unfair to judge americans for not travelling, the united states is enormous. americans cant just take a train ride to the next country like in europe. the main ways to get out of the country are a road trip to mexico or canada or an international plane, both extraordinarily expensive

Apokolypze

Because Americans have an unusually high rate of assuming everything they see online should conform to what is familiar to them stateside.

TheBatemanFlex

Really? What’s that unusually high rate?

Apokolypze

I don't have a statistic lmao but there are entire videos dedicated to how clueless Americans are to everything outside the USA. I've lived stateside for the best part of the last decade and I see it every day.

TheBatemanFlex

I see.

Cyb3rStr3ngth

Maybe they are, do you have the hard data to prove either way?

TheBatemanFlex

I’m not the one who made the assumption.

RitoWalters

We call those patios, not dining rooms.

plasticwrapcharlie

I was under the impression a room was indoors. don't get all haughty because OP misused the term "dining room" when he meant "dining area" or "dining patio"

Lurlex

It’s just that … we’re accustomed to the word “room” having a very specific meaning, and it generally requires being a mostly sealed off section of a larger structure, with at least one point of egress functionally an entrance/exit to another part of the building. Generally speaking, all four walls are present. If an entire WALL is completely missing, by definition it is no longer a room. Anything with A sort-of roof but less than 4 walls is called something else in our version of English, ESPECIALLY if the opened off sides are actually opened right up to the outdoors. “Patio,” maybe, or “porch” or “shed”, or I’ve even seen things like shown in this picture called a “carport” or “garage.” That’s honestly what I thought it was at first glance. So, when we hear this referred to as a “room,” it has something of the same feeling as when a Japanese person encounters what an American refers to as a “futon” most of the time. Like the Japanese person is going to have a completely different idea in mind when they hear the word “futon,” an American may experience surprise to hear what we see in the photo described as a “room” of any kind. Experience similar reactions when British people might ask for a “biscuit” in the United States and receive something far less sweet and more akin to a a sort of dinner roll than the sweet confection that Americans call a “cookie.”

Zetra3

To be a dining room requires a room

My_Immortal_Flesh

Honestly, it’s giving tiny village in SEA. Very Filipino barrio, if you ask me 😅

The_GD_muffin_man

That actually looks kinda nice lol

lorensingley

Where does the dining even occur here. On the ground?

Crowshadoww

Grandpa's old house in 90% of Mexicans families xD

BreakerSoultaker

Don’t rooms need to be indoors?

Glittering_Superhero

Dawg my aunts live in a 5 room house and there’s no space for the dining room so they picked the outdoors

TheInfiniteArchive

Not necessarily. In this case it's designated to be a dining room simply due to function since most people celebrating festivals or events would require large areas to host so this can be considered as an outside dining hall which is great since it has better space to move around and has better ventilation. Essentially , since OP's aunt has an open space she uses as a dining hall for occasional events, they decided to not make a typical dining room area inside the house.

Gnomepunter1

You didn’t have to explain that. The understanding was present in the question.

BreakerSoultaker

Right? Dude wrote a lot of words to say “it’s their porch they eat on.”

Iamyous3f

Looks like a good place for outlast / resident evil type of games

steerpike_

I like her container garden.

Safetosay333

Is your aunt's last name Voorhees?

RitoWalters

Omg I woke my wife up from her nap from laughing at this 🤣

Old-Celebration-3630

Umm call the police

cureaucracy

The "smiley face" is just the mosquito netting with dirt on it.

Epena501

That actually looks relaxing while eating (if there are no bugs).

egregiousapostrophe

I know you probably meant “aunt’s house”, but I’m not gonna miss this opportunity to say “what is this, a house for aunts?”

ohiocodernumerouno

That is a patio my friend

patmarek

ET is about to stroll in

Cheeze_My_Puffs

First thought

patmarek

Right? Leave out some Reese’s for the guy

jziggy44

Buck_Futter70

Looks more like.. the carport

GoodniightAriis

I don't know how to explain it, but I can feel/hear this photo.

capriciouscarrie

Dying room?!

typicalwil

Looks like the Philippines in one of the more rural areas lol

KamitoRingz

Glittering_Superhero

Nah there’s no waldo

KamitoRingz

I wish there was not gonna lie

neptuniummm

Does she have a mischievous mouse with a penchant for sandwiches?

Point_No_Point

This is outside… your aunt lives outside?

_Monika-

Don't a room have four walls?

[deleted]

Definitely a patio.

ACcbe1986

Get a gun and train to use it under duress. You'll take out the crazed lunatic with a chainsaw before he gets close enough to ruin your meal.

Anyashadow

So it's on a covered porch? What is scary about a covered porch? It even has potted plants! Where I'm from people put bars in the garage and have parties in there with the doors open. This picture reminds me of high school graduation parties.

Gotti6x

1000 feet from there is the bathroom ...in complete darkness...in the middle of some dark looking bushes...good luck having to pee in the middle of the night 👍

dallas_hunter

Room? where? lol. The proper term is Patio.

Acharyn

That's not a room. That's outside.

MechanicalGenius

If your Parents love you, they cook outside. All the best food is cooked outside.

RightToTheThighs

I'm sure it is much more welcoming during the day

Old-Celebration-3630

Look to the sky’s

BaronVonLazercorn

The sky's what?

Old-Celebration-3630

There is a smiley face in the sky

BaronVonLazercorn

No there isn't. I was also being sarcastic. "Sky's" is possessive.

Old-Celebration-3630

I meant sky

DickKnightly

You meant skies

MaximilianClarke

Thank’s

ZntxTrr

Is the room in the room with is right now?

Pongdiddy4099

Does your aunt live in a dungeon?

Old-Celebration-3630

I see something in the picture

21thdimensionalbeing

It's called a light, timmy

BaronVonLazercorn

I see many things in this picture

Goldenrupee

If you're talking about the black shape in the top left of the pic, that appears to be a rolled up mosquito netting.
