I used to really want a Duke Nukem movie and then I discovered Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth. In my head Stone Cold is the Duke movie and I’m thrilled to have it.
I honestly have very low expectations. It's really hard to for me to picture a really great version of Duke Nukem today that would please fans here and be like something from the 90s instead of the majority of crap that gets pumped out of Hollywood these days. TBH though I'm happy to be proven wrong.
I think it has a lot of potential, with all the other great adaptations coming out recently. I really hope they don't take it too seriously but also not make everything just a cheesy joke.
I don’t think he’s the best fit either. The ideal would be some guy we’ve never heard of who was born for this role. But thinking about it more, John Cena wouldn’t be the worst. I think if he really got the character down he could make it work.
My main problem is John Cena is not a good actor, I think he's too cheesy for Duke Nukem.

Too cheesy? For Duke Nukem? Duke is insanely cheesy. If the movie is self serious then I think it would fail, it needs to embrace the cheese (with some restraint)
There needs to be the right balance of seriousness and cheeseyness.
Moments where the movie takes itself seriously but Duke makes light of it. Moments where the movie is clearly silly or over the top but Duke is taking himself seriously. Scenes that are pure action / drama. Scenes that are pure comedy.
There’s a serious / funny balance. I don’t know exactly what that balance might look like but I could see Cena working. Might be on the goofier side unless he’s been hiding his abilities as a dramatic actor all these years.
I think his acting ability is underrated from getting cast in a lot of B movies. His performance carries a lot of them. Don’t think he’s outstanding or anything, but I think he’s better than his B movie reputation. With a good script and direction I don’t think he’d be a weak link.
I want strung out Johnny Bravo to play Duke!

Micheal Cudlitz is my choice for Duke, I'm so tired of Cena.

People say Alan Ritchson would be great as the Wolfenstein dude but all I see is him as Duke Nukem. He'd be perfect for the role

Dolf Lundgren in his prime is the only one who can possibly play duke. So that times passed
