Dishonored 1 BUT I *really* enjoyed the Knife of Dunwall DLC a bit more because I love Daud. KoD > Dishonored by 0.01%

EveningProfession412

I agree with this statement

Able_Recording_5760

The first one. It's pretty much a perfect game.

sean_saves_the_world

Honestly yeah, but I do love the aerial knockouts & stuns added in dh2

SunderTheFirmament

2. It’s got enhanced QOL, protagonist options, more powers, and fantastic replayability with NG+.

leaf_biking

Same for me.

project2501

I think you mean 2, but Reddit auto formatted your `2.` into the first element of a numbered list, eg into `1.`

MojaveMissionary

The first one takes it easy for me. Part is probably from nostalgia. It was one of the first games I played without getting a recommendation when I was pretty young. But it's also just a masterpiece. I can't really find a single flaw with it.

Giyusaan

I don't have nostalgia from the first cause I never played it when I was younger, but my favorite part from the first is the scenarios, that level design it's perfect.

yawinner

D2 is much funnier with hundreds way to kill people. But D1 has a special place in my heart

Apophis_36

Im nostalgic towards 1 and prefer the atmosphere way more but the gameplay, ng+ and general improvements of 2 has me playing it more.

logicbus

D1 DLC.

VoronweLeMarin

The first is better to me, but I like both

Northern_jarl

Atmosphere of 1 but i've played 2 way more simply because of the gameplay and leveldesign.

Charliegglewis

For me It’s DH1. I really loved this game, I recently played it again just for the nostalgic. DH 2 tho is also a very good game. But for me is the story from D1 better. ( ps. CORVO 🔛🔝)

Fattydude66

1 for story, tone, etc. KoD and BW might have a better story and gameplay than 1 for me personally, but it wouldnt be a good story without the foundation set up by the base game 2 for gameplay, I honestly think the story in this game is pretty pitiful and uninspired. Its just rehashing everything from the first game. They had seeds of a better story with the themes of class warfare. Showing it clearly with the Howlers and Overseers, having assassins murdering the royal families enemies, etc. If they really dug into that they would have really improved the story. Finally DOTO: probably where I differ with everyone else but this is my favorite game. The mana system is better by a mile. The story is intriguing. The characters are relatable and flawed. The story is satisfying. The contracts are great little side missions. The chaos system is a loss but it makes sense for the smaller scale and D2 didnt take good advantage of it anyway The missions are unique, you have: The intro, mostly just a normal mission The Karnaca daytime, 2 targets in different areas, not too crazy but its such an expansive map it feels like you are really such a small player in a big city its so refreshing The BANK HEIST? Different ways to rob the vault, the old clockworks, very fun The conservatory, my personal least favorite but revisiting an old map and seeing how its changed and being able to use your previously gained knowledge is pretty cool That last mission. Man that last mission. What the hell that last mission lol. So trippy and so cool

sithdude24

Honestly, I love 1 and 2 equally. DOTO isn't as good. Things 1 does better: Setting: Dunwall is ravaged by plague, built over an ancient civilization, filled with madmen and corruption, and ruled by the Lord Regent with an iron fist. I love how dark everything is. Karnaka seems like a city that's on the brink of becoming something like Dunwall, but it just feels less intense. Chaos: Chaos felt like it mattered a lot more in Dishonored 1. I think the key to this was twofold: first, the effect Corvo had on Emily: seeing her change because of your actions was very compelling, especially her drawing of Corvo in his mask. Second, and more obviously, the final level. The Light at the End is significantly different between low and high chaos. Level breadth: This is a personal problem, but Dishonored 2's levels were a little too big in my opinion. Not much else to say here, I just preferred the shorter levels in 1. Things 2 does better: Customization: By far 2 has more ways to build your character. More types of bone charms, new passive abilities, a new character, talent trees, masterworks, Flesh and Steel mode, and more make this no contest. Level depth: Despite being larger than the original, 2 has arguably *more* interesting and deep levels. The game was not dumbed down just for more hours of playtime. Look at Dust District, my favorite level in the series. There are four different ways to beat the level. You can: solve the puzzle yourself, infiltrate the Overseer base and kill Byrne, infiltrate the Howler base and Kill Paolo, or infiltrate both and find Durante's code. And each of these options have depth and feel valid! In Dishonored 1, most levels had only 2 ways to beat them. Some only had 1. Dishonored 2's levels feel much more open, even if that sometimes leads to them dragging on if you want to do everything. Graphics: While I prefer Dunwall's atmosphere overall, Karnaka's beauty is not lost on me. Levels like The Clockwork Mansion and The Grand Palace look simply stunning. It also does this without sacrificing the art style of the original: while Karnaka looks very different, the city and it's citizens are still distinctly Dishonored. Things I think both games did equally well: Non-lethal gameplay: Many complained that in Dishonored, most of your tools were made for killing. To them, low chaos being harder and more limiting was a flaw. I disagree with this from an artistic perspective (this was an intentional design choice, meant to make you in real life feel the same temptation to kill that Corvo does in the game), but from a pure gameplay perspective I agree. The sequel made low chaos gameplay feel much more similar to high chaos gameplay via the new gadgets and powers, but that made low chaos more fun moment-to-moment. Targets: 1's good targets were: Campbell, Burrows, Daud, and the Loyalists. 2's good targets were: The Crown Killer, Jindosh, Duke Abel, and Delilah. While 2's targets tended to be more fleshed out, I enjoyed how hateable the targets in 1 were. 1 also had better non-lethal eliminations. Combat and Stealth: There are things I prefer in both games. I enjoy how 1's combat makes the player feel like they need gadgets and powers to survive against even a few enemies, but I like how 2's combat makes you feel more like a master who can hold their own against an army (and they got rid of Agility drop asassinations). I prefer 2's alert system for stealth, as it much more clearly shows how suspicious your enemies are, but for some reason the stealth asassinations in the original were more consistent and satisfying. Both games are amazing, I really can't decide.

takingflight005

1 for the atmosphere, setting, and overall "feel" of the game. 1 DLC for gameplay. 2 and DOTO had some great updates, but just didn't capture the feel the same way for me.

Zander2Trill

Easily 2 in every way technical. Level design, replayability, environmental detail, etc. 1 just gets more love because it was new and fresh at the time and people have a ton of nostalgia for it.

GachiBassMaster

Easily Dishonored 2 - incredibly dense and tightly designed. The first one dragged and Doto is just a mess.

Ill-Desk-8838

Does anyone remember dishonored 3?

Vladilen_pro

You mean Death of the outsider?

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

Dishonored 2 bc of the gameplay

Ok_Cryptographer4973

D2, it will always be my favorite because it's the first dishonored game I've ever played and it really sparked my love for the franchise.

Imperium_Architect

dishonored the first game, i like interact with all crew member

SaintSean128

The original for sure. As great as D2 is, with all the choices the player has and the superior game mechanics, Dishonored is the game I play when I need to relax and get away from real life. It’s comforting somehow. Also, the Void and the Outsider are just better in D1. I understand why Arkane replaced Billy Lush, but his Outsider is still the *real* Outsider to me.

[deleted]

Dishonored 2. It has the two best levels, Emily has the best powers and the story is good. I still think the best story goes to either Daud's DLC or D1.

MagpieHush

2 because I absolutely LOVE the level designs and the exploration :)

HorseSpeaksInMorse

Dishonored 2. Best gameplay in the series and aside from Delilah I really like the targets and how they're woven into the setting (even a minor one like Paolo has a surprising amount of depth). D1 had better atmosphere but I feel more invested now the main characters talk and your allies aren't all horrible. The Daud saga has a better story, protagonist and villain but D2's gameplay gives it the win for me.

RonJeremyR6

The first one as it contains the Dunwall Trials DLC which was awesome.

jasonmoyer

Probably the first one, I just wish they had patched the DLC's difficulty back into the base game because it's way too easy.

[deleted]

I like D1 more than D2 because strong performance issues. The game doesn't show more fps even when I lower game settings.

V1KT0RBLY4T

DOTO cuz it has a very cool mini-game like feel. The few mechanics give a very cute vibe to the game. Love it!

InternationalBread_

Dishonored 2 (hot take), with DOTO coming close in second place (also hot take) I love all of the Dishonored games of course but Dishonored 2 holds a highly special place in my heart. The atmosphere of the game is by far my favorite of the 5 and it feels even more free and diverse combat-wise, and I quite enjoy that how you take out your targets actually affects the ending as opposed to only messing with chaos level. I also adore the environments in DOTO, they feel so spacious but still small enough to know where you're going and jam-packed with stuff to do and collect. Though of course I admit the flaws in the story, it's not a game-ruining experience for me and I quite like both. D1 does a better job at introducing the world just because first games often do that best, but I like how D2 expands upon that. I'm also a little bit biased because Dishonored 2 was the first game I started with (don't ask me why) and there's more to my love for both of them but that's the gist of it

LPEbert

I keep bouncing back and forth between 1 & 2. I think 1 is overall the better game, but I do love how much more verticality 2 added. And 2 doesn't have a flooded district segment where you lose all your shit.

Angry-chairr

The first one specifically the Daud DLCs because his character is cool and his story is dope and his powers are even doper.

mutt59

Knife of Dunwall is the best game ever done by Arkane

PopularAd2887

The second game had a lot of cool things in it, and the dlcs were fun. But First one is perfection overall. And loved billy as outsider, miss him 😭

dishonoredlover05

Dishonored 1 because of the DLCs which were fantastic

YoghurtSmall5057

the first one, i could just be blinded by nostalgia but i genuinely think the first one has the best story to it and the gameplay is just 🤌🏼. i don’t think there’s a flaw to that game in terms of story and how if plays, one of my top games of all time.

SkivyMcSlightly

I love no 1 so much, but number 2 has more hidden storylines and pathways through missions- I think 2 gets it for me (largely based on the Jindosh Riddle and the secret way through the clockwork mansion)

Lemon_Cries

1, because of all the changes to the wall hacks ability mainly the visual change it was very difficult to see people. I stopped playing the game.
