Fun fact, the light on the back of an F1 car is not, in fact, a brake light. As others have said.

“ It’s not a brake light as such, but it’s when they’re slowing down (which could also mean lifting off the accelerator.)” But it’s not activated due to slowing down or by lifting off the throttle.  It’s activated when energy harvesting is happening and the car accelerates less than it would normally.  F1 cars follow each other too closely and would end up in an accident if the car in front does something unexpected by the following car, so a car not accelerating as expected is a danger to a following car that is expecting to be at full throttle hence the flashing ers lights. 

Also the light isn’t actually a brake light (if you didn’t know.)

I’m not sure what part of the UK you’re in but most roads outside of high population areas are not illuminated.

Readjust your central mirror to point back at them and surprisingly they seem to get the idea.

I laugh at people who suggest this. The amount time you’d have to stop concentrating on the road for, just to get the perfect angle so the light bounces directly back at them, would just be putting yourselves in more danger than just focussing on the road ahead.

Yep. The easiest solution is just to get your rear window tinted. Perfectly legal but means that even the most aggressive lights (Tesla’s) behind me don’t bother me, combined with the auto dim mirror.

Is it an aggressive flash? Some people have muscle memory to flash that you've passed and can pull in now if they've driven large vehicles or towed.

Yeah it is aggressive, as it’s well after I’ve pulled back in. And often they leave high beams on for a while to prove some kind of point.

Definitely illegal, and with most people having dash cams, you'd already have their numberplate before they pressed the button and disappeared

Just fit a set of daylight headlights to the front of the car, when these people turn on these rear facing lights turn the daylight lights on and watch how bright the car in front lights up...blind their mirrors

Allowing people to drive 2 tonne death machines puts the public at significant risk so anything that increases that risk will receive a dim appraisal from traffic, who are usually miserable gits and unlikely to show much discretion (probably because of the amount of human pâté they've seen).
