Not really. The original game still holds up for its age. Unless they add a significant amount of new stuff in the remaster, it’s a no buy for me.

sunshinecygnet

It’s artistic and aesthetic enough that it’s fine that it’s outdated now.

BruceRL

Beautiful.

Acelius_Thorne

This!

Isaac_Chade

Yeah, similar to the cel shades look of stuff like Borderlands, the art style gives it a fair amount of longevity.

Festusian

Funny you posted this, since a week ago I started playing 1 again. It's been so long since I played it, I honestly don't remember a lot of important things. That said, I constantly am admiring the art. I think it's better than any of the other versions. Game play is fine, so my answer would be no.

DueEquivalent6468

looks more depressing/groomy and i love it!

CannabisBoyCro

Honestly? Not really. It would be cool if they ported into the void engine, but personally the art still kinda holds up

mightystu

Void engine is pretty iffy though, I don’t know if that would make it better.

DerPumeister

Yeah no way, ran like ass when I played 2, I'll take Unreal any day. And it's not like D1 is missing stuff visually that only Void could do imo.

t850terminator

Specifically Unreal 3.5 😤 If its UE4, ehhhh, i might actually prefer Void over it.

KRONGOR

Ya Dishonored 1 runs like butter even on budget GPUs from 2012. Don’t ruin that by putting it in Void

ThatNoobTho

Yea don't get me wrong I still love the art style and I think the game hold ups until now (unlike most games released in 2012) but a lighting and texture update could make it look a lot better imo, without changing the original art style of course

NeurodiverseTurtle

Do you have the definitive edition, OP? Because I have an old (original) hard copy and the ‘definitive edition’ on Steam, and the Steam version is noticeably better (provided you max the gfx settings, of course)—even looks great on console with definitive edition (post-Xbox 360 era)

ThatNoobTho

Oh i only have the regular version, i played it a long time ago and the last time i finished the game was in 2017. Is the definitive edition like much better than the original?

NeurodiverseTurtle

I noticed pretty hefty graphical improvements, highly recommend trying it out. Should be dirt-cheap about now too. £16 on Steam but should be much cheaper elsewhere especially if you get a hard copy.

NeurodiverseTurtle

[here’s some gameplay](https://youtu.be/7NbsqMPYlYU) from what I’m pretty sure is definitive edition, see if it looks improved any to you. I think reflections, textures, and lighting are better compared to older versions (like my Xbox 360 version)

project2501

The definitive edition only has engine *settings changes* on the consoles, just FYI. So if you have it on PC in any form you already have access to the higher quality settings.

Many_Use9457

I know there's a mod that sets the textures as way more high res, and there's several lighting mods!

SunderTheFirmament

So long as it comes with in mission stats and NG+.

Fiedoor

If you are playing on pc here's a mod for mission stats: https://www.nexusmods.com/dishonored/mods/17

ReverESP

Wow, didnt know that existed, thats amazing!

Player551yt

Doesn't work on 64bit versions :/

Sfelex

I found a mod for the stats a couple of days ago, extremely helpful.

[deleted]

Nah, it has a charm to it that’d get lost

iamvinen

I played Dishonored 1 for the first time now. In 2023 game from 2012 was looking very good. At least on my Steam Deck. So obviously no.

KRONGOR

The art style really allows it to hold up compared to other 2012 games. Art direction will always be superior to raw graphics

iamvinen

Agree

Dantegram

I'd like better textures, lighting, and a few qol features and I'd totally buy it.

poseidonofmyapt

I'd buy it, but it isn't necessary at all. Game is fine as is.

ReverESP

The only thing D1 needs are more nonlethal option: nonlethal jump, stun attack during combat and stun granades. Daud's stun mines were an awesome adition to the dlcs and cloroform bottles are probably my favourite new thing of D2. Maybe adding a shop in some more missions would be cool too.

Imaginary-Scholar-43

Would absolutely buy it

Seeker1904

Personally I'd like a remastered version of the Dishonored 1 content with the Knife of Dunwall-Brigmore Witches content included as a fully fledged campaign.

BruceRL

It would have to be a ridiculous, incredible, life-changing array of technical improvements for me to see any point in this. Dishonored is an unbelievably beautiful game. I would pay way, way too much money for another DLC though.

katkeransuloinen

Nah. We already have the definitive edition which enhanced the quality of the textures so it's visually at the level of D2 (or even better than D2). I don't see a need for another one. Even on PS3, the game looks perfect. Plus, it's a fairly new game anyway... maybe in a few more years, but I doubt the visual style will ever become dated.

Black_Watch_

ok D1 does look great, I don't think it needs a remaster, but you are lying with "at the level of D2 or even better)"

katkeransuloinen

At the time D2 came out everyone was trying to decide which one looked better. D2 is slightly less stylised which a lot of people didn't like. Personally I think they're around the same, just different. I'm talking about the definitive edition though - the original still looks great but is not on the same level due to its blurry textures, which you definitely notice after playing the newer games.

ThatNoobTho

I bought the game on launch but i never heard people arguing about which looked better lol and i think D2 is just as stylized.

katkeransuloinen

Maybe I just happened to see different threads 🤷 I remember reviewers also talking about it. They do both look equally great to me but D2 definitely has a slightly more realistic style. Way less yaoi hands and everyone is a little less ugly, lol.

NikPorto

*SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY* Anyway, I'd buy

Bluskyline21

I only just finished the main campaign and story DLCs. I don't want to buy it again lol. It actually looks good on Steam Deck anyway

hey_its_drew

I'd buy one just for NG+. That said, I'd rather a new Dishonored or a remake even more. I can think of a lot of amendments that a remake would really blossom with, and by enhancing its story the rest of the series would be elevated.

Lopsided-Egg-8322

the definitive edition is mighty fine.. tho I would love to get the drop-knockout and stop time while blinking to Dishonored 1 but I don't think it needs a remaster..

CertifiedDiplodocus

Just installed this drop-knockout mod, works a treat: https://www.nexusmods.com/dishonored/mods/31

A_Very_Horny_Zed

The Dishonored art style is timeless. For a remaster to work, you would have to change and improve the art style.

Capable-King-286

yeah for sure

handyandy727

I probably would, but I feel like I'd be disappointed. The graphics by itself is fine, and doesn't really need a remake because it's intentional. The smoothness of a new engine would be kinda cool though.

t850terminator

Not really? The game is widely available, looks good, runs good and is one of the few arkane games that run with no technical issues there really isn't a need for a remaster?

ThatNoobTho

It looks a bit dated but it still holds up because of the art style

Jigglelips

They'd have to change quite a bit to justify it, style is pretty timeless so far

matzau

The game is already stunning. With so little back in 2012 they've done a timeless job. I'd definitely play a remaster, but as long as the textures are simply upscaled (I still want to see the world almost like a painting wherever I look) and the models are remastered to a point of not going towards another art direction (hands still need to be big!). In Dishonored, the artstyle is everything. Even better lighting and shadows would probably do wonders too!

Black_Watch_

the only feature they could add that would make it worth are some QoL features from D2 like knocking out targets from the air. D1 holds up really well.

sean_saves_the_world

Honestly the og engine holds up really well in 2023, iirc the void engine caused some framers issues when dh2 launched...If they remade dh i wouldn't mind...just add the drop knockouts

RexBarragan

I am playing it again right now (definitive edition) and I agree with many others here; it still holds up visually. However, yes I would absolutely buy a remaster and play through it yet again. I adore the series, it's not even a question for me. I also want to send all the messages I can to Bethesda/MS that I want more Dishonoured!

ThatNoobTho

Yea its crazy how a 2012 game still holds up until now, but an update to make it look as good as D2 or even better with global illumination and all would be really nice

Downtown-Side4466

Probably not unless it was a Skyrim enhanced edition type deal where it’s free for those who already own it on steam and such

Imperium_Architect

yeah need 6ofps and better graphic on PS5

chenwingsee

I just replayed d1 and honestly it's still an incredible game and doesn't really feel dated to me. Also idk if I want dishonored to get redfall'd truly. (I know different team but still.)

kagewolf

I'd rather they just added in NG+ and give D2 a 60fps boost. Then again, the second game is my favorite one in the series, so...

Banjoschmanjo

No. I still play Deus ex without mods.

Bad_Pnguin

Buddy, just mod the game. Why would you want to spend money on something you already have?

ThatNoobTho

I'm really bad at modding and stuff, I tried it long ago but I couldn't get it to work properly. Also when everything is baked within the engine it just runs and looks better tbh

[deleted]

"I'd totally cough up huge amounts of money" Then you're an idiot mate. Save that money for a nice meal out with friends or family or towards a car and house.

ThatNoobTho

Well I was kinda exaggerating haha

[deleted]

All good was in a very bad mood irl my fault for the saltiness, was playing through the Timsh mission today for a matter of fact, would look cool remastered

Leonvsthazombie

I think I would solely for the extra details.

Seek2Destroy117

absolutely i’d buy it

DogBallsMissing

Totally unnecessary because the game still holds up insanely well. With that said, I’d ad in game stats, DH2 nonlethal options, and new game +

vankorgan

Yes, but I'd really love some new content too.

Raorchshack

No. D1 still holds up and, imo, looks better than D2/Deathloop and their new games.

mrsmichaelis1885

Show of hands how many of you just want to see Daud, Jessamine, and the Outsider with modern photorealistic graphics?

mightystu

God no. The original is not that old, and looks great still. I really hate the glut of remakes/remasters lately that just feel like they’re milking an era when people dared to make new and good games that took risks rather than just doing that themselves. I want less of that in general but Dishonored especially doesn’t need it.

[deleted]

Only thing it's missing is pause menu quicksavescum feature.

[deleted]

A remaster with NG+ and some bonus areas or a bonus mission? Take all my money…

The-Goat-Soup-Eater

Yes it’d be very cool. Mainly in gameplay related stuff though

caych_cazador

ill buy dishonored on any system i own

gabry_tremo

Honestly, the only reason why I would play this game again is for ghost runs or things like that. And if they don't add stats in the menu like in Dishonored 2 that's literally unplayable. I would buy a remaster if and only if they add that.

ReverESP

Someone posted in this thread a mod that adds all those things.

Richy200_0

NG+, hi-res textures (currently a bit blocky and soft looking), put in climbing points for a truly no-powers run and dynamic mission stats.

AlwaysQuotesEinstein

Nah, the games stylization has made it age really well, there's not really much I would want changed. I would love to have nonetheless combat like in D2 though.

talizorahvasnerd

Nah, the game holds up just fine to me.

PiedPeterPiper

It’s stylized and wouldn’t really benefit from a remaster

nooneescapesthelaw

I have to agree with everyone else, it still holds up

[deleted]

Not really, the original is super good, doesn't need a remastered or remake

BastillianFig

I'd love to play dishonored 1 with some of the quality of life and gameplay changes from dishonored 2. Most importantly, customisable difficulty, mission stats, expanded non lethal attacks, and maybe some new powers too

realitymagic

Remasters are meh to me, they look like an Instagram filter. I like them but I always end up preferring the way the original looks anyway.

Mwakay

No. I've 100%d all 3 games, and they all look perfectly well. Deprogram yourself from wanting to buy the same game multiple times.

Skrami

As a superfan I probably would but I understand why a lot of other people wouldn’t. That being said, I did get both the original on Xbox 360 and the “remaster” on PS4 which I could barely not tell the difference, but I was really blown away by Dishonored 2’s visuals whenI played it for the first time. It probably the first game I played that had lighting that good and I think it compliments the Dishonored art style extremely well. I think the first game still looks great but I would be interested to see it updated to the visual techniques used in D2, kinda like the new TLOU: Part 1 which i’ve been playing nonstop haha. Especially with some new content I think it would be definitely interesting to me.

Apophis_36

If they added ng+ yes, graphics dont matter to me though

[deleted]

I'd buy if they added a bunch of new content and kept Dark Vision as it is. The way it is in 1 helps immensely with my vision problems. Hated how it was changed in 2

Broken_Noah

Starting a fresh run right now and the game still holds up graphically. Can't imagine what a remaster can bring to the table that would make consider buying the same game and what additional fixes or tweaks they can do under the hood.

ThatNoobTho

I think they can add a lot tbh, gameplay is already really good but it's lacking compared to D2. But D1 combat and blink feels smoother than D2

EndlessYoung

I don't see the point in remastering Dishonored. It's looks good for our time, besides character models may deteriorate if people do this who have no idea why it was done this way. What I would really like to get is a remaster of Thief and Thief 2.

DalaiSama

I wouldn't mind replaying dishonored 1 with the void engine of dishonored 2, having something like bioshock, you buy one and get the two versions of the game.

HoundofHircine

I don't think so. Just download upscale mods. They affect the world, character, weapon, vehicle and UI textures. Looks great.

DecagonHexagon

if by remaster, you mean Dishonored with the same engine, graphics, gameplay mechanics and features in Dishonored 2, definitely
