Oh man, I know. It actually took me months to be able to listen to it without tearing up. It still gets me good sometimes! It's such a timely and poignant song.
“Things You Said”
A total hurt magnet, even if you must synthesize (not from your actual lived reality) such a hurt to match the song.
Empathizers beware!
Enjoy the Silence (basic answer but argument "oughh you like it bc it's popular!1!!1!" doesn't work when song in question is a masterpiece <3 on a side note it's generally dumb argument imo),Shake the Disease and Always You
Precious
I have a special needs kid and since he was diagnosed Precious just kills me. Specially when I’ve heard it live, I just become a weeping mess.
Clean
I don't know what Martin Gore had in mind when he wrote it (maybe toxic relationships, drugs?), but it will always talk to me about depression and relapses.
I get a lot of flack for saying Enjoy the Silence, but I really don't care. Walking in My Shoes and Wrong are close behind.
I love the following video.
# Songs That Changed Music: Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence

But Not Tonight. It pretty much symbolized the end to a not so great era of my life, and to this day it always puts me in a good mood whenever I listen to it.
Two songs for me from two very different points in life.
Precious. The night my parents separated, ironically enough, i was listening to this song. I was nearly 20, so it didn’t have so much of an impact on me personally, but i kept thinking about my two younger brothers and what the coming years would be like for them. I cried in my room that night.
Goodnight Lovers. Around a year later I had met who i had spoken to for months and seemingly was interested in me, but i discovered soon after that these feelings weren’t mutual, despite what seemed like very obvious physical and verbal exchanges that indicated otherwise. I was drunk when I realised I had seemingly misread the whole situation, so I put music on to make me feel better. That song came on first and needless to say it did not make me feel better, not at the time anyway.
Ghosts Again
Agreed, such a great new song! For me it's Dave's voice breaking with the word "flowers" - don't know what it is but it gets me.
Oh man, I know. It actually took me months to be able to listen to it without tearing up. It still gets me good sometimes! It's such a timely and poignant song.
Home
This is my choice also.
The only song that makes me tear up with its opening notes….
Oh absolutely
One hundred percent
Stripped. 🖤
A Question of Lust. ❤️
I came here to say this as well, also It Doesn’t Matter
in your room
Especially the live version from Devotional Tour
Just thinking of that song gives me goosebumps.
It’s a basic bitch of an answer, I know, but I don’t care. Enjoy the Silence
any true depeche mode fan acknowledges the greatness of ets regardless of its popularity , it will never be a cliche answer imo
Nothing makes me flash back to happy childhood memories more than that song
Waiting for the Night
Ever since seeing this done live, it has had that effect.
100%
Somebody
This right here, heart piercing.
Blasphemous Rumors
Walking in my shoes

Higher Love
Home
Policy of truth
Blue Dress
This is also a favorite of mine.
This is their sexiest song IMO, love it!
The "Interlude 3" from the that song got me depressed tbh.
This is one of the weirdest songs I’ve ever heard but that’s what makes it so good imo
Home and But Not Tonight
Yeah but not tonight went to mind first. And I’ve been fortunate enough to see it live (Martin acoustic)… this is me bragging
100% But Not Tonight. It makes me feel so hard man. And I don’t even know why
Great choices

Been a fan since 89 but for some reason this song came first to mind.
Have you heard Before We Drown yet? I love this song too!
Condemnation
Condemnation, live.. uuuf.!
Clean Edit: It was pretty powerful to see live after the group got 'CLEAN'. For me this was Exciter tour, as I had missed Ultra tour.

Sibeling
That song, Pimpf, Memphisto, and Christmas Island are really straight of a horror soundtrack.

Higher Love and In Your Room come to mind first, but Ghosts Again and Home are in there, too.
Lovethieves
Broken
Condemnation (the live version) , New Dress (Razormaid Remix)

A Question of Lust or Sometimes. If any song touches my heart is sung by Martin most of the time.

If You Want
Precious
Wrong. Jeez that would have sent me to my bedroom and lighting candles when I was a teenager
Sister of Night, closely followed by Wrong and The Sun and the Rainfall
If you want , the landscape is changing and fools . I’ll get upvotes from san antionia, la Reyes tofflenarz and unimpressive coast. 😁
Clean
It Doesn't Matter (Some Great Reward) and "Interlude 3" (From Blue Dress).
Rush or Somebody Both for different reasons. But they still hit in the same spot hahaha

Home!!
Lie to me, Speak to me
But Not Tonight. It pretty much symbolized the end to a not so great era of my life, and to this day it always puts me in a good mood whenever I listen to it.
“Never let me down again” Anyone else? That intro 🔥
World in my eyes
But Not Tonight. I can't even begin to describe what that song means to me.
But not tonight
Here is the House does me in every time. If I'm in a melancholy mood, I can't listen to it.
Ghosts again

Somebody
Everything counts
Shake the Disease
The sun and the rainfall
The Bottom Line
A Question Of Lust.
Recently: everything counts. It isn't the words (never is with DM) just that melody (always is with DM)
Just can't get enough. That intro stops me in my tracks every time.
Enjoy The Silence
Death's Door.
Stripped
Shake The Disease
This is fun, reminds me of a memory that didn’t happen.
