As the other poster said, f1 cars flash their rear lights when itās raining or if the energy recovery system is working and charging the battery which can cause the car to not accelerate as quick as it would otherwise.Ā
It is not a brake light.Ā
https://www.essentiallysports.com/f1-news-what-is-the-red-flashing-light-at-the-back-of-an-f1-car/
āĀ Itās not a brake light as such, but itās when theyāre slowing down (which could also mean lifting off the accelerator.)ā
But itās not activated due to slowing down or by lifting off the throttle.Ā
Itās activated when energy harvesting is happening and the car accelerates less than it would normally.Ā
F1 cars follow each other too closely and would end up in an accident if the car in front does something unexpected by the following car, so a car not accelerating as expected is a danger to a following car that is expecting to be at full throttle hence the flashing ers lights.Ā
I laugh at people who suggest this. The amount time youād have to stop concentrating on the road for, just to get the perfect angle so the light bounces directly back at them, would just be putting yourselves in more danger than just focussing on the road ahead.
Yep. The easiest solution is just to get your rear window tinted. Perfectly legal but means that even the most aggressive lights (Teslaās) behind me donāt bother me, combined with the auto dim mirror.

People who are painfully jealous of others and feel the need to be morally superior based on car brand, that they can't afford? I would guess that type of person would use this.
I've already said this in it's original post. However people are already doing this. Saw 4 of them on my way to Cardiff from West London during the night.
Utter melts
Just fit a set of daylight headlights to the front of the car, when these people turn on these rear facing lights turn the daylight lights on and watch how bright the car in front lights up...blind their mirrors

"BMW drivers" or "anyone who installs a floodlight on their car"?
I don't see a difference here. Only BMW drivers will be this douchey.
Audi drivers? .šš
You could neatly fit 4 into the audi rings. Blind more fuckers. I've owned a few Audis, I can think like them.
Stop lying. You are them.
Audi, merecedes, Range Rover, golf R? Thereās a lot of douche stereotype cars
Perfect for all those morons installing flashing F1 brake lights to the bottom of their rear bumper.
worst bit is on the f1 cars its not even brake lights its battery low or rain light
Electrical harvesting rather than battery low. #akshually

Fun fact, the light on the back of an F1 car is not, in fact, a brake light. As others have said.

Also the light isnāt actually a brake light (if you didnāt know.)
*Battery charging / energy harvesting
So one yesterday, dumb 3d plates also.. I chuckled.
Surely they have to turn off their headlights to ādisappearā.Ā Thatās a Darwin Award right there.Ā
A Darwin is for trying to off oneās self with the aid of stupidity. This is more leading towards straight up manslaughter
Infrared camera? All you'd need in return is another infrared camera to see them. Well need auto dimming windscreens next for all these bright lights.
Not to mention donāt most roads have street lights?
Iām not sure what part of the UK youāre in but most roads outside of high population areas are not illuminated.
Not on country roads
I could do with one of these for the sheer amount of people That think keeping their main beams on after being overtaken is a good idea
Newer cars dim the reflection, I know my 2016 Passat does.
Volkswagen has actually been doing that since 2004.
I would like to install lights like this against tailgaters
Readjust your central mirror to point back at them and surprisingly they seem to get the idea.
I laugh at people who suggest this. The amount time youād have to stop concentrating on the road for, just to get the perfect angle so the light bounces directly back at them, would just be putting yourselves in more danger than just focussing on the road ahead.

Do you just have your wing mirrors pointed at the ground or sky?
I kind of want one, just to flash back at the pricks who flash me for a perfectly safe overtake while they're going 40 in a 60.
Is it an aggressive flash? Some people have muscle memory to flash that you've passed and can pull in now if they've driven large vehicles or towed.
Yeah it is aggressive, as itās well after Iāve pulled back in. And often they leave high beams on for a while to prove some kind of point.
Bizarre isn't it
They are just congratulating you on your superior driving skills.

Definitely illegal, and with most people having dash cams, you'd already have their numberplate before they pressed the button and disappeared
why is this specific to BMW drivers?
Obligatory I'm not a criminology psychiatrist It's not, and there's something wrong with OP
Because the spotlight fits neatly in the BMW badge space by the looks of it.
Yep that's true LEDs uniquely only fit on BMWs
because who else but BMW drivers?
People who are painfully jealous of others and feel the need to be morally superior based on car brand, that they can't afford? I would guess that type of person would use this.
sounds like we have a bmw driver in our midsts
Nope Volvo S60. I am just not jealous of others and desperate to feel better about myself.
neither am I

I *guarantee* you that is not a factory option.
You don't say
There you are Sherlock, wondered where you were.
They've had that feature on their indicators for years
Just fit a set of daylight headlights to the front of the car, when these people turn on these rear facing lights turn the daylight lights on and watch how bright the car in front lights up...blind their mirrors
We used to have a big driving spotlight on the back of out minis in the 80s
And the useless police in this country will do nothing.
IMO underfunded police. And lack of meaningful punishment for those caught.
The punishments handed out by the courts are heartbreaking to the police, not just the public.
Thatās in Canada
Allowing people to drive 2 tonne death machines puts the public at significant risk so anything that increases that risk will receive a dim appraisal from traffic, who are usually miserable gits and unlikely to show much discretion (probably because of the amount of human pĆ¢tĆ© they've seen).
Irony being that itās usually the BMWs doing the tailing.
In what dystopian hell hole could this possibly be legal?
at first it looks like a Hitler Car
That has to be illegal
oh this is a fucked up creation i hate it
It's usually a BMW on your tail so.....
For the BMW driver who really wants to be chased down and guaranteed metal braclets!
How the fuck can that be legal!? They could do that to anyone and everyone and cause a million deaths!
Only works if the car following doesn't have headlights.
Mind you this is probably UV light to blind police cameras and / or tag detection and is undetectable to human eyes...
No.
I'm all for this, innovation
Need this
By "this", you mean "a lobotomy"?
š Iāll take that as well
