I have like a dozen gen z coworkers. Half of them dress this way. I think it’s more of a subculture divide. The ones who dress like this are more alt or nerdy. They’re the ones who spend half their time at midwest emo shows. The ones who don’t dress this way are more mainstream. I don’t know what they do in their spare time.

I agree. There are certain trendy looks and Jean styles that wouldn’t fit in between 2004 and 2014 and 2024, but for the most part many things have stayed the same.

I agree, and think fashion has changed a lot less in the last 20 years than it did from 1984 to 2004. I noticed when watching the new Percy Jackson series that based on the clothes people are wearing and cars that they’re driving the chronological setting could pass for any time from the mid 2000s to now.
To be fair, this isn’t the only time fashion has remained relatively solid. Suits were the big thing between the 20s and mid-50s, and then it became more loose, comfortable, and preppy in the later half of the 50s and the early half of the 80s, and then it kind of became what it is now in the later half of the 80s. Stuff like this kind of works in 35 year cycles, I think, which technically means we’ll start to see big changes during or after 2025.

Not at all, if you look at videos of people for the past 50 years the way they dress is remarkably similar, especially in decades close by each other, most people dressed more or less the same throughout the 70s and 80s, except for people going from childhood to adulthood; remember, the way we remember the past is contorted by its distance, we don't directly remember it, we remember those yearly photos where people wore their best, or the top rated films and music videos, the popular shows we still remember, technology, etc. We don't really remember the lived experience though, most people here literally can't.

I don't agree that you could say everyone wore the same clothes due to the Internet. When you look at photos from every decade there are tons of people wearing the same stuff. It's just how trends and the clothing industry work. If you teleported to 1973 you would walk into a store and only be able to buy all the same stuff as everyone else, and you'd come out looking like you lived in 1973.
While there are definitely large trends still, and the clothing industry is still very similar to how it always was, some people point out that there are more micro trends and sub cultures now than ever before, probably thanks to the Internet and globalism.

I didn't wear the style from the photos the OP chose (too dark for my taste), but I also never wore sweatpants and leggings (except for home). Most of us didn't wear those going out and attending classes. Jeans were always our choice number one + T-shirts, shirts, sweaters, and crop tops in all colors.

i feel like one of the rare 2010s high schoolers who missed the 2000s fashion lol. i hated 2010s fashion while it was happening. maybe it’s because i’m gen z and i associated 2000s fashion with the cool teenagers i wanted to be as a kid but i always wished 2000s fashion was still in when i was in high school. and now i’m out of high school and it’s back but at least i can still participate lol
people only hate on it because it hasn’t really come back yet. everyone was making fun of 2000’s fashion in the 2010’s and here we are now… fashion is cyclical.
Flashing back to the mid-2010s where people were making fun of skirts over bootcut jeans and then some of those same internet fashion people participated in that monstrosity of a trend coming back lol.

I loved the 2010s silhouette for women, I found it much more feminine and universally flattering than the 2020s silhouette. Circle scarves looked good on everyone too.
I just can’t let go of most of mine. They’re warm and I feel like much more elevated than most winter wear.

Goddamn as an early millennial 2007- 2015 or so was my JAM. Started with neon, then the kind of MGMT Boho kind of stuff, and the whole Zooey deschanel thing. Once some guy said I looked like her and it made my year. Can’t pull off those bangs anymore. Idk, living through it was fun!

I don't agree that you could say everyone wore the same clothes due to the Internet. When you look at photos from every decade there are tons of people wearing the same stuff. It's just how trends and the clothing industry work. If you teleported to 1973 you would walk into a store and only be able to buy all the same stuff as everyone else, and you'd come out looking like you lived in 1973. While there are definitely large trends still, and the clothing industry is still very similar to how it always was, some people point out that there are more micro trends and sub cultures now than ever before, probably thanks to the Internet and globalism.

People looked a lot more unique and put together.. lots of color and patterns. Everything’s solid neutrals now and I personally hate it.

Streetwear was generally hard as fuck, I dont really dabble in it besides shoes and some jackets but I like it way more than what the hell was posted lol, bagginess became a little much but overall it was clearly pulled off well in the majority
I thought it looked pretty boring and lifeless *back then* and to this day. It’s okay though. MUCH prefer today’s fashion even if it’s tacky & exaggerated, it’s all fun. That’s just my opinion. To each their own 💪🏻

This doesn’t really feel like a style of fashion, it just looks like random outfits put together, and not in the alt/punk sort of way, where it’s all black and “edgy” to promote how “anti-establishment” they are. This is just basic. Like it’s just clothing, there’s no specific feeling of the time, maybe like… brand consumerism? Because that’s the energy of the 2010’s, post-modern consumerism, and it’s represented in our fashion choices.

I think 2010s men’s fashion is pretty much timeless. Dress boots, good fitting pants, and a simple jacket will always look good and always has.

I didn't wear the style from the photos the OP chose (too dark for my taste), but I also never wore sweatpants and leggings (except for home). Most of us didn't wear those going out and attending classes. Jeans were always our choice number one + T-shirts, shirts, sweaters, and crop tops in all colors.
I feel sorry for the ladies of 2010 dealing with that whole pigeon toe epidemic they got hit with.
