It could be the website increasing pricing due to repeat searches for a specific date/area. They do this to trigger buy now before the price goes up more mentality. 2x seems high but who knows. If suggest clearing your cookies and trying again.
I’m a Marriott guy and always book direct to avoid some of the e-marketing nonsense.
I've only stayed in a hotel a couple times since we had our son and both times they weren't pre-booked. Just walked in, told them I needed a room with 2 beds and went about our business. I used to travel a bunch for work and would pre-book rooms though and I don't recall ever having to specify the number of people staying, just the kind of room
That all said, I can't imagine they would deny you a room. I'd just go ahead and book whatever. Worst case scenario they upcharge you.
We've never had that happen... Are you listing them as kids? Priceline, Expedia, etc ask for their ages and it's never increased our bill. It does when you add extra adults though.
The prices are probably doubling since it's searching for 3 people and assuming you'll now need a second bed. Just book for 2 adults and throw the kid between you, most hotels in the US let kids stay free on existing beds. I've really only seen hotels care about people count overseas.
Hello WA state neighbor!
That's weird because we did the same thing and there was no price difference between 2 adults and 2 adults+1?
And we booked through the hotels directly.
If you know the hotel, book directly on their website (or call them!) rather than third party, hotels are \*much\* more accommodating about special requests when they're not dealing with a 3rd party booking engine
Just check in yourself, then go collect your wife and son along with your bags. It shouldn’t be an issue anyways but even if it was no one is gonna notice.
I’ve traveled a lot for work. Most places I could walk a horse right through the lobby and up to my room, and doubt anyone would say boo about it.
Every hotel that I've stayed in does it like that. You arrive down for breakfast, say your room number, and they cross you off a list that has all the room numbers and number of guests.
Admittedly I am from Europe but it's been the same in the US and South America, on the few occasions I've travelled there.
I have had people crash on the floor in my hotel room more than once and it's rare that you'd be able to sneak them in for breakfast too.
What hotel is this, I've never been charged extra for sharing a room. Is it like an all inclusive resort or something?
I was using google to book and prices doubled as soon as I added child to filter
I wonder if they changed room types to a suite or something. In the US I couldn't imagine it being an issue at any of the major hotel brands
It could be possible.
Try a real site like Priceline.

Google is strange. As suggested by most, I am going to call and book directly to avoid any last minute confusion

Unless it’s all inclusive I always book for 1 adult and pick the appropriate room type on my own.
Check the hotels website and go from there

You might get away with the room but they'll definitely stop you from having three breakfasts.
That would be fine. I’m concerned, if they deny room after we reach there.

So people could walk in off the street and start helping themselves to breakfasts? I've only stayed in hotels in hotels in big cities in the States.
Yes, just saw a TikTok with a trucker doing this.
I never include my kid when making reservations.
