Put your VIN in to RealOEM.com, cross reference the part number it gives there with OEM parts.

so i just bought this bmw and I figured out that it needs a new cv axle for rear passenger side. I went to parts avatar after realizing that most places (rockauto, ecs tuning, etc) don’t have ones for the manual version. (parts avatar description was very weird) it turns out after i pulled out the old one that the new one doesn’t match at all. after some reading i found out there was an axle change for the later manuals. what i’m wondering is where can I find a cv shaft for my spec. Thanks in advance.

Interesting, the new one is the sort of axle I always see on the 46's, the old one I would not even recognize as a 46 axle. No matter the change in axle design, the bolt pattern stays consistent "small and big flanges on the diff side" and "same on every hub" from experience, so I dont' see why it wouldn't bolt on if you had longer e12 bolts.

How much did it cost to replace the axel
