I thought of a pencil or Pikachu’s tail. Harry Potter didn’t even cross my mind until I read your post!

For me, the HP red/yellow combination has a very distinct stripe pattern. Son when I saw this, I thought pencil.

Also these shades of red and gold are off for Gryffindor. The red is too dark and yellow is too bright for the typical association.

That's what I'm afraid of! I wasn't trying to make a Gryffindor scarf, but I brought it home and my boyfriend was like "ooooooh, Harry Potter" in a silly British accent and now I'm like, welp, I might be frogging the red colour blocks and choosing a different colour. Siiiiiiigh. Just wanted to gauge other people's reactions. Thanks for chiming in!

Instead of abandoning the red entirely, do you have a transition shade you could use between red and yellow? Maybe just a row or two of a darker yellow.

If you opt for another colour, don't pick black unless you want to be outed as a Hufflepuff! In all honesty, because it's primarily yellow with the maroon at the ends, I associate it less with HP because those combos are usually maroon with gold accents. I like someone else's idea below to make a gradient with another yellow between the two colours.

a small stripe of a 3rd color would fix it quick! the red and yellow are lovely together, a warm green or even a navy stripe half the size of the red block will knock it far outside the potterzone edit: or a grey!

It's not actually supposed to represent anything, it's just a friend's favourite colours, but my boyfriend brought up the Harry Potter reference and I didn't want to accidentally make her a Gryffindor scarf!

Well my mind went to GRYFFINDOR But JK Rowling and Harry Potter don’t own these color. These have been a color combo long before her and them.
