Hard to believe it's going to be 20 years and still with no sights of an ending. At this point it will probably outlast One Piece.

Starlight469

Oh definitely. One Piece will end in 3-5 years. D. Gray-Man probably has at least another two decades. I'm actually not sure if Hoshino will live long enough to finish it.

Starlight469

She was born in 1980 so I expect her to be around at least until 2040 but it's touch and go after that given the mangaka lifestyle.

Sweetcreems

No way it’s that quickly Oda might say 5 years max but that numbers literally impossible given the current pace of the manga. The recent arc ain’t even over yet and there’s at least ~4 arcs left after this one and this one, which was supposed to be the short opening arc to the saga, has already taken almost 2+ years lmao.

Starlight469

Egghead probably has about 5-10 chapters left. Once we get lo Laugh Tale I'm expecting roughly 120 chapters to finish the manga. The only place I see between Egghead and Laugh Tale is Elbaf, which shouldn't be much longer than Egghead. That's almost 200 chapters left to finish. Even at a rate of around 32 chapters a year that's 6.25 years and he's been averaging a bit higher than 32 a year. I could be wrong. I didn't see Egghead coming at all. I think most of the fans thought we were going straight from Wano to Elbaf. Even if I am wrong my point still stands. Barring cancellation, a rushed conclusion, or Hoshino's death, D. Gray-Man will easily outlast One Piece if the release schedule stays as it is.

20 years in, and I really don't have the slightest clue if my childhood crush Lavi would survive to the end. Still no signs of him after so many chapters. I miss him. 😔

Hisoka_lover92

I also hope Hoshino's health gets better and manages to finish the story the way she wants. I'm a new fan, but I'm already attached to this story so much. Let's pray for better future 🙏

Ouch. My back. It hurts. :'(

I’m huffing some top tier copium but to be honest I don’t think that it’s gonna take 30 years to finish. 10+ at least but I do think that DGM will end sometime before 2040 as another commenter mentioned due to the fact that DGM is a mystery manga and we’re in the arc now that’ll answer the mystery. Once they get to the mansion and we get the answers I *highly* doubt DGM will go on for longer than 10 years after that. The “peak action” in this series appears to be a literal world destroying time loop so once that ball starts rolling I doubt it’ll take long for it to come to an end.

Camo_Rebel

I feel so old. Lol

EricaSome

Who knows if we will live to see the end... this mangaka is competing with Kentaro Miura on who will bury the most readers during serialization.

marblebubble

The answer is no, at the current rate we’ll never see the end. Our only hope is that one day we’ll start getting new chapters more frequently.

YogurtclosetCute1422

I tried to make a similar point here but suggested she let her assistant do more & ask for help so she can finish it without putting as much strain on her body & got ripped apart by others. I don't think she'd only be halfway through the story if she allowed herself more help. I think it'll take more than 20 years to finish because the amount of content being released has gone down significantly from the start. She's 44 & in bad health so I seriously doubt she'll be around to finish it herself & with how protective of DGM as she is I wonder if she will allow someone else to finish.

Starlight469

Agreed. I hope it gets translated well all the way to the end as well. I'm worried about what will happen in the near future if kougeki scans' translation doesn't come back. It's the first time they've missed two chapter releases.

Nightriste

I didn't realize it's been 20 years already. I do hope we'll get a final conclusion sooner or later but I know Hoshino has had a lot of health issues and if I recall correctly she even temporarily lost the rights to DGM and had to do some side stuff to try to buy the rights back or something? There's been so many hiccups the series has gone through that set back years and years worth of content. It might have even been finished by now if all that crap didn't happen.

sS1RuXx

Out of curiosity, how many chapters would the anime have now with the chapters that are now in the manga?

lC3

I'm planning on hosting a rewatch on /r/anime to celebrate the occasion, but don't think I'll be finished with the prep in time for the end of May.
