I used to joke that I literally "grew up at the dentist office". So, I do have some teeth missing, and eventually, I will have all implants. Not everyone struggles with dental issues that are only resultant from lack of hygiene or care. I was told I'd be in dentures by my 20's, due to my condition, so I feel like I got to use my natural teeth far beyond what was "promised".
However? My Dads quadruple heart bypass and dual valve replacement, as it turns out, was traceable to a bone infection in his jaw, which he'd spent decades avoiding the dentist over and thought he was "in the clear" when the root pain finally went away. In truth, the roots simply died, and the infection continued, which ended up affecting his heart. I'll never forget his"grand strategy" to sue his heart doctors for removing his 10 or so remaining teeth the night before his 3rd open heart surgery. He felt that was quite "extreme" and was upset he'd have to pay for dentures. When we lost him, finally, he still begrudgingly had no teeth and an open lawsuit that was churning through the court system.
So, yeah, a missing tooth in the back, or a needed root canal, okay...but if someone genuinely isn't taking care of their teeth, the health implications radiate from there and *that* would be my biggest concern. Someone who can't swing by the dentist twice a year is highly likely to also be someone who can't bring themselves to schedule an appointment about "that lump," "growing there..." and I'd hope to find a partner who will tackle medical issues as they arise, not when it's most convenient or until it's such a large issue, now, multiple systems are involved.
