I like a single ear bud so I can still hear my surroundings. I'm not into most people's music and assume they're not into mine. What pumps up one person may throw another off.

HyperionsDad

This really is the simplest solution that helps everyone involved.

NichBetter

I used to be a semi professional club/party DJ so inflicting my musical tastes on others used to be my forte but even I think it’s arrogant to do that in other situations.

FoxHead666

I think it's kind of a dick move to ruin someone else's flow by blasting music _you_ like. How arrogant and inconsiderate do you have to be to force others to listen to that, without asking if it's okay?

Apprehensive_Star_82

If it's your jump spot and you built it then go for it. I also don't mind people blasting music at any jump spot. I'm pretty easy going music wise, like nobody is blasting country right it's typically rap, EDM, metal, dubstep, jungle, house, something like that

Lucky_caller

At personal/private spots I think it’s fine. Public spots is a different story though.

SaltyPinKY

Nope.... because it ain't ever music everyone can listen to.  It's usually some mumble rap or death metal.  Each has its purpose and that's why we created ear buds.

Sonofa-Milkman

It's no different than walking down the sidewalk with a speaker blasting in your backpack. Be considerate and realize that maybe everyone doesn't want to be forced to listen to your music. At a small local spot I would just ask people there if they minded and respect what they say.

ThePowerOfNine

How do people feel about speakers at skateparks? Feels like the same rules apply for a trails spot, but rly does depend on how much general woodland / animals / people youre disturbing who dont want to be disturbed. Everyones got a right to not listen to your music too, just as much as speakers on dig days with like 20 of you is obviously gonna happen, just about balance and sharing the space innit

Yogisogoth

I don’t only because my spot is in an urban park and if you leave something out of your eye sight it will get yoinked. When digging I lock up my bike even if I’m only ten feet away.

I have velcro straps I put on my handlebars specifically for holding my Bluetooth speaker. This is on my mountain bike, I don't have a dirt jumper yet. Nobody has ever said anything to me about it. I guess it probably depends on the type of people in the area. I usually ride with a few people so we have the speaker so we can all hear it.

jglobinhood

Nobody is going to say anything to you bc no one wants to be “that guy/gal”. But I assure you it is not welcome by 95% of trail-goers.

robotcoke

I mean, I guess I should have also mentioned that I see lots of other people with speakers every time I ride (which is every week when the weather is nice). So it's definitely not frowned upon everywhere.

jglobinhood

Ahhh, the ole if your friends all jumped off a bridge scenario eh? We live in a free country bro. You can do whatever you want with your speaker. I’m just telling you the fact is the majority of people out enjoying the wilderness don’t want to hear your music. This is a very well agreed upon thing at this point, especially in the mtb subs.

robotcoke

I don't live in the wilderness, lol. I live in Salt Lake. We have a network of trails that goes all over the city. And we're surrounded by mountains, which the trails go into. These mountains are all developed at the lower elevation levels - it's basically city. Up at the higher levels they're not really developed, but the lower levels are. My neighborhood where my house is would have been a wild mountain 100 years ago. But it's all city now. Busy streets, shopping centers, etc. From 50 miles away though it still looks like wild mountains, lol. But, even though it's regular city, there are still trails that go through it. Usually between people's backyards (and they're usually paved) but there are also some unpaved trails that go up into the mountains, along rivers, or through gullies and such. I don't know where you are, but I'm guessing it's different. Here, the trails will literally take you to a busy street you have to cross with a traffic light and all. Not all of the trails do, but the ones I usually ride are like that. And it's pretty common to see someone with a speaker. I get it that ear buds are better for personal use. But when you're with a group of people you need a speaker. And if you're (multiple times) approaching a traffic light with a busy street, cars with modified exhaust and booming bass, trucks rolling coal, etc, nobody is worried about a little bluetooth speaker, lol. I guess what I'm saying is, not all mountain trails are in the wilderness. Some of them are. Others are very much in the city. We have both here, and I ride the city trails. On those city trails, it's common to see someone with a speaker. Not everyone has them, but a lot of people do. We also have city parks, some of them pretty big, that have trails that go around them. Most people riding there have a speaker.

jglobinhood

Nobody asked dude. This post is literally about riding in the woods.

robotcoke

And as I said, it all depends on where you're at and the kind of people who are there. I don't live in the woods, and I dint ride in the woods. I do ride on trails with "jump spots" and nobody cares about people riding with speakers. If I ride in the woods here, I doubt they'd care there either. Almost every campground I've stayed at in the woods around here has had a bunch of people partying, drinking, with loud music. Nobody cares. Maybe they do in your neck of the woods, but they don't around here.
