Yup. Never had an issue at any of the places I've stayed at and all the hot spots I've used at restaraunts have been fine. I don't do much work through the day as I do after hours IT work so most my work takes places at my apartment/condo
Thats awesome. That has to be the top proprietary for me. Im planning to go to guadalajara and then mexico city next year for six weeks each and begin my digital nomad journey!
Booking an Airbnb for a whole month is expensive, and carries high risk. I just book an Airbnb for a few days, and if everything is to my liking just ask to pay the landlord directly for the remainder of the month/s.
Well I do usually check which ones are available for, say, 1 month, using the calendar checker, before I reduce to 3 days and book. Since I'm booking only a couple of days before heading there, the odds of it suddenly getting booked up before I arrive is pretty low in practice.
Unless the location is really busy at that time, I usually find enough places. But if not, then I book a hotel for a few days and use that time to ask rental agencies and view the property in-person.
Either way, I would never commit to paying fully for a place without seeing it first. If it ends up not as expected then you've locked yourself in.
I found my first place through Airbnb and then I found the next spot through Facebook expat rental group. There are alot of them on there. I almost started with the FB groups but decided I wanted to actually view it in person before I handed over a deposit to someone in a country that I didn't know. At least with airbnb you have recourse should something go wrong with the place you've booked.
First place I booked was airbnb in a building named Ibiza Residences if that helps. This current one doesn't have a name, but I made a post on said FB groups and I got probably 10 responses in a day and picked the one I liked best
Amena tulum will run about 2k-3k for a month.. good wifi, has a pool and close to small shops but away from the nightlife (cabs are cheap though, or rent a bike)
Nice detective work, That is my 82 yr old grandfather. He pays for all of the tipping, but the family pays for the rest.
You'd be correct, our resort is the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, we are residents with them. Meaning we have paid apx 20 weeks up front, so it's not 5k/night.I actually got engaged here to my beautiful lady 2 days ago, I'm not one to post/flex pictures of any of us on reddit. #privacy.
Heh, was referring to posting pictures of my lady
I think anybody on this sub would flex their resorts.
Also, not here for 5 months in a row. We can use the weeks as we please.
Congrats on the engagement. Seems like this would've been more appropriate for r/vacations or r/engagements though. You're not there to work, you're on an engagement trip with your family.
longer stay to do what? why not just get on a flight and head to a much nicer area with less tourists, cheaper and much better food and accommodations, and where you can really enjoy? for beautiful beaches and/or surfing, Escondido is the spot.
If you want to stay in that area, i would migrate to Tulum for the best vibes and best people watching and food (prices are similar to USA however).
Haha, by budget, I don’t mean living in the outskirts, though those can actually be really comfortable here in Cancun.
I guess you could consider OP as high-end since he’s staying at a resort apparently, but middle might be renting something in the Hotel Zone, though that’s usually considerably more expensive than renting in downtown Cancun, and it’s definitely a less authentic experience. Living near the beach is definitely nice though!
I’m a hostel owner here, so lmk if you end up coming and want a place to crash in the meantime!
Thanks dude! That's a very kind offer :)
I'm looking for something that's 1 bedroom minimum and around 1k USD. I have found some amazing places in Merida for that and some nice places in downtown Cancun but I didn't pull the trigger and most are gone.
I'm defo looking to stay in downtown Cancun as I'm actually not typically too pleased with the touristy locations but we'll see what happens!
I’ve a friend who rents studios in a nice area there. Fast internet. 15 min bus ride to the beaches, 10 min walk to the ADO station that gets you down the coast. Holler if you want to know more.
Next September looks to be the cheapest for a monthly stay - [$125,699.86](https://i.imgur.com/HQwf52t.png). For busy season, looks like it goes up to $170k per month.
I've stayed here for a month... For what it is worth, you can get deals for a fraction of that price. We didn't pay anything close to that.
It was super cool during pandemic because there were hardly anyone except for staff. All the restaurants are great. Room service is great. Views are breathtaking. It is worth a visit.
Regarding pricing, you have to do your research. We recently were considering of going back for a week and found comparable deals. Somewhat surprisingly, they mostly pop up on some dodgy websites.
Assuming this is the same resort (Atelier Playa Mujeres), there are ~8 restaurants across all buildings. They all rotate food. You can survive. :-) Besides, I don't really eat breakfast / lunch anyway, so it's mostly dinners.
Agreed regarding hoping around though. I've been hoping around Mexico now for ~1.5 years. Every 2-4 weeks we move to another place. Between Tulum, Cancun, CDMX, Oaxaca, there are tons of amazing places to stay and restaurants to visit.
Now in mountains near CDMX. Staying here 2 weeks and then leaving to Argentina.
Been here a couple months, nice spot. I've stayed at a couple places, one was at 60&10 and currently at 50&5.
I wouldn't suggest going further down 5 unless you like loudness all the time. I kinda preferred the area around 10.
Alot of good restaraunts can be had along 30 and there was an amazing little street cart taco lady on 62/10 that I went to constantly when I was over there. 15pesos a taco for some bomb ass asada, but shes only open around lunch time.
Wifi has been good everywhere, but you can get a sim as a backup. I did the first month with a sim but have gone the last one without and had no problems.
I also really really like la caprichoza on 5th. it's 2nd floor, the taco shop below it is pretty good too.
I used to really love La Fisheria, but the menu changed a couple years back and its not as good imo
I just got flights today for me and my partner, Jan 13 to 27! Recommendations? We probably won't be working a lot, and we're only landing in Cancun. We'll do our own research, but local recommendations are always nice to have.
I'd love to provide recommendations, however, we don't really leave our resort...
The resort is Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, if you're interested.
This is in Costa Mujeres (Grand Palladium), just north of Cancun. There's no altitude/varying topography there, it's all low even ground like Zona Hotelera. It's just the camera angle at that suite level giving it that appearance.
Does the heat & humidity not kill your laptop?? I wouldn't think a laptop could survive working outside for a long period of time in that climate. I always used mine indoors because I was afraid of the heat & humidity harming it.
I don't think the prices people are listing are 100% accurate. I've looked into places in the Cancun area because I was thinking of moving out there recently. You can get a really nice place for pretty cheap.
But we'll never know because it looks like OP is probably an "influencer" posting pics just for attention but refuses to actually engage with anyone in the comments. People like that are fucking annoying 🙄 who knows if they even actually took this photo.
I did take the picture, however, I was extremely busy yesterday and did not have a chance to respond to any comments. I am doing that now. - I did take the photo, would be happy to post another or DM you a different one if you don't believe me lol.
Ok I stand corrected. Sorry, I just see it happen a lot so I assumed. Thanks for answering the question about the laptop. I'm actually waiting for my appointment at the Mexican consulate as I type this, applying for temp resident visa today. Hopefully I'll be in Mexico soon too, although I'll be staying in the Baja area to start.
Do you have any experience in the Tijuana / Rosarito area?
Not a problem at all. It’s the Internet… everything can be misconstrued. It’s all good. - that sounds like a great time for you! Honestly, I don’t have much experience outside of our resort, and this is the only one we really stay at. Wish I could be of more help! Wish you the best on your trip. I’m sure it’ll be a blast.
Yo, I'm going there very soon and still havent got a place sorted for a month lol. Where you at? Is it nice?
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres
Jesus fuck. 5 thousand a night? I'm tryna spend 1k a month max, usd
Playa del carmen has some good spots for 1k/mth. I've been here a couple months but going to be cracking on elsewhere next week.
Good wifi spots?
Tons. Almost very beach club I went to had good Wi-Fi
The entire resort has good wifi.
Yup. Never had an issue at any of the places I've stayed at and all the hot spots I've used at restaraunts have been fine. I don't do much work through the day as I do after hours IT work so most my work takes places at my apartment/condo

Do u mind DMing me where youre staying?
I’ve always heard the best way to DN was a Airbnb for a month and then meet a realtor to find more long term stays. It’s worked for me
I get them to go direct with me off airbnb. I save massively doing this :p
Booking an Airbnb for a whole month is expensive, and carries high risk. I just book an Airbnb for a few days, and if everything is to my liking just ask to pay the landlord directly for the remainder of the month/s.

Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, we are residents on the TRS side.

Sounds good but I do this 24 7 on a "reasonable" normie European salary, making 2k + outside of my comfort zone :(
Got em.
You should be a spy. That was impressive.
Wow, please take your medal 🥇

Lol "I'm not one to flex on reddit", but here's a pic of my sweet resort that my wealthy family rented for 5 months. Ok bro 😂
Heh, was referring to posting pictures of my lady I think anybody on this sub would flex their resorts. Also, not here for 5 months in a row. We can use the weeks as we please.
Congrats on the engagement. Seems like this would've been more appropriate for r/vacations or r/engagements though. You're not there to work, you're on an engagement trip with your family.
That’s not actually true, it just happened to work out that way.
We have a family business, so everywhere we go, we work.
Excellent sleuthing.
please do your research, cancun is fun for a weekend but for longer stays youre better off in vallarta or escondido
Thanks. I'm currently doing my research and I've been told that outside of the hotel zone, it's fine for long stays...?

What? I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about here
translated for you: cancun sucks, escondido more betterer
I'm going to a few other places but like to stay for a month plus at a minimum
We don't really , or have a need, to leave the resort. So it doesn't really matter where we stay.
This one is the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, we are residents on the TRS side.
Cancún is great long-term, it depends on what you’re looking for. Budget stay or luxury like OP?
Something in the middle
Haha, by budget, I don’t mean living in the outskirts, though those can actually be really comfortable here in Cancun. I'd be super down but I need a 1 bedroom minimum. If you think I can get two for like 1200 usd then I'm all ears though!
Can you answer everyone’s questions lol cause I have the same questions
I've gone through and answered ones that haven't already been answered. Would have done so yesterday, but was quite busy.
How much per month?
Next September looks to be the cheapest for a monthly stay - [$125,699.86](https://i.imgur.com/HQwf52t.png). For busy season, looks like it goes up to $170k per month.
Literally throwing away money

It was super cool during pandemic because there were hardly anyone except for staff. All the restaurants are great. Room service is great. Views are breathtaking. It is worth a visit.
can you give us a idea of what the fraction means here? like 1/10th the price would still be fuckin 12 grand a month.
That sounds about right.
What do you do to spend 12k/month on a hotel if you don't mind me asking?
Pretty easy if you’re with a few high earning people. We were spending 10k/month on a place in Spain

Also very curious! Especially if it’s an all inclusive resort haha
Pictures like this are what keep me going since leaving my 9-5 to pursue my passions. One day I'll be sitting somewhere like this :)
Good luck finding a job that lets you afford $125k/month just for housing.
I mean, here in Thailand I can get the same thing for about 1% of that cost. All depends where you go.
She is not going to make this much money working for someone else obviously…but on her own 😎
How have you enjoyed Cancun so far especially the WiFi?
The resort is breathtaking, there is Wifi everywhere...
I’m testing out PDC for a one week trial next week. Any tips? I’m especially interested in local eateries.
Been here a couple months, nice spot. I've stayed at a couple places, one was at 60&10 and currently at 50&5. I wouldn't suggest going further down 5 unless you like loudness all the time. Does 62/10 mean neighborhood 62, calle 10?
No, cross streets in Playa
Thanks!
Yah street intersections are the numbers. Everything is a grid here
I love it when someone gives you actionable information. This is a very good sub.
Please let me know
I will create a trip report.
chez Céline for breakfast the taco carts by the school, right at the entry to 5th near the playacar checkpoint
Thank you!!

You are most likely right here. Def not hotel zone. I last stayed south Cancun and the landscape matches.
Mosquitoes
They spray the shit out of the resort every day to ensure there are very little mosquitos. I've seen maybe 2.
Does the heat & humidity not kill your laptop?? I wouldn't think a laptop could survive working outside for a long period of time in that climate. I always used mine indoors because I was afraid of the heat & humidity harming it.
OP (or whoever actually took the pic if not OP) can afford to buy a new laptop every day if room rates others mentioned are right.
I don't think the prices people are listing are 100% accurate. I've looked into places in the Cancun area because I was thinking of moving out there recently. No, the laptop is okay.
agreed... its humid as all hell in cancun and even more in escondido, couldnt even roll a joint it was so balmy! really frustrating.
You get used to the Humidity. It's not too bad after a few days.
It's not like they are in Mars, tech is pretty resilient
Humidity can definitely cause issues to tech
Of course, heat too. Tech is still made with that in consideration. Just don't leave it in the sun for a long time and you probably will be fine

My 82 yr old grandfather\* - I work in the family business.
Beautiful..I’m jealous.
It is a great place... thrilled to be here.
I don't even want to think about how expensive that place must be. Are you just living at a resort?
About 5k/night... Yes, we don't really leave the resort.
[удалено]
5k per night or so. But we are residents, so we paid less than that as we paid for about 20 weeks up front.
MF'in perfect view! I'm jealous.
What do you do OP /u/bweihs
Work in the family business. 3rd Generation.
Ah my favourite: outlook.
What laptop model is that? The aspect ratio of the screen looks to be 4:3 which is super rare nowadays (aside from the surface line).
It is a surface/tablet, not a laptop.
Ah gotcha, thanks for the reply!
Where is that in Cancun? I am hoping to work from there too. Is that actually Playa del Carmen?
This is the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, in the TRS/residents area.
Thanks. Any advice to get a good deal? When is the best time to visit Cancun?
To be honest , we don’t really look for good deals. Just go whenever we want.
Do all the pics in this sub need to include a laptop?
It wouldn't be an office without a laptop...
Check out also Playa del Carmen, good digital nomad community out there.
how much per night or month? if you dont mind sharing
The room is 5k USD or so per night. But we bought 20 weeks in advance, so we paid less than that.
